The game at Houston I'm pretty sure Allen had a concussion near the end of the game and used them (or at least was offered them).  Explains throwing it three times from the goal line.  Are their smelling peppers?

Big day for all the players waiting for smelling pepper.

it will give you a jolt and the only side effect is sneezing.

I'm not forgetting, I don't think that is the reason for banning it. No justified reason exists for its use. It shouldn't be used for concussions and it shouldn't be used as a stimulant.

Correct, it can mask the effects of concussions, this is my guess why they are banned.

I see Josh Allen snorting those things almost every time he comes on the field.

This was my first thought too. Josh seems to have a number of quirks to get game ready and stay locked in.

He’ll probably be fine … but … nevermind, he’ll be fine.

Yes, they were banned from boxing for just that reason.

Part of how they're believed to work is that breathing in the irritant triggers an increase in depth of breathing and breathing rate, leading to increased oxygenation and a "rush" of alertness.

In theory, it's possible to learn to consciously do deep but rapid breathing, if that's indeed the pathway.  There may be more to it, like a release of adrenaline in response to the noxious stimulus

It’s also bad for can damage nasal passages, lungs and other organs. Also can mask concussion symptoms. It is 13th century medicine.

I think the absolute best outcome for the NFL in the coming years is we get back to 1880's-1930's football.  It's either that or flag.

I can't wait!!

Not performance enhancing and legal in many states. Plus, the owners used it as a bargaining chip to gain concessions of their own.

No more than listening to your favorite hype song really. Like I said, I've used them a ton. Recently too.

Sorry, but playing your favorite song doesn't wake you up when knocked out...smelling salts tend to.  Do I agree with banning them, not really.  But comparing to listening to a song doesn't compare.

You just gotta crank it up man!

After reading about the possibility of teams/players using them to mask concussions, I get the ban.
