I think there are also some folks (read: me) who don't necessarily want it banned, don't care that it's unstoppable but still don't like it because it's just boring and predictable.

3rd/short used to be an interesting down; now I look at it as a chance to change the channel or go to the fridge.

A league that emphasizes revenue over all else might be wise to consider that side effect.

Yeah, it's boring though because it always succeeds. That's why you can go to the fridge.

I don't disagree; just trying to differentiate between folks who consider it an unfair advantage vs folks who find it tedious.

Sports require tension to be interesting and the NFL is on a torrid run of doing things that remove tension from the game.

well. our Bills use that play with success. so I'm not going to have a problem with the NFL ruling to keep it.

is it cheating?  No. I don't think  so.

just my opinion. so Im not mad it stays.

"Cheating" isnt up for debate really, both teams play by it.  Now theres the 'is it a football play' question... equally ridiculous question IMO.  Its the most 'football' play of all time!  I get rugby has a similar thing,  but two sports can share a once in a while overlap.

Hockey is indoor soccer with a stick.  Basketball is hockey with a floating net lol its all based off the same crap really

What’s the problem with this play? I see nothing wrong with it.

There are a ton of problems:

1.  Extremely hard to officiate/mark the ball.  See Bills KC.  Officials just generally mark first down for most except unlucky few.

2.  Boring, ugly play.  Looks like a scrum in rugby

3.  Puts QB at risk.  Tons of things could happen.  And officials take blind eye to some (see Josh having people take a swing at him)

4.  Unfair to Defenses.  When the defense like in the one game was sending players over the top, the officials actually said one more and they would award a TD - ridiculous.

5.  What's next, instead of pushing forward the player they shoot a smaller player skyward - throw him over the pile for a first down?

I'm glad it didn't get banned.

That'd be like the Bills pushing to have the forward pass banned because Brady spanked them for 20 plus years straight with it...

lol thats a terrible comparison.  sheesh.  now if u had said something along the lines of those bullsh-t rub routes the Patriots used to run on everybody play after play after play,  then yeah,  id agree.

Officiating the play needs to stop the o-linemen from lining up in the neutral zone and stop them from beating the snap to gain their advantage.  Violations don't happen all the time but they happen enough to be noticeable.

There will be some defensive coach that will encourage players to deliver some head shots to knockout the opposing QB.  As much as I hate the idea of that happening, I'm not naive enough to believe that it won't.  The fact that the Ravens used Mark Andrews to run the play instead of Lamar, tells me that Harbaugh believes the same thing.  Time will tell.

4th and one used to be one of the most exciting plays in football. Now it's one of the least. It's just not good for the game. We basically had our season defined because spotting the ball was almost impossible. I don't want the best teams in the NFL partially defined by who runs that play better.

Since there is no longer a prohibition against helping the runner in the NFL, I actually wonder why this hasn’t been tried. Just have two lineman line up in a backfield formation with a RB in between and toss him over the line.

What?

1. We don’t have plays that are hard to officiate? Since when? EVERY QB sneak is hard to spot.

2. Boring? Really? I guess we can’t allow the kneel down.

3. QB is at risk? Then don’t run the play!!!! It’s a choice.

4. Unfair to defense? Right! We can’t have a play that’s hard to defend. Huh?

5. Your final comment is NOT an argument against the tush push. But, as long as you went there, why not allow a player to be thrown over the line. Again, isn’t it the offense’s choice?

Amusing that the Bills, the team that runs the tush push 2nd most often after the Eagles, voted to ban it.

Meanwhile, the teams we use it against in our own division, the Jets & Patriots, voted in favor of it... weird.

It's kind of dumb to vote against it anyway, especially for supposed injury risk. There are more dangerous things that happen all throughout the game than a QB sneak with pushing from behind.

What is this? Freakin rugby?

It's a Rugby scrum minus the hookers.

Maybe this is one of the ways that fan felt McD was content with second place…

How else could McD justify wanting to eliminate such a huge advantage for his own team? So stupid…

I wish it got outlawed for the long term nature of Josh Allen, but I did not realize that we use it more than any other division in football without the Eagles, so it is definitely an advantage tonis

Really? This isn't hard to justify or understand.

I really don't like anything gimmicky and it feels gimmicky.  I have the same feeling about the new dynamic kickoff and even when they changed the extra point attempt from 20 to 33 yards.  I think the mistake the NFL made was to try and ban the tush push after the Eagles won the Super Bowl.  Maybe table it until next year.  Even if it's an ugly play leading to bad TV, it still felt like you were punishing the Eagles for doing something so good that the rest of the league felt the need to banish it.  Last off-season would've been the ideal time when they were awful down the stretch and the Bucs fleeced them in the WC game.
