This is easy for Joe. He’s a fit for this time. These are all things a president should’ve said in the 80’s and 90’s but never did. He keeps the focus on jobs and infrastructure.
 

There isn’t much Republicans can do. They know he’s got a hold of the center and he’s not letting go.

Politically, Joe is right where he needs to be on the issues and Republicans are on the wrong side of history. It’s too easy for him. He’s been saying these things for 40 years and now he finally gets to do all of those things. He’s very lucky. Opportunities like this don’t come often.

The reason Trump was such a failure, other than being an idiot, is because he never pivoted to the center after he won. He actually moved more to the right. You can’t govern that way. He never had majority support. He was the first president to not break 50 percent approval in the history of polling. You can’t do that. You have to at least make an attempt at wooing the center.

 

Biden never had to pivot. He a traditional liberal which basically is the center nowadays. He likes progressive causes but since he keeps it about jobs,  he doesn’t scare anyone.
 

Pretty simple strategy really. His team is good at messaging and reading the pulse of the nation. They’ve been much better than I anticipated.

Did you both miss the fact that Biden has the most jobs increase first 100 days EVER DURING  a pandemic?  If your going to claim Trump did good with jobs, why aren't they doing the same for Biden.  Roger Kimball wants it BOTH ways.  Lousy journalism

Both speakers represented their positions fairly well.  Biden has the Democratic approach of more expansive government, Scott the Republican view of less expansive government.  The one thing I wish would have been brought up is the size of the national debt.  Biden’s increased spending will add to it, Scott’s party and their tax cuts made it bigger, and meanwhile China owns a lot of our debt and our country.  That is dangerous.  Also, thank God neither talked about the idiot culture war crap.

 

I liked Scott, but his problem is that he espoused traditional Republican views for a party that has abandoned such and has decided Trumpism is their way forward.  If they party is smart they’ll listen to what Scott said. But they won’t; McCarthy afterward talked about us not eating hamburgers even though he knows it’s a total lie.  Independents like me are sick of that crap.  We were last November which is why Trump lost.

Joe Biden is nearly 80, Many of the people who voted for him have patents and grandparents who recognized the challenges of Biden For Prez, laughed at him and rejected him for president when he ran.  He was a well known buffoon—confrontational, thin skinned, a gaffe machine, prone to making racist comments, but likable enough with his Scranton tough guy shtick to stay around.  
 

Those parents and grandparents were imperfect, they bought into the legislation that disproportionately targeted black Americans, the racist tendencies of a Biden could be laughed off with a wink and a nod, but those were the days when rushing to file for bankruptcy because you were undisciplined with a credit card came with a healthy amount of shame, when most folks didn’t believe you could buy a $30 an hour on a $15 an hour paycheck, and if you were lucky enough to go to colleges do secured loans to do so, you weren’t looking for someone else to save you from your excess.  
 

The problem is many of those people are no longer with us, and their kids and grandkids are often dumb as crap.  They long ago surrendered (or never had) the work ethic the country was built on, prefer easy money and are absolutely comfortable playing the victim and having their bills and financial obligations outsourced to those smart enough to figure out how to pay their bills on their own.   

 

If your problem with Hannity is that he’s repetitive, misleading and says thing that aren’t true, following the Biden model, Hannity will thrive until at least age 80.
