Why Not Go For 2? (play to win)

Subject says it’s all. 13 seconds, kneel down game. McD time and again opts for the kick. Why not go for 2 and make it a 4 point game?

If our offense is #1 in the league and our defense is #32, one might consider something like this. Otherwise, it's reckless and stupid.

If you miss the conversion, which has a historical 50% win rate, now the Eagles can win the game simply by kicking a field goal.

If you make the conversion, the Eagles have to score a touchdown to win.

You would have to have extremely little faith in your defense and extremely strong faith in your offense to do this. The analytics say DO NOT do it.

It’s a legitimate question, but it’s the type of thing that would never even occur to McDummy.  It certainly would have been better than what he chose to do.

I actually thought of this at the time and felt stupid for thinking of it

Needed to force the Eagles to settle for OT and not go for the win.

How did that work out?

KC game I was all for going for 2.  You win or lose in regulation and force Bills D to actually play defense if you don’t convert.  Different situation with Philly.  If you’re successful on the 2, plenty of time for Philly to march down field for the win. Making it a 3 point game, makes Philly play conservative and settle for FG attempt.

I'm interested where our defense ranks in the last 2 mins of 1 score games.
