We had all this cap money but no one to spend it on. When his contract was up, so was his cap hit. We lost Jason Peters because we paid Dockery and Langston Walker for huge contracts but wouldn't pay Peters what he deserved. If we signed Peters to the higher contract instead of either of Dockery, that would have been much better use of $. We also signed another O lineman the same time as those two, can't remember who it was and his contract wasn't as bad as the other two. This article is 5 years old, so doesn't include Miller, but Sal Maiorana wrote an article in the Rochester D&C about the ten worst free agent signings by the Bills over the first 27 years of free agency. Dockery and Walker are both on this list.https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/football/nfl/bills/2020/03/15/buffalo-bills-10-biggest-free-agent-busts-charles-clay-vontae-davis-derrick-dockery-langston-walker/5043781002/ 2 Quote

Von got to cherry pick his snaps and ONLY played on obvious passing downs. Coming in fresh with easy pass rushing opportunities he really should've produced more than he did. As I said, it's more of an indictment on Epenesa. In 600+ snaps he had 6 sack and 9 QB pressures. Not what you'd want from a guy you drafted in the 2nd round in his 5th year in the league. Whiffs like this, Boogie Basham, etc are a big part of the reason they continue to churn through players on the DL. Hope they got it right this year. 1 Quote

The domestic violence suspension, underperforming the contract, saying he’d be back in a week then staying out the year… I think he redeemed himself a bit by agreeing to the incentive laden contract last year (which was likely to try to game the system around his suspension)… but I think he’s my #1 most hated. Willis McGahee is a close #2 with the trash talking of Buffalo women on his way out. What an awful regime to draft him in the 1st when we already had Travis Henry and he had just completely torn his ACL. Not even close to the most hated. like zero. 1 Quote

Top 15 in pass rush win rate last year and collected six sacks, despite missing four games. He's still got some juice. I'm worried he will have a better season with Washington then Bosa with the Bills. 1 Quote

If Von has 12 sacks, it doesn’t hurt me at all. I don’t see it, but I won’t care (unless any come against the Bills in a certain playoff game). My advice would be not to go looking for things to worry about, but that’s just me. 2 1 Quote

Playing injury roulette makes that a possibility but Von, post-injury, was never the force Bosa looked in the Playoffs just a few months ago when he was finally somewhat healthy. 1 Quote

Von had one more sack than Bosa last year in one less game played. Bosa hasn't had more than 10 sacks since 2021, and hasn't had more than 11 since 2019. Yes, health has been a big factor, but...well...it can't just be discounted. The best ability is availability. Not sure what Von's asking price is/was, but if he signed for significantly less than what Bosa did, then it's fair to ask if the Bills made a smart move going from Miller to Bosa. It's more of an indictment of Epenesa. The difference is Von was getting snaps in prime opportunities at the expense of Epenesa. AJ was playing on obvious rushing downs where Von wasn't. Quote

IIRC, they signed him as a tackle and decided to move him to center, which meant that he had one of the higher contracts for centers in the league. Sorry - I'm just too lazy to look it all up, so I apologize if I'm full of sh!t. Not meaning to hijack the thread. Man, those were some BAD lines back then. (*shudders*). Quote
BullBuchanan Posted July 17 Posted July 17 18 minutes ago, transient said: Do you think they would have been doing that if they thought they could get more pass rush production from AJ? Yes, because they had a bizarre fixation on trying to make the Miller situation work despite it being clear it wasn't. McDermott also maintains an unbreakable stance that he MUST constantly rotate his defensive line regardless of game situation and if the talent dropoff is massive, like it has been for years. I don't know if you remember, but more thana few people were upset about AJ being spelled for Miller in critical situations, and Miller predictably went on to lumber 10 yards out of the play. Quote
