to be fair: which jeopardizes the on the field product more?

Rice also faces criminal and civil penalties for his involvement in something worse for society at large

In this society, money means more than personal misconduct, and that is frightening.

I’m not sure workplace conduct punishment for union employees doing dumb stuff off the clock vs jeopardizing on the clock outcomes is how I judge that

Why would anyone be in custody?  It was a traffic accident.  There’s pictures of the drivers walking away on foot.  The cars have damage, but they aren’t mangled or anything.  Sounds like they were being stupid, but nobody’s getting arrested over speeding on the Dallas expressway unless they were driving impaired.

Chiefs fan.

Sure, sounds about right.  Take a supplement your trainer gave you -- 6 games.  Be convicted in a multi-car accident and have to serve actual jail time -- 2-4 games.

Jesus.

Jalen Carter crashed a car and left the scene of a fatal car accident.  He got probation and was drafted top 10 a year later.  Rice was incredibly lucky that his stupidity didn’t have a worse ending.  I’m not condoning his actions, nor does it make even the tiniest bit of difference what I think should happen to him.  The reality is that it was a traffic accident that resulted in no major injuries.  He’s got enough money to afford a competent attorney, so the odds of him seeing the inside of a jail cell are virtually nil.

I realize he plays for the team that keeps winning Super Bowls so everyone here wants to pretend that the book will be thrown at him, but that’s little more than fan fiction.

One affects the game that the league runs, one doesnt.

PEDs, gambling, cheating, etc are all directly related to their job. Off-field stuff isnt.

Folks get so confused about employer discipline when it comes to this stuff. I could commit a whole bunch of crimes that my employer would have zero business punishing me over. Including car accidents.

Now, I get that they are in high-profile positions and the league needs to protect it's public image in order to make money, but that is the only reason they get involved with punishments for off-field issues.

Punishing people for off-field crimes is what the judicial system is for, and he'll be serving 30 days and 5 years probation. Any issues with that, take it up with the courts.

Or Miller - possibly get in fight with your girlfriend, which you deny, no charges ever filed. Get suspended for 4 games by the league anyway.

Madness those 30 days can be served at any point during the 5 year probationary period.

Unless I’m misunderstanding the reports?

I'm going to guess that it will need to be consecutive days.

Next years off season training program: dont drop the soap or get shived.

Also the og poster failed to realize that Carter's issue was when he wasn't even in the NFL at that time so kinda tough for the league to suspend a player for something he did without being in the league at the time of the incident.

I read the same. 30 days that can be served anytime during the 5yr in any increments.
