Keep in mind, he's missed all of TC. He likely won't be an improvement over White.

Our defense seems to require so much experience in it before you can be trusted it drives me nuts. It sacrifices athleticism and talent so a trusted veteran is in there.

No, Strong was getting more and more PT. I think we were close to him taking over as the full time CB soon. Strong/White going 50/50 is fine. White going 100 is not.

Max has barely touched grass as a Pro, it isn't realistic to expect him to be ready for a while even after he's cleared. He's likely going to split the snaps 25/75 when he returns. Just my guess.

I see comments like this all the time, and then they play a kid that's not ready. Then Max is a bust, I'm a better CB, anyone in the FA pool is better, ect.

Strong going down killed us, not much we can do with White right now.

Not saying to play Hairston but it does suck that we seem to have this same issue with DBs every year and some still call McD a DB whisperer. But you're right we're stuck in it right now. I just don't expect it to get better. I had hope when our defense sucked but our offense was humming. Things are just a little too hard for the Bills these last few week (aside from the jets).

I am not advocating to start him right off of IR.  My point is to work him in so he can get the needed reps to not be a bust.  Sitting on the bench when healthy isnt going to make him better either.

i think we need more talent on the field. I get Hairston has missed time due to injury, but teams have First Round CBs start all the time. Once he's healthy and practicing for a couple weeks, he shouldn't be time sharing for long with Tre White. If he is , then there is something wrong with either drafting the guy or the system is not working for guys to come in and play soon enough.

Hopefully he's been hitting the playbook hard to keep the mental side of the game up.

Even if he splits with Tre 50/50, that is ok. You just don't want Tre playing 100% snaps anymore.

It is possible that we have Hairston, Strong and Hancock all playing parts at some point, and we need it.

It’s crazy that it takes our guys so long to learn it because all the other offenses know it front to back immediately

Something tells me we only ever see Hancock if Taron is unavailable. Even then, unlikely. Cam Lewis slides into there more often than not.

I don't like being in a position where all our hopes on defense rest on a rookie CB making his first start late in the season. Even if he turns out to be a decent player, that's a lot to expect from him. It was obviously a need for us to draft him but Beane should have done more to bring in a starting CB and not an injury prone vet who is on his last legs.

PFF top rated cornerback this week is Will Johnson from Arizona, 2025 draft class 2nd round 47th pick.

On the board when we drafted Hairston, actually ranked higher but slipped due to injury concerns. Also Douglas grading out in the top 10.  Makes you wonder about our scheme as well as our talent.

Gonna have disagree with you, His speed alone will be an improvement over Tre, and I have the upmost respect for Tre,

… what is it folk think he has been doing since being injured??? He spends his time rehabbing and studying the play book and watching film, Max is likely very comfortable with the CB responsibilities in this defense, the guy isn’t an idi ot,  the ole “ catch 22” thing? Can’t play because he hasn’t played yet…, come on now,

Sick of hearing how complex our defense is.  Why if so complex, are they so very mediocre every season?

Maybe McD and his boy toy Babich need to think about using the KISS principle when coming up with a defensive game plan.

A trusted veteran with limited skills. It's infuriating. If/when Hairston is healthy, I don't see how he can be worse than Tre at this point, regardless of experience or knowledge of the system.

YES. Simplify the defense and prioritize athleticism.  Get some speed and quick twitch on the field.

This is the same thing people said about Rex's defenses. He needed an all pro LB and S to run it. When it worked it was great, but as soon as those guys were gone it fell apart.

Bills have never truly had an elite LB. Milano has been a very good player but nowhere near the level of a guy like Ray Lewis, who was like a DC on the field who also had elite athleticism. That said, few are, which is why Rex is working at ESPN instead of coaching.

He didn't forget defense, it's just his schemes are way too complicated for young players to grasp and all world LBers and S are very hard to come by, let alone at the same time on the same D.

Imagine Poyer, Hyde and White all in their primes but paired with a top 3 NFL MLB who could teach McDermott his own scheme he knows it so well and has the intensity of a madman on the field.

Another CB that was likely in consideration at our pick - Trey Amos - was all the talk of Commanders camp. Supposedly was looking like a star. I think he got banged up too, but I don’t know how he has fared. We need Max to desperately upgrade the secondary.

This is bull####! When McD came here had to play young guys because they were in a rebuild. A lot of those guys became a big part of this team. Now he puts to much emphasis on the playbook and plays aging guys who are more familiar. It slows down the development process of our young guys and a big reason we don’t get much out of them.
