Tiberius
I own a sailboat and 15 mph winds are pretty tough to sail in. 130 mph winds!! Wow! Wow https://www.foxweather.com/weather-news/hurricane-ian-florida-preparations-southeast-tampaEvacuations ordered along Florida's west coast Several counties along Florida's west coast have already issued mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders. According to the FOX Forecast Center, storm surge could reach as high as 10 feet along portions of Florida's west coast, though the entire western Florida coast is susceptible to some level of storm surge. Storm surge is the rise of water levels caused directly by a storm and does not take into account rainfall or wave size, which can add additional feet on top of a storm's surge. "In order to protect residents, we are issuing a mandatory evacuation order for Zone A, recommending a voluntary evacuation for Zone B and opening emergency shelters," Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise said. SoCal Deek
Yes, let's hope everyone is OK. (But whatever the Governor does in response, he better not observe the damage from an airplane! Everyone knows that's racist.)

B-Man
DeSantis faces the true test of any Florida governor FTA: Through Monday, DeSantis held three briefings at the Emergency Operations Center, a regular venue for governors managing storm responses. He praised the Biden administration after the president on Saturday declared a state of emergency for Florida, which allows FEMA to begin coordinating efforts ahead of the arrival of the storm. It was a rare compliment from a governor who has used Biden as a political heel on a range of partisan issues as he prepares for what could be a 2024 run for the White House. “They stand by ready to help, so we appreciate that quick action,” DeSantis said. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/09/27/desantis-faces-the-true-test-of-any-florida-governor-00058925

Tiberius
The precise size and strength of Ian, as well as what path it ultimately will carve as it ambles up the Gulf of Mexico, remained uncertain on Monday evening. But this much is clear: The Tampa Bay region that lies in its crosshairs, with nearly 700 miles of shoreline and more than 3 million residents, is one of the most vulnerable places in the United States to severe flooding if a catastrophic hurricane were to score a direct hit. Several years ago, a Boston firm that analyzes potential catastrophic damage found that the region could suffer $175 billion in damage from a storm the size of Hurricane Katrina. An earlier World Bank study called Tampa Bay — home to Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and a collection of other beach towns and low-lying communities — one of the 10 most at-risk metropolitan areas on the globe. “The fact this could be larger than anything we’ve seen is very concerning,” said Libby Carnahan, a Florida Sea Grant agent and a founder of the Tampa Bay Climate Science Advisory Panel, formed in 2014 to help area leaders better understand the rising flood risks and find ways to become more resilient. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/low-lying-and-flood-prone-tampa-bay-area-braces-for-first-major-storm-in-a-century/ar-AA12h6Dy

BillStime
DeSantis ALREADY playing the blame game because his STATE IS NOT PREPARED: EVEN after Biden over the weekend approved an emergency declaration in more than 20 counties in Florida to proactively surge resources to those areas and coordinate disaster relief between the state, local and federal governments. Also on Sunday: DeSantis told reporters on Sunday that he’s been in regular contact with FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell as the storm approaches, and he thanked the administration for being “ready to help.”
