Playoffs and defense

What I saw was the team with the pocket passer looked the best of all three. Mobile QBs aren't long for this league. I expect Dallas to lose to either the Rams or the Saints.

Why does it seem so many Bills fans yearn for the days of defense?

Because it was a better, more physical brand of football to watch.  I don’t think its particular to Bills fans either. Most fans who were watching the game prior to the rules changes would probably agree.

I agree. If Jonah Williams is gone by #9 I wouldn’t  be all the upset if we draft a defensive player. There will be some stud players sitting at #9 especially if a QB or 2 get drafted ahead of us. I would be very happy with DE Josh Allen, DT Ed Oliver, CB Greedy Williams.

Watched the early game and watching the Boys/Hawks now.  Defense always counts in the playoffs.

The Texans D was absolutely fabulous, totally marvellous in letting in 21 points to the Colts lickety-split!!!! It was such a relief to turn the game off right there as it was officially

garrrrrr-baaaaaaaaaaaage-thyme....

Great post OP, was the Canuck D just as superb in allowing that 5-0 loss to the Leafs?

clealry the D is dominant everywhere....

I feel like this is misleading. Dallas won against a team that played to there tempo for some reason instead of letting Wilson win it. And the colts o-line was dominate, as far as their D, even the commentators continually mentioned how it is bend but don’t break, O’Brien is just an awful coach who can’t adjust

The teams with the best offenses had byes.... I wouldn't read too much into it.

You still need a defense but the first two games of wildcard weekend isn't determing the trend the game is going in.

I don’t think anyone is thinking today’s WC games are any great barometer of leaguewide trends. Those are influenced by the rules and it’s all about the offense. You still need defense to some degree, and it’s getting tougher to play it well. The best defenses haven’t played yet this playoff season either. You need balance and proficiency on both sides unless your Offense is just ridiculous. Last years Super Bowl didn’t have a lick of defense until the strip sack of Brady. A great defensive team with a crappy offense probably won’t win a title now.

Team with the QB who likes to run around almost always loses, at some point, to a team with the pocket passer who stands in the pocket and accurately delivers the ball with timing and precision.

Funny, as I was watching the first game and thinking how irrelevant a guy like JJ Watt is to wins and losses.

Then thinking the same thing in Game 2 with Bobby Wagner.

Big name d-players don't translate to wins.

It's all offense.

What a regular season hockey game has to do with the NFL playoff escapes any rayional explanation.  One team yesterday shut down the # 1 rushing team in the league and another yielded 7 points.  Pretty good D.

Others have also mentioned O line.  Also important as the Colts showed especially.

Do you need good QB play?  Sure.  Is a QB enough in the playoffs?  No.  D will always be important.  I think you'll see one of the teams next week that have been offensive juggernauts get beat by better D.   The Rams most likely just like last year.
