Yeah, he's an average cover corner with great ball skills and tries to bait the qb into throwing his way. He looks at the qb too much and lets his man get away from him frequently

I think he just had Jairus Byrd style luck in 2021 and he'll never come close to those interception numbers again.

Byrd was the exact analogy I was going to use!

He is a good player but that is quite a bit of money, no? Didn't they also bring in 33 year old Gilmore? I'm sure he will play very hard. 🙄

I heard on Sirius today that Dallas has allocated huge money to the defense, and that the coach claims that her wants to run more, throw less, and rely more on defense.

Good luck with that losing philosophy.

Shhhhhh!   Don’t talk about spending money on the defense.  You’ll stir the locals 😋

One thing you can’t say about old man plastic face Jones is he isn’t cheap.

Diggs needs to get over himself.

Another case of the Cowboys overpaying for their players.  How does this team stay under the cap when they consistantly overpay for players.

He might be overrated but they have a top 5 defense and he’s a a part of if.

I agree.  He seems to get beaten more often than a top cover should.  Takes chances.

Gunner is correct that we would get similar money if he hit free agency, but I think this continues Jerry Jones's pattern of caving to pay top money to guys who are just less top-players.  I don't think he shows the discipline that a good GM shows.

Is this much different than the Ed Oliver situation which is widely praised for its “Draft and Retain your own” strategy?

Yes, it is.  I believe Oliver was #8 among DTs when the deal was done, and he's already down to 12.   Diggs is #4.   Oliver was paid as a good, efficient DT, but not a star.  Diggs got star money, so far as I can tell.

More about the timing of deals and market scarcity. Diggs will be 12th soon enough.  both are overpaid based on past performance

Trevon Diggs is a first team All Pro, there are escalators for contracts...Ed Oliver has never even made a Pro Bowl

Diggs contract is easily justifiable

they played some really bad qb's last year.  The schedule is way tougher this year.

that afc south was dreadful last year.  They played a number of backups.  They are talented but still they were not challenged most of the year, they caught burrow early when they were not right yet.

Puts him joint 5th among corners in AAV and there are people above him who I think are more overpaid than he.

Probably a slight overpay by reference to his peers but the list of really good young corners from recent drafts isn't long... Pat Surtain and Sauce spring to mind but not a lot of others have proven it. So if Diggs hit the market I fancy he'd get at least what Dallas paid him on the open market.

He gets a lot of turnovers but he also gives up a lot of long TDs too by taking risks he doesn't need to take because he is looking for the INT. I don't consider him worth that money, IMO.

He gave up 3 touchdowns last year and 4 in the season where he generated 11 interceptions and 2 pick 6s.

Yes he is an aggressive style of corner, but compared to the other go to aggressive corner of recent times, Marcus Peters, Trevon does not get burned as much. He is also in the 50s for completion percentage allowed which is where all the top guys are.

The "he gives up too many touchdowns" thing is overblown. The playmaking way outstrips what he gives up.

Yeah I basically have Diggs as who Marcus Peters thought he was.
