McDermott appears to coach his players to give receivers a big cushion in order to not be burned deep then make the tackle. He might be right that this approach produces more wins, at least in the regular season, but it's deeply frustrating to watch. He doesn't seem to grasp, or somehow rationalizes away, that this means his pass rush is much less likely to get home. Call me old fashioned, but I'd rather see our defense completely crush their opponents while giving up the occasional big play than watch them play pitch and catch hoping they drop the ball at some point. The cushion, whether ordered by coaches or chosen by players themselves, may be to compensate for lack of athleticism.

Just watched the compressed replay

 

- Aside from the obvious plays, Walker also really impressed with the way he chased down plays past the LOS.  A lot of the time a lineman will jog after the play and not get involved in the tackle.  He was routinely hustlng after the ball and sticking his head in there

 

- Thought Buechele did a good job all things considered.  He showed an ability to improvise and extend plays which White totally lacks

 

- It was funny watching some of the fringe skill players being thrown on ST coverage - "show us what you can do" - and being totally out of their element and some obviously wanting no part of initiating contact

I have to say though that I like that he showed some fight.

 

I was not at all good with the similar Kelce/Rousseau sequence in the Divisional Round loss.

 

I may be in a small minority here but I'm lukewarm on Groot... he has a lot to prove... at least to me.

A message board comments is not reading. At no point in life have I read 30 pages of drivel on a message board and I have been on different boards for around 20 years. And if he has a wife who is knocked up and a sick toddler he probably does need some sleep. You must not be a parent?
