Sort of curious how the Bills run their tush push this year given how it petered out against KC, and also whether there might be some variations and trick plays from it.

For example, not sure many people saw this, but New Mexico pulled off one of the best fake tush push plays I have seen on Saturday.

How is this a "Fake Tush Push"? The pusher is lined up 5 yards behind the QB.

Interesting play. But it's barely a fake QB sneak.

That was legitimately pretty.

I think one thing Brady can take from the KC game is to have wrinkles out of the sneak, or other options he can turn to. He had all off season to agonize over it, so hopefully going forward if the opposing team stops it once or twice, he’ll have something else to pull from his bag of tricks instead of stubbornly calling the same play because it had worked throughout the season.

yea, even just keeping them honest with 1-2 going the other way, and a fake or two and suddenly the defense has to defend way more than 1 square yard

Wow, that was clean ! I love when coaches find new little trick plays like this and they’re successful. I don’t see why an NFL team can’t pull this off? Rolling the ball on the ground is risky, but that’s what ultimately sells the play.

Josh always goes to the left on the tush push. Defenses prepare for it. The Bills went 0-4 for the tush push in the AFCCG.

If he could occasionally go right this season, that would be of benefit.

He's a married man now, needs to protect his assets.

Gee,

Why change anything?

If it worked all regular season but it doesn’t work against  KC we should just keep trying the same thing and hopefully it will work……🤷‍♂️

That sounds dumb as heck, doesn’t it?

Sorry OP, too good to pass up😜

I was calling for the Butcher Rolle play, repeatedly, last year. Back to, the bigger the situation , the tighter the sphincter, for this coaching staff. Therein lies the difference between us and the Chiefs. They DO do trick and gadget plays. They are relaxed and have an air of confidence when they do so. Their player who is receiving the ball actually catches it in the biggest moments ( I’m looking at you Kincaid)

All we had to do in the AFCG was go right on the sneak. We had been going left all year long: why not change it up to fake them out?

Not so much that we needed to go right on the sneak there. It's more that we needed to go right a few times earlier in the year so that we weren't completely predictable. They were able to completely commit to stopping that one gap. And we still made it on that one key play even though the refs miscalled it.

Still, I'd love to see them be a bit less predictable there, including a few nice wrinkles here and there.

I love this one, myself:

i've always wondered why teams never did that - a shotgun or long snap through the qb. or directional snap.

i was a long snapper and emergency center - it wasn't hard to snap the ball like this.

The best Tush Push team is  the Eagles. And they have used fakes at least a couple of times. KC has used a TE instead of Mahomes - it doesnt have to be Josh all the time. I mean, variations are there without scratching your head that much. And as mentioned already, don't always go to the left! Only KC stopped the Bills, but still, adding variatons would make even the normal one more successful as it's another thing for defenses to worry about.

The Eagles now have a lead sponsor for the Tush Push......"Dude Wipes!" They're flushable wipes. Never heard of them.

Great,......there's the Terrible Towel, and now Dude Wipes. I'm sure they'll be waved every time the Eagles line up for a Tush Push.

Of course that could be some good smack talk on the field. Every time Hurts runs the play, a defensive player can say, "Hey Hurts,....need a Dude Wipe?"

We need to show a few different fakes a few times this year.  Especially early. Then other teams will have to honor some other looks out of that formation.

I always loved this one:

Either go right a couple times, or run a fake and toss it to Knox, or a bootleg…

Whatever it is, put something else on tape from tush-push formation!

I'd say a triple option might work?  Give yourself an outside pitch.  Mix in a jet motion option to see how they adjust.  Left to Right jet motion, QB can hand off, or he can sneak left, or he can roll left with a pitch option.  Line someone like samuel up in the backfield as a 3rd "back" and you can go either direction.  Is something that requires a fair number of rep's vs. a QB sneak though.

Biggest gripe i have is going jumbo.  It's not as if these plays are getting blown up by players on the edge.  If they want to over load the middle with DTs, and bring their LBs to the LOS, why play into that?  They're creating space behind them and on the edges for easy alerts.

How about having a big offensive player behind him instead of a small receiver? Oh, and run the play to the right once instead of always to the left.

Or a toss sweep.  James Cook is getting one foot one on one on an island with a corner.

After the second failed attempt, go outside.

Good thing Wilkins is a Raider.
use Foxy Knoxy for more goal line gadgets.

Ty Johnson is a good weapon to have for this. He could either push Josh, run the ball, or run a little flare and catch the ball.

I have a feeling he could score a long TD on a tush push play-action pass.

Remember when we used to use trick plays to such amazing effect in our offense with Daboll? and then with the Dorsey they became somehow discredited as "gadgets" or not "real" football? Even though we have an amazing QB who can pull them off? Then Brady tried one vs the Ravens last year that almost got Josh killed because of its poor execution and we seemed to have abandoned them ever since?

agreed. I am all for a few tricks here and there, but the last guy I would have got involved in a trick play was Curtis Samuel of all people!
