WotAGuy Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Oh my! They seized cash, credit cards and laptops!! If I have to pay $9.99 for a month of Peacock, I am gonna be SO MAD. From The Athletic/NY Times: ”Streameast — the world’s largest illegal sports streaming platform — has been shut down after a year long investigation, according to a leading United States-based anti-piracy organisation. The network of 80 unauthorised domains generated 1.6 billion combined visits over the past year, providing free access to global sports fixtures, including Europe’s top football leagues and competitions, such as the Premier League and Champions League, as well as the NFL, NBA and MLB.” https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6591670/2025/09/03/streameast-worlds-largest-illegal-sports-streaming-platform-shut-down-in-sting/?source=user_shared_article The Athletic has been informed by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) — a coalition of 50 media and entertainment organisations including Amazon, Apple TV+, Netflix and Paramount — that an operation alongside Egyptian law enforcement officials took place on Sunday August 24 to disrupt Streameast’s dominant position in the illegal streaming market. Traffic to the site reached 136 million average monthly visits, with domains primarily originating from the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, the Philippines and Germany. “ACE scored a resounding victory in its fight to detect, deter, and dismantle criminal perpetrators of digital piracy: by taking down the largest illegal live sports platform anywhere,” said Charles Rivkin, chairman of ACE and chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA). “With this landmark action, we have put more points on the board for sports leagues, entertainment companies, and fans worldwide — and our global alliance will stay on the field as long as it takes to identify and target the biggest piracy rings across the globe.” Edited 2 hours ago by WotAGuy 1 Quote

Brand J Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago There are still many more, but Streameast was always a go to. Quote
GunnerBill Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I only illegally stream what I have no legal way to access. I can get the NFL legally, so I don't stream it. I can't get all college games legally. DAZN (same people who now do international gamepass) have won the college rights for this year but are only showing certain games. So I illegally streamed Ohio State - Texas as it was my only option. Then I watched Florida State - Bama on DAZN because I had the option to see legally. Quote
gonzo1105 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Even if it has been there are a ton of other ones that are very easy to find. 1 Quote

Dofu was great; only one pop up to navigate and had a nice iPhone app. Looking for a replacement. I found Streameast to be too annoying with all the ads. 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The UFC was the first one I believe to really start cracking down on this. It's a good move. 1 1 Quote

Ralonzo Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) The corporation lost eleventy jillion dollars because everyone who pirated the feed would have gladly paid for it otherwise. Hell they would have paid 10 times as much! ...and next year they will! Edited 1 hour ago by Ralonzo Quote

But the problem is that the more you segment games across so many different platforms the more demand you create for piracy because fans just want to watch the games and they find it easier to pirate than to have cable and 5 different streaming services... 2 1 Quote

How is it any different from shoplifting from Target? The NFL turned down more money from ESPN to make Sunday Ticket Cheaper and al a carte because they wanted it to remain a "luxury" product. I'm not gonna say piracy is a victimless crime but I'm also not gonna care too much about it either given that the NFL actively chooses to make it's product more expensive and less accessible. Quote

dorquemada Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago The more fragmented they make the games in terms of streaming platforms, the more illegal streams we're going to see. I can afford as many of these services as they want to throw at me, but I'm not going to buy anything outside the Season Ticket on principle. What I expect the bean counters at the NFL don't understand is that with ubiquitous cloud computing platforms that can be spun up and turned off in moments with essentially infinite capacity, it'll be as successful as the war on drugs trying to stop it 1 1 Quote

You're paying higher prices because of corporate greed, which would exist with or without piracy. 1 1 9 1 1 Quote
