Should The Bills Play Josh Allen in Tonight's Game against the Lions?

In light of the Cam Newton Injury and many teams choosing to sit their starting QB, should the Bills play Josh Allen in tonight's game against the Lions?

He's got to play some. He needs the work. But he doesn't need to play a full half.

The only way the guy will continue to get better is to get live-fire snaps. Sure there's a risk. Sitting him is worse, IMO.

I was in that same boat until last night. I think McDermott would be taking a big risk if he suits him up tonight.

I think McDermott had it right - if things look good could be a few series - if they feel the time could use more time - then the half.

I think it is a mistake not playing these guys at all, but we will see in the end.

I’d play him for 1 quarter only, just like the first 2 games

Play him, will help him to get some reps against a D that will be similar to the ones he will face against NE and Tenn

Cam Newton is an established veteran QB. Josh Allen is not only a 2nd year QB, he's got a whole new O-Line and receiving corps. He needs the work.

He’s a football player not a china doll. Can’t play scared. Give him a couple series and sit him until week 1.

Don't want him out there the whole half, but this is it for him until week one so he should get a couple series.

Start him!  He needs the practice!

When he develops into a veteran franchise QB, sit him for ALL the pre-season games.

Week 1 is an important matchup against the Jets. The Bills offence needs preseason to gel to win that game.

No one wants an injury, but we need to be ready to win week 1.

Can he drive to the stadium - very dangerous?  He could choke on the pre-game meal.  Don't go through life scared.

That said, if he does well in the first few series, pull him.  If struggles, extend him.  Leave the field on a positive note.

I would not play him any longer than they have the 1st two games. A series or 2 then it's a wrap. Hopefully that's what they do.

The Pats D has been a swarming, blitzing machine this preseason.  Its almost as if Belichick is making a statement -- take my D coordinators and make them head coaches and I will make the D stronger without them.

Tonight is an opportunity for Josh to see the Pats D concepts live with a unit with pretty good talent.  I think its too good an opportunity to sit him. Play at least two series and see if he can move the team.  If he gets banged up in any way that causes him to miss regular season games it will get panned as a bad decision, but I think there is a lot of upside to playing him.

What's the difference between preseason game and regular game, nothing, he can get hurt anytime, the guy needs the reps.

A couple of drives. Then give it over to Barkley. For a backup, I like his steez.

For some reason this reminded me of that preseason game vs Tampa at home a few years ago where Marrone refused to pull EJ out until they scored a TD. It was so painful.

Start him under one condition - he is not alowed to run past the line of scrimmage under any circumstances.
