Wow! One century year old coming up in a few weeks!

Say what you want, but the guy captained the Bills ship during the best stretch of our existence.

Any Marvism’s or favorite memories you have of the guy?

OF COURSE….”WHERE WOULD YOU RATHER BE THAN RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW???!!!”

I used to watch Willard Scott announce all the folks who turned 100 in my morning routine before work. I’m having breakfast and reading the sports section and he announces a name of a guy from Hilton Head, my home at the time. That got my attention, then I noticed the same guy in the obituary section at the end of the sports. So close!

Hang in there Marv!

I was fortunate enough, in another lifetime, to spend quite a bit of time with Marv. Probably spent 20+ hours, just he and I. He is such an interesting and smart guy. Marv is so wise and was always giving life advice. I was in my early to mid 20’s. A couple of things stand out to me:

- First, he asked me if I ever saw the Borat movie (this was right after it came out). I told him that I had. He and his wife had just gone the night prior and he said “it was a little crude for my tastes. I was quite uncomfortable when he was running around in that bikini contraption.” 🤣🤣

- Second, he said that he’s met 375,000 people that swear they were at the Comeback Game and stayed the whole time.

- Third, he told a story about a guy (and I think he’s told this before) that he ran into one day and said, “remember me.” Marv gave him a puzzled look and the guy said, “a couple of years ago you were going down an escalator in O’Hare and I was going up. I yelled Go Bills to you.” 🤣🤣

- The last one that sticks out is when I asked him who the greatest player he ever saw was. He said, “Gale Sayers” without ANY hesitation. I said, “do you want to think about that?” He said, “No, it’s Gayle Sayers.” I asked him, “what about Bruce?” He said, “he was a damn good football player but Sayers is the best.” (Keep in mind this is probably 20 years ago so Brady was early into his career).

Anyways, HBD Marv!!

I desperately want to see him Tuesday 2/10/26 at the end of the parade, when they start to make the speeches.

And he gets to go before anyone, even Terry Pegula

Millions of people, Bills fans, and non-fans alike will shed celebratory tears when he delivers the famous line

Oh my - I teared up just thinking about that.

He was both the reason the Bills went to 4 straight and the reason they lost 4 straight. Very mixed emotions about him.

Guy is 99 and gave his all to that team, even if his all wasn't enough. Let it go. Allow the emotions you feel toward him to be positive.

I looked Marv up in the phone book in the 90's and called his house. Fran answered the phone and I asked to speak to Marv. She handed him the phone and I explained that I was a fan calling to see if he actually answered. I was an absolute idiot at this age. Regardless, Marv laughed, took it in stride and answered several questions of mine. He was very nice, jovial, and just all around a cool person to talk to. After 5 or 6 minutes he said they were walking out the door (this was before cell-phones) and that he enjoyed talking to me.

I would obviously never do this now, but it just goes to show how great of a person Marv is. I mean, If *I* got that call, I would have hung up.

Pretty amazing person! Some people forget that Marv Levy enlisted in the armed forces during WWII, and always knew how to put things into perspective.....like when he said to a reporter, "World War II was a must-win" .....  My Grandpa also served in WWII, and I never got a chance to meet him since he died before I was born. My Dad thankfully was able to share with me stories about him. That era was a different breed for sure....Always have had my utmost respect!

Don't know how many saw the article, but apparently on Friday night August 1st at Canton as part of HOF weekend, Marv will be there for a birthday celebration as the oldest live HOF member.  Apparently he has to leave right afterwards to be back home for a contractual autograph session on Saturday that he wasn't able to get out. of.  Think I read Chris Berman is introducing him.
