GG 3,571 Posted May 8 Snooze reporting that Buscaglia will leave WKBW in August for The Athletic. Will continue to provide Bills features for the TV station. The Athletic definitely needs to ramp up their sports coverage to justify the subscription.
BillsVet 731 Posted May 8 Loved how the news, specifically Pergament, pointed out in that article that the Athletic's website does not have the exposure the BN has. Yet, they banked on the BN Blitz which has failed miserably. Either way, sports journalism is changing rapidly and some outlets are slow to accept it, the BN being a prime example.
offyourocker 299 Posted May 8 I love the Athletics article. Never even thought of paying for BN
Mrbojanglezs 1,156 Posted May 8 (edited) Thats surprise considering Joe is, I believe the director of sports for WKBW. So you would think that would be a well paying job for him, considering he came from radio. Edited May 8 by Mrbojanglezs

Yes, but it is dying a slow death, so it makes sense for anyone there to be looking for opportunities to jump ship before it sinks completely into oblivion.

Is WKBW in trouble? I know they are probably 3rd in ratings but I haven't heard that.
ndirish1978 1,362 Posted May 8 This is great news and a strong addition to The Athletic. My subscription to that site has been worth every penny.
badassgixxer05 349 Posted May 8 I pay for nothing. All the news I get is for free. Thanks for all those that put in the work to allow me that privilege. It is much appreciated..

I prefer Bove anyway..Long,tall Joe is hardly on and he's clueless about the Sabres. With that being said..those sports segments are getting shorter and shorter. Josh Reed (4) is my favorite out of all the locals.
HansLanda 391 Posted May 8 Print news biz has been off a cliff for a long time, the fact he is leaving TV for digital-only should be an indicator local TV is next to get crushed.

CBD 41 Posted May 8 I love the Athletic. Subscription is relatively inexpensive if you buy when there are promos or sales. Even cheaper if you have an .edu email. They just launched a new podcast network, I would guess that Joe B's "Bills Blitz" podcast will be exclusively found on their site at some point.

I also re-upped around Christmas when they were running a promo without the student discount and was $29.99 and a free tshirt. Also, the phone app is great. Clockwork 46 Posted May 8 Joe B is a personal friend of mine and I love him dearly. He made the right move here. The Athletic is the most proper local outfit these days it seems. 2

It may be worth the money if you follow multiple sports and multiple teams, but they produce far less content on Bills & Sabres than the Snooze. People may like their reporters and features more than Buffalo News, but they do not have the same level of coverage yet. For a Buffalo-only fan I think you get a much better bang for the buck with BN Blitz subscription than you do with The Athletic Edited May 8 by GG
Magox 1,541 Posted May 8 I actually like the Athletic, yeah they don't put out as much content but it's quality content.

For a Buffalo-only fan I think you get a much better bang for the buck with BN Blitz subscription than you do with The Athletic To me it is a quality versus quantity issue. The athletic has by far better content and better writers lead by excellent pieces by Matthew Fairburn. I would not trade that for any of the News material. I enjoy the different pieces by the staff and the coverage has just been great. I will keep that everyday of the week.
DCOrange 989 Posted May 8 Sweet. I split an Athletic subscription with a few friends of mine to keep the individual cost done and it's well-worth it for us.
