row_33
how the heck did he live this long? and he worked with Jerry (mostly) and can't be blamed for those inferior Bob songs that never seemed to end... ExiledInIllinois
Studio... Version but how much closer to a live vibe can you get! In collaboration with Garcia and Kruetzmann... Some of the best lyrics ever written... Deep... "In another time's forgotten space Your eyes looked through your mother's face Wildflower seed on the sand and stone May the four winds blow you safely home Roll away, the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew I'll tell you where the four winds dwell In Franklin's tower there hangs a bell It can ring, turn night to day It can ring like fire when you lose your way Roll away, the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew God save the child who rings that bell I may have one good ring baby, you can't tell One watch by night, one watch by day If you get confused just listen to the music play Some come to laugh their past away Some come to make it just one more day Whichever way your pleasure tends If you plant ice you're gonna harvest wind Roll away, the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew I'll tell you where the four winds sleep Like four lean hounds the lighthouse keep Wildflower seed in the sand and wind May the four winds blow you home again Roll away, the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew Roll away, roll away the dew"

T&C
Hunter and Sinfield were the greatest writers associated with a band that they didn't actually play in imo. RIP man... the memories will live on forever.

Buddo
Sad day - he was incredibly gifted, with the ability to leave things open ended enough, to let people interpret his songs in a number of ways, to suit their own circumstances. 2

Buddo
Bird Song, would be a personal favourite not already mentioned. Box of Rain, another awesome song. He was able to do all types, sad stuff like China Doll, Stella Blue, to the bizarre of China Cat. The hilarious Tennessee Jed, with the drunken cadence to match the lyrics. Uncle John's Band - yet another favourite. The list could go on for a fair old time. It's about time I listened to some more of his stuff.

Simon
The second most important member of the Grateful Dead and arguably the greatest rock and roll lyricist to ever walk the Earth. Now I don't know but I been told It's hard to run with the weight of gold Other hand I have heard it said It's just as hard with the weight of lead And I don't know but I been told If the horse don't pull you got to carry the load I don't know whose back's that strong Maybe find out before too long

Starting with “Silvio,” the two co-wrote many songs on Dylan’s Together Through Life in 2009. “He’s got a way with words and I do too,” Dylan told Rolling Stone. “We both write a different type of song than what passes today for songwriting.” Hunter told RS: “He’s the only guy I work with who I give the liberty to change things. After all, he is who he is.” Sad to read in that article that he had financial difficulties due to medical expenses, hard for me to fathom.

Rico
I love songs that reference gambling and cards, so I will say Deal (of course, a manic, rocking 1977 version).
