When Landon's first move on the pass rush fails, he just stands there... after Walker and Sanders exited, the QB had all day and Jackson got stoned by the 2s and 3s

Jackson has a lot to learn for sure. He looked like a deer in headlights.

Haven’t watched yet but if this is the narrative when the season starts maybe it’s time to rethink how we invest the majority of our draft capital and prioritize free agents 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've only read on here and listened to the game. Is it safe to say Oline is an arrow down. It's so hard because I'm sure these guys are being told to play smart and just don't get hurt. There's no planning in place and I'm not sure anyone really wants to play these game to begin with.

This take does not make me happy.  So the emphasis on improving the DL have been judged moot and  "never" great. I don't want to buy that take at such an early juncture. I think it's overly pessimistic.

I'm not saying they are perfect by any means.  jmho give it another quarter or 12 and then we can talk further. m

I'm not jumping to a conclusion based off a preseason game though, I'm seeing it as a continuation of the past few years.

They don't get a lot of sacks, they struggle against the run, 3rd & 15 may as well be an automatic 1st down, they give up big plays, are often injured, and competent offenses seem to chew them up. A few years ago we had a top 3 scoring D in the regular season multiple times, but then they fell apart in the playoffs, even with much better talent than we have now.

So sure, they may manage to be a top 10 unit in the league during the regular season, and even their sack/turnover numbers might look decent. Just saying I'm not expecting too much. We've seen what McDermott wants to do for years now. The best thing I can say about him is he's able to coach up late round players, and his scheme covers for a lot of individual flaws (or at least it did when Leslie Frazier was still here).

But I don't think our D is going to ever have a playoff game where they hold down Mahomes all day like the 2023 Ravens AFCCG or the Eagles in the SB this year or even the 2nd half/OT of the 2021 AFCCG with the Bengals.

Well the problem of getting off the field on 3rd down would clear up with some pressure.  Look, I know it's preseason.  I don't expect stunts, overloads, or DBs blitzing off the edge.  But the Giants dropped back 51 (!) times, you would think that just once one of our guys could beat his man clean.

Just seems like McDermott prefers his pass rushers to be conservative and always stay in their lane.  Sometimes you gotta turn guys loose especially on 3rd down.  Phillips was one of the few guys McDermott gave a longer leash to just get after the QB.

There we were a few clean pass rush wins, the passes on those plays unfortunately just got off too quickly for the wins to matter. Here's 3 quick individual wins from Sanders and Walker:

Bosa had a couple early on as well.

My concern has been and continues to be coverage. Pass rush wins don't matter if the QB finds an open man within 2 seconds.

Biggest concern this year is still 3rd down defence.

Babich has the horses now as Beane invested heavily in the draft- But can he get it done?

If it were up to me he should have be been fired after last season, but I think his seat is going to be warm with an experienced coordinator in Nielsen behind him

That's weird. I could very well be wrong but I've always felt that the Bills edge players weren't coached to contain the pocket well enough.

I understand the need to establish the speed rush so you can counter with power but it always seemed to me that Epenesa and Von were too often losing outside containment. I would rather emphasize containment because you can make the QB uncomfortable and antsy and try to stay in his passing and seeing lanes.

But at the same time I would like to see the Bills get a bit more creative and aggressive in their pass rush. It seems like their rush schemes have been a bit too simplistic... like an offense that doesn't run enough motion.

An over reliance on rookies and PED suspended free agents aren't the horses you need to make a Super Bowl

HAMLER!! Up

I know it was just one play, but just like last year, he brings an element to our offense that nobody else we have at WR can offer.

He's a home run hitter and deep ball target.

We saw what having a home run threat brought to the table last year with James Cook; it was something we never had prior to James Cook.

The more speed you put on the field at the same time, the tougher it is to defend; the more defenses will have to account for it when he is out there, even if that might be a relatively low # of snaps per game.

This kid was always a solid player when healthy and given an opportunity to play.  The problem is he was hurt often in Denver and stuck on the PS last year with us.

Idk... obviously with Shavers breaking out and having an impressive off-season, Hamler will most likely be on the outside looking in (again). It's too bad though.

His decision making in the return game (his only longshot path) was bad.

Arrow Up:

Chase Lundt- Thought he looked really solid in pass protection especially

Jordan Hancock: Hancock looked like a guy who could contribute this year. Picked called back and was around the ball making plays in the run game

Tyrell Shavers: Making a run at the 53 man roster. Caught the long bomb and got good separation on the slant. Throw in his STs play and he’s got a good shot to make it

Deone Walker: Wasn't a huge fan of the pick but I’ll admit today he looked agile and made some plays

Arrow Down:

Tre White: Love Tre but he was rough today. No gameplan but he got toasted on the quick stuff today. Could just be a case of off coverage

Mike White: I thought he was highly inaccurate today and Trubisky separated himself in the backup race.

Jacob Bayer: Game in the balance, and you snap the ball 10 yards over the QBs head

Eddie Ulofoshio: He’s in year 2 and he still looked completely lost out there. Might make the team but Special teams only

Yeah, I watched the game. I seen the Sanders and Walker wins. This wasn't Tom Brady getting the ball out sub-2.0 lol

It was Jaxson Dart, Tommy DeVito, and Jameis Winston for most of the game.

Again, if Dart, DeVito, and Winston drop back 44 times and you can't sack them there's a problem.
