Interesting article.

"These aircraft -- we'll call them aircraft -- are displaying characteristics that are not currently within the US inventory nor in any foreign inventory that we are aware of"

Among a multitude of other reasons.  Technically, some “UFOs” are probably military experiments, but the idea that they are alien spacecraft is lunacy of the highest order.

This is a lost cause though. The alien story is so much better than the non-alien story.

Conspiracy >>>>> boring messy reality

It's very difficult to judge or evaluate IR video from a HUD camera.

I've flown many sorties at sea using FLIR and you get some really strange images.

Even the accurate ones are suspect unless you know the range and heat source.

I doubt one in ten would be able to identify an aircraft carrier at 60 miles using FLIR with appropriate magnification unless you knew what you were looking at.  It's an odd, distorted image.

Astrophysicist explains why UFO videos fail to impress him

Frank said that he will read any government reports with interest, but said there may "be more prosaic explanations" like the possibility Russia and China are using drones to lure "our pilots into turning on their radar and other detectors, thus revealing our electronic intelligence capacities."

Not to weaken the astrophysicist's argument, but the Russians and Chinese already know a great deal about our F-18's radar and FLIR systems. They shadow aircraft carriers and have been for decades.

It would far more valuable an intel "get" to find out they were operating drones off the SOCAL coast.
