Preseason record in Kelly/Super Bowl era:

Ā

1988: 1-3

1989: 1-4

1990: 0-4 (best chance to win it all)

1991: 2-3

1992: 2-2

1993: 2-3

Ā

Totals: 8 wins, 19 losses.

Regular season record over those 6 years: 70-26

Ā

And the starters played a lot more back then than they do now.Ā

Ā

I vaguely remember talk that Gale Gilbert was looking better than Jim Kelly one year (Art Wander comment?).Ā

Ā

In the Super Bowl years they didn't run no huddle in preseason. As McDermott said in presser, on a scale of 1-10, how much game planning did they do? 0-1.Ā

Ā

Amazing reaction over the weekend.Ā

The best thing about preseason is it identifies the people whose posts you can confidently skip during the season if they are coming up with hot take conclusions off the first preseason game. Ā Ā

Did something major happen that I missed? This hysteria thread seems...hysterical....even for here.

Ā

The Bills 4th string scrubs couldn't hold the lead against the Giants 4th string scrubs and the Bills lost a very important preseason game. I am outraged by this.Ā

I screamed for years to get rid of Frazier for that rush 4 only crap.....only to see it remain. Welp they brought in some fresh D minds, so we'll see.

I would submit if problems persist, half the board will be using pitchfork and torch emojis. Drafting what looks to be an oft hurt Erkel with the 1st pick may not help matters.

It doesn’t matter who the DC is. Ā It is McDermott’s D and it can only get you so far.

Great take lol.Ā  Ā Go look at last year's preseason games, and the defensive turd the team fielded all season and tell me what's different?Ā  Ā lol

Ā

Kinda was a predictor of what actually happened all year.Ā  Ā lol

Ā

I do love the zealotry against logic and the deductive process.

Let me go and take out a 2nd mortgage and bet the futures on those prolific preseason offences of the Jets, Patriots and Browns, or do we get to pick and choose which performances are legitimate indicators of future performance.

Ā

Ā We’ll just have to disagree on this one, stay healthy and let the rookies and 2nd year players get experience in meaningless football, that’s all these practices are for me.

I think many of us would say that coincidence is not the same as correlation.Ā Ā

This.Ā Ā

Sure, there are times when the preseason ends up looking a lot like the regular season.Ā  How could there not be?Ā  Random, dumb luck would say it is bound to happen, but there are too many examples of how it doesn't.Ā  Preseason is just not a good predictor.Ā  This is not a zealotry against deductive process.Ā  Just the opposite - it is bad deduction to come to a conclusion based on something that often doesn't correlate.

So part of me is like... Really... we are having this discussion over a pre season game...Ā  cmon man... there is another part of me that had hoped that I would see some semblence of difference in the Defense... not a huge fan of Babich, I am not gonna lie... and I didnt, I saw the same old get run over, give up 3rd and long soft coverage no pass rush defense we had last year... does it mean anything... not necessarily, but that doesnt mean I wasnt looking for a WOW these guys are on to something... so no, no jumping off of bridges... but patiently waiting to see if anything has changed or we are gonna throw out the sameĀ  slowly bleeding out crush your soul, thank God we have Josh defense Babich/Mc D ran off last year.Ā  Time will tell...Ā

Luv ya Drac, but I'm gonna be pedantic: this is a very Clinton-esque question, so I don't know how to reply.

Ā

(Meanwhile, we need more vids of you on bass. Love the pinky hammer-ons and pull offs, which are freaking hard to do...for us amateurs)

But after the 1st preseason game, should we trade Josh for 2112 1st round picks?Ā

Ā

Recall in the SB era, early 90's the Bills went 0-5 in preseason (yes 5 pre-0season games back then, 6 if your team played in College All Star game)) and they went back tot the SB again!

I don't think we ever won a pre season game during the Marv Levy era...Ā  If we did, it was extremely rare.

Ā

We are dooooomed.Ā  lol

I've learned that Dane Jackson didn't get any better and Dion only plays well in pre-season when Josh is in.Ā

Yeah, but we usually played the starters for a few series and looked good.

It was an entertaining game if nothing else.Ā  Both Trubisky and White played reasonably well.Ā  Back up WR's particularly Shavers Wilkerson Cain and Hamler all have some juice to their game.Ā  Our O line will make a lot of RB's look good.Ā  Except for maybe Ray Davis.Ā  Guy just looks stuck in mud.Ā  Maybe a 1-2-3 punch of Ty Johnson, Frank Gore Jr and Darynton Evans.Ā  And Davis & Davis can handle our kicking duties if Bass can't get healthy.Ā  LOL

Ā

As for the defense.Ā  We have some dam good LB's.Ā  And #35 who we just signed was flying around like a nut.Ā  Do not get rid of him.Ā  The problem is the D line.Ā  They get absolutely no pass rush.Ā  Doesn't matter who they put in, nothing!!Ā  Landon Jackson looked awful.Ā  No one was getting near the QB.Ā  What is it about our D Ends.Ā  They make nothing happen.Ā  Maybe we will be stouter against the run.Ā  But the pass rush was non existent.Ā  1's 2's 3's.Ā  Noone did anything.Ā  As for the secondary.Ā  Benford is a stud.Ā  But we need Hairston back.Ā  Trey White starting scares me.Ā  Great guy.Ā  But looks super slow.Ā  Hancock looks to have the most talent we have had at safety since Hyde and Poyer were in their prime.Ā Ā

Ā

Anyone have any idea what is the problem w the D line especially the pass rush?Ā  Scheme, lack of talent, coaching?
