Random Observation thread:

So I grew up in the 90s and was in elementary school during the Super Bowl years.  Don't get me wrong the Bills were a big deal and the majority of kids were Bills fans but with that said there were also a ton of kids that were Miami Dolphins or Dallas Cowboys fans.  You would see Marino and Emmett Smith jerseys and Dolphins and Cowboys(and some 49ers back then too) Starter jackets pretty regularly at school.  If you grew up around then you know exactly what I'm talking about.  Most of them probably just wanted to p*** off their old man.

But my question is for people that have kids in that age range today is that even a thing anymore?  To be against the Bills because I feel like I don't ever see any kids in Chiefs, Ravens or Dolphins gear at all.  I'm not sure if Josh Allen is just that awesome or kids just aren't as rebellious today as they were in the 90s lol

My best friend was like that growing up. He was a Miami fan and yet never even went there once. He would go out of his way to bash the Bills to try to be different and cool. They definitely still exist, but not nearly as many since the Bills are the “cool” team to root for.

I grew up in the 70s.  Our Bills fandom wasn't as extreme as it is nowadays.  At least, not in my neighborhood.  Everyone was a Bills fan to some extent, but we all followed other teams, too.  None of the kids in my neighborhood were monogamous or fanatical.

I grew up in New England (I know!) and during the SB years, most of my classmates hated the Bills (some said they were sick of them always going to the SB), and some others were Dallas fans (I'm assuming because they were dominant at that time and being in New England, the Patriots in the early 90s were garbage).

As far as I know, I was the only kid in my school who was a Bills fan (or at least I'm the only one that ever wore anything Bills-related).

we all remember that kid from the 90s, typically a Dolphins fan, just trying to be the contrarian!

i will say that on a recent vacation, we bumped into another die hard Bills’ fan family. Every person in that family (grandparents, parents, kids, etc.) was decked out in Bills gear…. and the 8-year old son was wearing Ravens gear. So the anti-Bills kid still does exist!

I’m in the same age bracket as you and remember that well. Lots of kids in 9ers and dolphins starter jackets… everyone at that time was also randomly Charlotte Hornets fans too. Don’t have kids so can’t comment on what they’re doing today.

Daryl Johnston.   Lewiston Porter, Syracuse and the Dallas Cowboys.   Grew up in Buffalo / WNY during the 1970s as a Dolphins fan.   Turd.

I had never heard Daryl Johnston grew up as a Dolphins fan before.  That's only fitting for him lol

I’ve had friends like that, from middle school all the way up to adults. In many cases, I feel like being a contrarian to them is somehow “cool”, because well, it’s different

From my experiences I can definitely say that some of those kids who were into the Dolphins or Cowboys when we were young ended up switching allegiances to the Bills by the end of High School or at least by College.  But then there's some of them that are still Cowboys fans to this day.  I had alot of of fun with the ones I still keep in touch with on Thanksgiving 2019 😂

My kids grew up here in Virginia during the latter half of the drought years.

They had Stevie Johnson, EJ Manuel, Sammy Watkins, and Shady McCoy gear.  They watched Fitz and Kyle Orton.  My oldest saw the Gailey teams.

They are just as huge Bills fans as anyone around today.

I consider it the greatest achievement of my fatherhood lol.

Got lucky that they hit that sweet spot of fandom - ages 10-12 when Allen was drafted.

But they were already hooked.

In NOVA the Commanders fans have grown quite bitter at so many fans of other teams here.  That coincided when they were mostly bad.  But those fans are back on the bandwagon now.

But there were no expat Dolphin or Cowboy fans in Buffalo in the 90s.  Those folks were just front runners.

Yeah I remember all of that Charlotte Hornets teal back then too lol.  I think that fad was all over the Country.  I look at that one a little differently because we didn't have an NBA team in Buffalo.  I was actually a diehard Chicago Bulls fan then so I was guilty of being a front runner myself haha.  But those were fun times to be an NBA fan

I was the only Bills kid in my middle and high school. From 1988 on I wore our attire most of the week and would tell everyone that the Bills were going to the Super Bowl every year. I got made fun of a lot. Most kids where I lived wore Charlotte hornets, Dallas cowboys, Chicago bulls, and La raiders gear.

In New Jersey back in the early 90's I remember all the older kids in grade school had Raiders jackets.  Sort of like Grandmaster B LOL.  I actually thought it was like a pre requisite to being a safety patrol in school.

Yeah 49ers and Cowboys jackets were common.  Perhaps because the Giants and Jets weren't that good most of the 90s because their jackets actually weren't like popular.  Even being in this area.  Bills jokes about losing Super Bowls were always around but I never sensed any actual hatred toward them.

Starter jackets were back in the day actually pretty common in general.....  I will never forget this one Puerto Rican girl I used to go to school with.  For years she had a Washington Redskins starter jacket but honestly I'm pretty sure cared less about the team.

Remember these guys?  It was the style!!!
