I know that 95%-99% of us have no idea what we're truly watching, because football is so damn complex, but I'd argue that number jumps to 99.9% when it comes to kickers and punters (I’ve read that most coaches and gms have no idea what they're watching when it comes to kickers and punters). Normally I don't point that out this directly, but you seem so confident that you actually know something about what you're talking about, but I'm probably 95% safe to say you have absolutely no idea and are just group thinking with the other 95% of people without trying to understand the situation and actually try and cobble some type of insight by listening to people who know what they're talking about on the subject and synergizing ideas together. And it's all good, I'm not really judging how you do sports, have at it and have fun...I don't do it that way, I don't agree with that approach and when it gets too noisy and group thinky I push back, but enjoy your hobby as you see fit as long as you're not like sending threats to Bass or anything...my one recommendation is to realize it's something that's happening (feeling very confident that you're right about something you don't really know anything about, with a huge group of other people), because sports is one thing, but be mindful of it in other areas of life because it can be a treacherous path in other areas of life. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have zero true beef with Bass and would never, ever personally attack an athlete or any other person with a threat, physical or otherwise. But I do think the whole Buffalo Bills way of coddling these half-assed players cuz they are “nice guys” means we get teams full of lovely guys who suck. Also, of course I have no special insight on Bass or any other player. But I do see a player who looked worse and worse during the season, culminating with him driving a stake into the heart of our season. Why should I have any hope he’s gonna bounce back? Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly, Marv Levy, Thurman Thomas. Now Josh Allen, Stef Diggs and Sean McDermott. I would add people like Dawson Knox or Gabe Davis to the list, but the truth is they aren’t really chokers. They are just guys who were never good enough in the first place that we convinced ourselves could be champions. The point is that Highmark is the worst stadium in the league to kick in. The wind conditions are notorious for their unpredictability as they often blow in opposite directions in one end zone vs. the other and the swirling winds can literally change from the time you’re lining up to kick to the time you kick the ball. As such, unless he was battling an undisclosed injury of some sort, I wouldn’t expect radical improvement from Bass, especially later in the season when the winds off the lake really pick up steam. Kickers are so important in the playoffs. You cannot win a Super Bowl with a shaky kicker. He hit an upright in Detroit when the pressure was in but it went though. I’d say so in 2021 and 2022 he was converting 87% of his kicks. Great accuracy especially 40+ yards (18 for 23.) Bass has a powerful leg and can probably make a 60 yarder. He could be better and definitely showed signs of regression this season. If he doesn’t miss against KC this topic probably doesn’t exist. Dr.Sack Posted February 13 Share Posted February 13 Draft a K and actually give him a shot at earning the job. Bass appeared to lose it this year, and the leg looks shot. Not a surprise considering he’s 27 and a smaller guy who has to put everything he has to create the power a bigger stronger legged kicker can create. In soccer Bass is the size of a small midfielder.
