I understand what you're saying and respect your opinion, but...

Curtis Samuel had 253 yards and 1 TD in the regular season last year. Yes, you can argue that that was because of health, but the best ability is availability.

He had games of 9 yards and 4 yards receiving in the playoffs (and yes, a good game against Denver).

He has posted more than 600 yards receiving ONCE, and it was in 2020.

I think his name and the IDEA of what he "could" do is more enticing to people than what his actual production -- both as a Bill and in the years preceding it -- have shown. I agree that game production should mean more than camp production, but currently, Shavers is showing major camp production while Samuel is once again on the sidelines with an injury. What if Shavers shows out in the preseason and Samuel is sidelined?

Ultimately, it's likely a moot point, because Samuel's dead cap number this year would be large if cut, and his contract is structured for 2026 to be the more likely "out". He'll most likely be making the roster.

yep

and just IR him , as mentioned above in better detail.

then we can keep him

Bad contract on hope.

No real quality depth after the starters…And if we’re being honest Rapp is a big drop off to what we had in Hyde or Poyer in their heyday. And so far Bishop seems like a reach as a 2nd round pick when there was a chance at double dipping with guys like AD Mitchell at WR.

Hamlin is a capable safety if you gotta plug him in for a few games and they signed Forest from the Commannders who has a decent amount of starting experience and is a very good athlete. They even threw a mid round pick there. The depth at safety isn’t bad overall.

I expect will be pleased no matter . Injuries are part of it and heck yes Depth makes plenty of difference over a season and into playoffs.

But this almost helps me feel vindicated in my thinking for winning this season

D Line

If you can get real pressures early and often and when designed ? The back six or seven will shine in this defense. Even Cam and Hamlin !!!

Its not outstanding either. Definitely could improve and depth should always.

Preseason games and watching/ keeping an eye on the secondary might be worthwhile this year

Is Shavers really better than Wilkerson or Dion Cain for that matter?  Lets see what all these guys can do in the preseason.  And what about KJ Hamler?  He has been here for a bit now.

My observations from past pre seasons is that our backup QBs have been so underwhelming that none of these fringe WRs have had a decent shot to showcase their skills !!!

Im for it, if we can swing what they want and an extension for him.

Age (30) doesn't concern you, given the top-of-the-WR-market extension McLaurin is seeking with I'm guessing at least 3-4 years additional term?

Imagine instead if a short-term extension was somehow on the table...bring him in for two big prolific SB run seasons with Josh Allen slinging it at the absolute peak of his powers...

Safety is a major concern to me as thus far Bishop and Rapp are both injury prone.

Have you tried a Ring system, or maybe ADT?

Calling Bishop injury prone is premature IMO. He missed all of 4 games in college, and one last year. It’s unfortunate they’ve happened in camp two years in a row but let’s wait and see how he makes it into the year before making these claims

And that pitch count you speak of is where you try someone else…,

Gotcha. As mentioned I like shavers and would be happy with him on the roster. Would be happy with him in for Samuel’s every third game to keep him fresh. But yeah give me Samuel’s over Shavers in an elimination game.  Thanks for chatting on the topic.

Well that's what Mitch has done for his entire career. Time for him to just go away ...

Went to camp practice yesterday and just got home today. A few thoughts and points:

The Bills run an AWESOME camp experience. From the school bus shuttles to the people who greeted us - it was an amazing, fun morning for my son and I.

Pittsford NY is a Beautiful town and general area! Gorgeous houses, big tall trees. We loved the "vibe" of Pittsford and SJF included.

Went and checked out the players cars at the dorm. Holy cow .... some sweet hardware in that parking lot!

$5 for a gatorade. ugh

The team looked sharp and in-tune, as much as they can in shorts. Spencer Brown is one huge dude.

A LOT of work with the TE group. Things to come?

No James Cook.

Saw a dude wearing a full on 3-piece Bills suit. funny.

Go Bills. We loved the final practice.

Also the janitors after having to sweep up all those smelling salts ampules...

Let's play hangman with the category, "opening day starter at safety:

D A _  A _      _ A _ _ _ N

I believe a hamstring.

Good thing he doesn't actually have to write for a living.

I'd bet even Keon could beat him in a footrace.

I know the capologists here say it can't  happen but I just wouldn't be surprised if Samuel was Spector'd.

Great point.  Will it get better starting tomorrow with Mitch Trubisky?  Doubtful.  But maybe he will let just let it rip...

Never understood why QB's in the NFL are afraid to just let it rip all over the field, instead of playing safe dink and dunk nonsense.

I wish I could agree with this sentiment, but I don't. Beyond Rapp, I don't know how someone wouldn't classify this unit as thin.

Taylor Rapp-- solid to very good starter

Damar Hamlin-- average (at best) starter

Cole Bishop-- fingers crossed

Darrick Forrest-- below average starter with a long injury history

Cam Lewis-- solid backup with versatility

Jordan Hancock-- fifth-round rookie

Te'Cory Couch-- practice squad hopeful

Wande Evans-- practice squad hopeful

Most teams don't have an average or even below average starter coming off the bench at safety let alone two guys who qualify as that both with a decent amount of starting experience. So while I do think the front line quality hinges a lot on Bishop who you hope can at least in year two be a better than average safety while you have two solid depth guys behind him if needed.
