Leftover Pizza - Where To??

I’ve always been a “leave it on the counter” guy. 
 

Until my girlfriend moved in. Now it promptly hits the fridge.

I leave it on the counter, but if it’s there overnight it’s usually going in the trash in the morning. The wife will pop it in the fridge. She keeps putting tomatoes in the fridge, despite me telling her repeatedly how the cooking channels say don’t do that. I choose my battles wisely.

counter top for only 1 night and as long as there is no chicken on it.  Fridge is still some left around lunchtime.

Fridge. Most people would not be affected, but best not to chance food poisoning. Anyoe who has had it knows why. If you haven't you are very lucky.

I don’t understand why there would be a food poisoning risk. 
 

It’s fully cooked food that’s being stored at room temperature inside. 
 

I used to throw my leftover pizza - in the box - inside the oven so it wasn’t in the way. 
 

I’d eat it for another two days and never once had a problem.

I have a simple system:

If it has meat on it, it goes in the fridge. I don't like leaving meat (even cured meat) sitting out at room temp overnight.

If it has no meat on it, it sits out at room temp. It's fine. Nothing on there is gonna get ya.

And honestly, I agree with you: It's likely fine in either case. Americans are waaaay too touchy about room temp foods and food poisoning. Everything we eat is mostly processed to high heaven and chock full of preservatives anyway. Food temp is the least of your worries.

What about eating the whole pizza right off rip?

 

I just get a small typically now and can usually knock it out if I'm hungry

There is bacteria on everything and in the air. If you are healthy it usually mot  problem but if you immune system is down from bein can be a problemg tired, stressed, etc.,  it can be problem.  Even  a sterile room has some in it but at an extremely low level

If there is meat on it then it should absolutely be in the fridge for safety reasons. Even cured meats are not "meant" to be room temperature and uncovered.

I used to do that all the time too.

'Til the day my wife turned the oven on to 425 without knowing it was in there

I thought this answer might have come up sooner.

 

My pizza will sit on the counter as I graze off of it after the initial meal. Eventually I stop grazing, and the box ends up in the trash in the morning. No food safety issues in my experience, and I’ve been doing it a long time.  

 

I know where I got my last delivered pizza from (the guy’s originally from Grand Island), but I’m not sure how many years it’s been. If the wife mostly just eats pizza we make at home. Other than that it’s a cheap lunch to stop for a slice. That’s all the pizza I need. 

 

There are a few places with pizza that people love, but they only do a whole pie. We would need a crowd at the house to do that.
