Week 11: Browns at Bills

Two quick thoughts:

Glad we have Josh Allen because this snow event isn’t exactly a great recruiting thing to promote playing and living in Orchard Park for free agents. Although neither was the wind game last season or any number of weather games since 1972!

With the lack of in-person practice this week and extensive time holed up, the Bills coaching staff had better have studied extensive film and  know the Cleveland Browns tendencies, better than the Browns themselves.

Singletary should have a very nice day tomorrow. The Browns have a lot problems stopping the run. Plus, they have to be concerned with Allen and the Bills quick striking passing game. Sure hoping this is a bounce back win for the Bills.

If they dont abandon it because of a couple stuffs.

Should be true.

Juat need to play him more than the first quarter.  And when he’s hot, let him play.  Stop spelling him with anyone else until he needs it.

I think at some point you can almost unlock another level of this offense by going to Cook as RB1. I have been a big Singletary fan at times but Cook is turning 1 yard runs into 6 or 7 yards. I really think we could change this offense for the better by giving Cook the biggest snap count at RB. I certainly don’t expect it to happen but I feel like tomorrow would be a perfect day to break that out. Just start Cook out of the gate and see what he could do with the ball in his hands 15+ times.

Singletary has been doing that for years. He almost never goes down after his first contact. He has tremendous balance and forward lean while he runs, and is suddle enough in his cuts to have the shake needed to get those extra yards.

I do agree Cook is the future. I don’t see it happening this year. What cook offers is something that Singletary DOESN’T have, which is the home run ability as we saw on display from James’ brother last Sunday.

I want Cook to be the man. However, I'm not seeing what you are talking about with Cook. He has pretty much under preformed with his limited chances. He seems to be very light and not able to shed defenses especially between the tackles. Imho, he doesn't look anyway near close to being a number 1 RB.

At some point Cook/Hines/Shakir have to get more than just a couple looks right?  Even Knox for that matter.  Otherwise wtf is this coaching staff doing?  Either Beane is giving them really bad players, Beane and the staff are not on the same page, or this coaching staff just doesnt know wtf to do with them.  I can see Shakir because he was a late rounder but we drafted Cook high, we traded for Hines, and just gave Knox an elite contract.  They obviously wanted a pass catching back and obviously wanted to add to the TE position and here we are... all under utilized.

Based off this coaching staff and the way they act with other players... unless injury is too much, I doubt Klein plays. You know... he has to work himself into the system that he has already been in and all.

The way you speak about the underutilized guys comes across as if you think the offense is broken or something. We have one of the top offenses in the league, and yes we also have room for improvement. Cook, and Shakir are rookies. They have both shown flashes, and have earned more reps over the course of the season. Hines bas been in the team for a few weeks, and is a role player. He will get more work, but he and Cook steal reps from each other. So your noting two guys as being under utilized while acknowledging that there reps directly compete each other.

Knox is the most baffling one, I mean he has a great all around game, but I expected more from him in the passing game. This is Dorsey’s first year, maybe that has something to do with it. I don’t know. But that one’s legit, the rest are guys who it’s a bonus if they are more than a role player this season.

BTW, it’s a bit of an over reaction to begin to even suggest Beane isn’t getting good player. Like I said, our offense is far from bad, we’ve lost 3 games by a combined 8 points, and if not for mistakes made by our team (as in correctable) we could have won all 3 of them. Yes, we can better, yes we have things to fix, but it’s plain silly to act as if there are major issues. Let’s see how we finish the rest of the regular season and go from there.

To me, Josh has to play superman every week because Diggs is the only consistent weapon.  That leads to mistakes. That to me is broken. I think the offense is good and will be even better once they correct the mistakes, and I do agree they are correctable.  The problem I see is that with Diggs being the only consistent playmaker, it makes Josh job 100 times harder than it needs to be.  Good defense is going to shut that down.  I watch Josh play QB and I watch other QBs play football.  It always seems 10x harder for Josh to get the job done.  Rarely see that nice easy throw with noone 5-10 yards away from that nice wide open receiver like other QBs have a lot.  Rarely see that off target pass where the receiver makes great catches bailing out the QB left and right.  Josh always needs to play perfect.

While the yardage has been good and a few games have skewed us to a high scoring total, you also have to recognize we rank 22nd in red zone offense.  We were 1st last season. I think its having another playmaker is what it takes to fix some of these errors. Not to mention the oline has not been so good this season.

There is a reason the Beane was looking to get a pass catching back since the off season.  More weapons = tougher to have good coverage. Josh cant be superman every week and we cant go into the post season expecting him to be the perfect QB he was last season.  Thats extremely rare for any QB.  They need to do something to relax the game somewhat for him.

I just feel this staff has a hard time either trusting players or developing players.  Its either that or Beane just isnt making good picks.  You rolled your eyes at that, and thats ok, but there really isnt much other options than that.  Epenesa, Basham, Cook, Phillips, Ford, Moss, Rousseau, Bernard are all first 3 round picks.  Either they arent on the team, or are mostly role players, one or two have shown flashes. Add in Oliver and Elam... would Elam even have played if White started the year?  They are still rotating Elam and Benford when both are healthy.  I think Oliver is good but is he a guy you pay a big contract to because he is great?  Hell even Singletary was under used his entire time here which is another third round pick.  Add in Tremaine Edmunds who has been polarizing his whole career of people either think he is doing his job or people think he sucks. Not many if any ever called him great.

On offense our great adds outside of Diggs have mostly been ok players or players that only had a couple years left.  Sanders, Beasley, Brown.  All great players but all at the end of their careers.

Im fine if you have a difference of opinion but what is the other option?  Either Beane isnt good at getting difference makers, the staff isnt doing a good job developing them into difference makers and or they dont trust new players unless its a spot of need because there is no one else.

All of our big investment outside of Josh and Diggs is on defense. This defense is barely good enough to keep KC in check enough for our offense to keep up with and this offense is barely good enough to beat an average KC defense.  So its always a coinflip.  At some point this team needs to realize that it needs difference makers on offense too and balance that out with the 200 man dline rotation.  Look at Miami... they have Tua at QB and they are taking the league by storm because Hill/Waddle. And that actually makes me sick saying that because I really dont think Tua is great. He is good but I dont think he is Allen, Mahomes type level good.

This is just my observatory opinion.  Im not down on the team.  I still think we can win it all.  I just think its strange how this team handles players.  I've never seen so many drafted and traded for players that at best are small time role players.

That's fair. However, offensively speaking this seems to be a strange season. Statistically, the Bills offense is very good. To me, it seems as though the offense has lost a bit of its identity, mojo, and has incongruent game plans from half to half. The one thing that is particularly disturbing is my recent reaction to Allen passing the ball. I'm almost cringing as he releases the ball. I find myself wanting him to run rather than pass. Some of those passes are like WTF are you seeing? Almost hard to believe. You aren't going to win many games with all those INTs. After 11 weeks, who would have thought Josh Allen would lead the league in INTs? Just adds to the strange season hypothesis. I feel like I've lost trust and confidence on both sides ball. A win vs Cleveland sure would be nice.

To me, despite my criticism of him, Josh is the reason our offence is the statistically the best, or one of the best, in the NFL. I think Mahomes is the only other QB currently playing who'd have a chance of getting something good out of it and, even then, I think he's behind a better O Line in Kansas.

Put any other QB behind that O Line with these receivers and we'd be a hot(ter) mess right now.
