JP51 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I am just gonna put it out there... thats a lot of money to commit to a player that honestly is all world talented but really seems to be a bit of a physical and mentally injured problem... obviously the Jets feel different. I am feeling like he is turning into a bit of a head case... that will likely get worse if the Jets dont get better. 1 Quote
Gregg Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago No surprise here. They locked up two key players going forward that they can build around. 1 1 Quote
Doc Brown Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Christian Benford - $17.5m per year. Sauce Gardner - $30.1m per year. I like the Benford value more. 10 12 1 Quote

Not a bad plan if they find the right QB, but the last time the Jets drafted the right QB was 2000 when they drafted Chad Pennington, and even then it was the same year NE drafted Tom Brady 5 rounds later. 1 3 Quote

Royale with Cheese Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago A contract based off of his rookie season. 2 Quote
mushypeaches Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago This move and yesterday's move puts them squarely in Dick Jauron territory for the next few years Just good enough for a few wins against the real bottom feeders, but no QB - and thus, a very low ceiling Plus, maxing out against the cap just to chase mediocrity It's wonderful being in a division with the Jets and Dolphins having similar roster-building philosophies The Pats deserve at least 12 more years of mediocrity too 1 Quote

This is the advantage of the McD scheme that everyone hates so much. You don’t need the Uber Expensive lockdown cover CB’s, so you can afford the rest of the team. EDIT: To be fair, those overly soft cushions kill me too. Edited 7 hours ago by Augie 2 1 Quote

Logic Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Am I crazy to think he's overrated? Am I also crazy to think he has an invisibility cloak that allows him to CONSTANTLY get away with committing holding and DPI penalties without the refs noticing? Is it because he has a cool nickname? If he was called Frank Smith, would he still get the accolades and the bag he just got? Whatever. Wake me when Woody Johnson is gone or they have a quarterback. 2 1 Quote
JohnNord Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I didn’t watch every snap or even every Jets game but I came away thinking that Gardiner was a player whose reputation was better than what I saw on the field. He didn’t exactly blow me away in year 3 1 1 Quote

He is holding wide receivers all the time! And when the refs start calling that his effectiveness goes way down 2 Quote

The Bills drafted an elite CB in the first round and paid him elite CB money. They have spent 2 first round picks on CBs in the last 4 drafts to replace him. McD is very good at scheming up/hiding CB2’s. I think they really like uber expensive CBs if they are elite. Quote

The Jets in recent drafts have been building the OL. Their DL is decent as well. They don't have a QB as Fields is on his 3rd team already. I guess the plan is to get one in the draft next year. 1 Quote

These guys are already on the team and they don’t want them demanding trades when they draft a rookie QB high and start a rebuild. Theres nothing stopping the Jets from drafting a QB and then loading up on the lines next year now. They have an offensive and defensive cornerstone locked up for the foreseeable future. I think Sauce is supremely overrated and I thought he quit on the team last year. He’s still very good. Letting Wilson and or Sauce walk and then drafting their replacements high in the next year or two feels very drought Billsy. This is not ideal for the Bills imo. Quote

I’m talking about 2nd contracts, not draft status. I think they use a different scheme and don’t need a guy who commands $30mil+. As evidence I present the signing of Benford as our #1 CB at about half the price of Gardner. Sure, everyone would LOVE a lockdown CB, but I think they are happy with the approach they have shown us.
