Their LG was stinking it up out there as well, and not because they hadn't gelled yet.

The Charger DT's were just beating him ugly.

Kingsley isn’t lookin any better at guard…he’s feelin like another missed chance at OL improvements for them.  I didn’t notice Simmons doing anything too bad though that pick might be solid

im still a little confused by their draft strategy but if they keep winning nobody will care haha Kingsley was def a high ceiling low floor type prospect and that’s not really the type of guy they could afford rolling the dice on in one of those tackle spots. I wonder if they wanted rosengarten and the ravens swiped him first

Bad night for the Chiefs 2024 draft. Worthy seriously hurt on a routine collision. Suamataia was terrible at LT last year and doesn't look much better at LG. Jared Wiley was a healthy scratch. Jaden Hicks got picked on all night. The coaching staff and the QB hid a lot of roster problems tonight and it still wasn't enough to overcome it all.

KC dynasty is done. It's Baltimore and Burrow to get past now.

Cinci defense is terrible.  They are one dimensional on offense.  They may have best passing game in the league, but still they have little to no run game.

It's Baltimore and the Chargers to get past. Both teams are physical and that gives Bills trouble.

No one in the AFC South is in the league of these four teams.  However if Jags or Texans suck, the other team may run away with the division and home field advantage.

Their offense wasn't dynamic. No running game and short quick passes. Tough way to run an offense. 15 is that good though. He can pretty much beat you by himself.

Hard to be dynamic with their wr1 suspended and wr2 knocked out on the 3rd play of the game. They’ll be a different team when those guys are back.

The last time they lost a season opener they won the Super Bowl. Let’s slow down here.

Those guys aren't gonna fix the defense which was the bigger problem tonight. Spags was blitzing like crazy because 4 man pressures weren't getting any kind of push. The back 7 was losing 1v1 matchups at every level of the field. LA's WR corps on the whole is below average and Herbert still managed over 300 yards and 3 TDs - a stat line he hasn't pulled off since 2023. A series of poor draft picks and some of their cornerstone defensive players aging out has left them seriously undermanned on that side of the ball.

Defense is a big red flag for me after that game….they would not have won a shootout against Baltimore or Buffalo or cincy tonight with worthy and rice back 100% healthy and unsuspended.  That’s frankly probably a blowout against a top tier opponent even with those guys.  Really we don’t even know what rice will look like when he’s back…sometimes it takes guys a year or so just to trust their knee again

Chris jones regressing from otherworldly to really good is gonna expose a lot of guys on that defense it’s seeming like. He’s been absolutely carrying that dline and masking some secondary issues

I don’t think they can afford to or actually do treat it that way at all…the 1 seed was such a massive advantage for them I don’t think they would’ve made the Super Bowl without it last year..getting to rest a week then face the injury riddled Texans while the ravens and bills beat eachother up was huge.

 this years roster seems to have a lot of the same problems if not more

I agree to some extent. Letting Justin Reid go was a big negative for their secondary and it showed tonight. But Spags’ defense usually gets better as the season progress so we’ll see if that’s true this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if they lose next week to Philly.

Yeah for sure. If that defense doesn’t get better as the season goes on they’re not going deep in the playoffs this year.

Every season the Chiefs have losses like this and everyone starts writing their epitaph.  Then they persevere. Never count them out. We could get crushed in our house Sunday night and we’ll bounce back like the Chiefs will. That said- I don’t think they’ll benefit from the calls anymore so there is that. The free ride is over. They’ll have to win without that edge.

Yeah, I'm not ready to join everyone dancing on KC's supposed grave. I love to see them lose and it'd be great if they were sub par this season but I've seen this stuff too many times. Remember when NE lost season openers and the football world would shout "the dynasty is over!" only for them to gradually improve as the season went on.

The good thing is they have a very tough opening schedule so I'll be interested to see how they do in the next few weeks. I'd love to see them get beat up and find themselves in a deep hole, then see the whole season implode on them but I just don't believe it will happen. As Mahomes once famously said "I'll see it when I believe it".

I called the Chiefs regressing during the offseason and would see their 7 year run in the AFCCG come to an end.  But that being said, it’s still just the first week, it was against a hungry and tough divisonal opponent and they were down two of their weapons.

So while the loss is great for our AFC 1 seed pursuit, come Tuesday, one of the other top contenders for the 1 seed will be tied with them at 0-1 between the Ravens or Bills.

So I wouldn’t be writing KC off just yet either.

I would even consider adding Denver to the list. Their d is going to be good and if Nix doesn't have a sophomore slump, they can be dangerous

Just watched... thoughts....

- Justin Herbert played great and I thought Greg Roman called a great game. In particular his designed plays against the Chiefs man coverage and all out blitz were excellent;

- I thought even without Rashawn Slater the Chargers line held up reasonably well. That is going to be critical to them having success this year;

- Losing Worthy early was clearly a huge blow to Kansas City. I think when all 3 are available Rice, Worthy, Brown has the potential to be the best 1-3 receivers Mahomes has had in his career. Brown - JuJu - Thornton however is a bottom of the NFL group (and I also think Pacheco is one of the weaker starting running backs, his limitations are now very obvious);

- Goes without saying Jawaan Taylor in particular had a rough night on the Chief offensive line. Hope those refs have set a standard for the season his false starts, because he has gotten away with too much for too long;

- I thought the Chiefs defense really struggled. The lacked pressure up front and McDuffie apart do not have the peices on the backend to do the match coverage stuff Spags wants to do. The only points where they look like making plays are when they are running the uber aggressive looks and as I said above by and large Roman and Herbert had the answers.

The chiefs losing a turnover free game is borderline historic…I think it’s happened like twice with mahomes as a starter and the last time was week 17 2021 against the bengals.  The ugly games people are talking about are usually the chiefs just being sloppy protecting the football and that kinda stuff you know is not gonna happen come playoff time

these games where teams just seem so much more talented them all over the field are popping up now though and they feel like something entirely different/less correctable to me.  They’re still a dangerous team of course…I wouldn’t ever suggest they’re done. But I really do think they have been at least a tier below the prime Chiefs for a year+ now  and have gotten some good fortune which has them outperforming their talent level..  most notably they always seem to be freakishly healthy come playoff time lately

I think we did this with Brady for 10+ years

We did it with the Chiefs the last two years in a row.

I will be happy with any loss on their schedule. They are not dead until they are buried and eliminated.
