RyanC883 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Someone who actually knows the DL better than me: How did our rookie DLmen do in the game (tough assignment with Ravens OL, of course). 1 Quote
JerseyBills Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I'd like to know as well, Sanders flashed early but didn't notice him in 2nd half Quote
noacls17 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago To me it looked like Walker was standing straight up. 2 Quote
ChevyVanMiller Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago The only thing I know for sure was that Walker whiffed entirely on that last FG try, 2 1 Quote
Coach Tuesday Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago 2 minutes ago, ChevyVanMiller said: The only thing I know for sure was that Walker whiffed entirely on that last FG try, He did indeed and it was a BRUTAL mistake, he blocked outside instead of inside, he failed blocking 101. Hamilton had such a free and clear path that it looked like he hesitated and tried to time his jump, then somehow the ball went UNDER his arm. But Deone Walker must have known right away that he was about 1 inch away from being blamed for an EPIC almost-win-loss. 2 Quote
LABILLBACKER Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Honestly, I didn't see anything remarkable fron Sanders or Walker. Solomon got caught in the wash some. Ed was a monster. Joey had a good (not great) night. We've had games where we contained Henry. Last night wasn't one of them. 1 Quote
saundena Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Did Walker help free up Oliver to let me be more dynamic (which he was of course)? Edited 3 hours ago by saundena Quote
pi2000 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Did anybody else notice, on the winning kick, Walker was lined up at RT (or whatever that position is called on ST)... ball was snapped, he stood up and just waived at Hamilton who ran right past him and almost blocked the kick. What was he even doing out there? Why not an actual offensive lineman or TE? That almost ended up in disaster. 1 Quote
TheyCallMeAndy Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Waiting for the All-22 reviews, but my guess is run defense was very poor for both. Quote

I honestly felt like I didn’t notice any of our interior defenders (except Oliver). 1 Quote

In theory it would make it tougher to get around him to the kicker. Doesn't work if you whiff on both the inside and outside guy though!! 1 Quote
Big Turk Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Just going to need time for the D in general with so many new/young pieces in place now. More than any other D, McD's requires a very high level of technical soundness and being in your proper position to make the defense work as a whole. Players need to do their 1/11th. It's how it's always been...when players get themselves out of position or don't stay in the proper spots or try and do someone else's job, that's when the D looks a lot worse than it probably is and why the D can improve much more than one would expect over the course of the year IMO. Also, I think we have witnessed over the last few years just how important Tremaine Edmunds role was in our D...a role Bernard looked capable of filling but has kinda slacked off a little from that pace. Simon Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I thought Sanders was active and showed a little more mobility than I expected from him. I think Walker played a little less and looked quite a bit like the rookie he was. I doubt if either guy played more than a quarter of the game (maybe Sanders a bit more than Walker?) as Ed and Daquan were out there for most of it, so I wouldn't take too much from limited snaps in their first ever NFL start and against that particular team. 2 1 Quote
Warriorspikes51 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Sanders got into the backfield a few times and had a nice pressure on Lamar early didn't notice him really in the 2nd half Walker unfortunately may need time.....but we'll see It helps when Ed Oliver decides to be Aaron Donald. 1 Quote
skibum Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think they treaded water, which is a not bad outcome for two rookies in a prime time opener vs. a top-3 team. And if all they did was make things easier for Ed Oliver, then they did great. 1 1 Quote
Special K Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago That was a real test for it being your first game as a rookie. Hopefully, they will be able to get their feet under them over the next month by playing against much lesser quality teams. I know there is another thread about it, but a shout-out to Dorian Strong as well. Could he end up being another 6th round CB gem?? 1 Quote

Why he left the player (Hamilton) on the inside free to rush is boggling. Quote
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago At nfl.com, you can download a box acore for the game, that the website call the "Gamebook." For individual members of the defense, it shows tackles, assists, sacks, quarterback hits that weren't sacks, tackles for loss, passes defensed (including tipped at the line), etc. I don't know how many snaps the rookies played, but neither Sanders nor Walker even appeared in the box score. No tackles, no assists, no quarterback hits (although Lamar didn't throw much). I don't know if the rookies were on the field for any of the long Henry runs. Quote

I see them getting more reps as the season goes on, but you are right they are rookies AND playing against one of the best in the NFL. 2 Quote
