DaVinci Posted yesterday at 03:28 AM Posted yesterday at 03:28 AM Would it have been a big issue if they opened it in 2027. They wouldn't have to be so rushed. Quote

Shadows will of course vary depending on the time of the day and month of the year, but they’ll definitely cover some of the field at times. Not as much in September as they will in late December when the sun is lower in the sky. Quote

If you want to see basically what it will look like watch a Tottenham soccer game on TV. The stadium and it's orientation are very similar. Obviously the sun angles in London will be different than in OP given how much further north London is, but it will give you a good approximation 2 Quote

The position of old stadium resulted in sun not being a factor. Here in Ga, the old ATL stadium that had a canopy had both shadows and sun issues. Quote

Depending on the time of day, the sun is a factor at the old stadium also. Late game 1pm or early game 4pm looking diagonally back towards the scoreboard side from the visitors side at the tunnel end puts the sun right in the way. This will be much less of a problem at the new stadium because the building itself will block the setting sun in a way the current one doesn't. There will be some pretty stark shadows at times though which are more of an issue for TV than for anything else. Quote

Pretty sure it's not Jim Bob just grabbing whatever he feels like and installing it. Yes, it’s all laid out originally by the architects and then detailed in the shop drawings created by the seating contractor. While the design is random, the installers are following a seat by seat ‘map’. Believe it or not, in the old days, prior to CAD we would have had a spotter with binoculars on the other side of the stadium bowl signally to the installers which color they want where. Crazy, right? 1 Quote

I know they turned the footprint a bit to mitigate the wind and blowing snow, so the sun’s path across the field will be different. Hopefully, it will not affect play on the field. Also, the intensity is a bit different in ATL usually. I assume the home team will be on the sunny side, so that it’s colder for visitors. Quote
WotAGuy Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago As an astronomer and meteorologist, I can say with confidence that the lower sun angle during the fall means there will be no sun or shadow in the new stadium. Both have been eliminated by the new technology. You’re welcome. 1 Quote
