2019 HC openings - updates

1. By all accounts, the Broncos’ coaching search has been seamless. Interviews last Wednesday (Chuck Pagano), Thursday (Zac Taylor), Friday (Mike Munchak) and Saturday (Brian Flores). They meet with Vic Fangio on Monday. The Bears losing to Philadelphia 16-15 on Sunday clears the decks if they want to meet up again with Fangio this week.

2. The Broncos’ search was never going to be glitzy. Three of the prominent candidates in the league are Josh McDaniels, Adam Gase and Mike McCarthy. Obviously, McDaniels wasn’t an option, John Elway ruled out Gase (a former Broncos offensive coordinator) and there was never any traction with McCarthy.

  • Josh McDaniels, Patriots offensive coordinator: It’s surprising that McDaniels is getting interviews just a year after leaving the Colts at the altar. At least one report has him as the favorite to get the job in Green Bay, but can he be trusted this time around?

Happy the jets are most likely going with an unproven college guy. big mistake if you ask me with a young QB.

idk what the fish plan is, but they would be wise to stick with their special teams coach imo.

I just want McCarthy out of the division

Sounds like Greggg won’t be retained as DC

Too bad for ol Greggy.

Makes perfect sense though. If you think you got the guy to get your QB where he needs to be, you don’t want to lose him in a year to a HC gig. there are defensive guys out there, and it’s easier than ever to replace them.

Kitchens is a good hire. No reason to interrupt the positive momentum.

Right. The one job he didn't turned down.

Colleges can do that?

I thought that was for NFL teams

It's a more recent position change by the NFL aimed at protecting their relationship with their free farm system. Teams have been told they will face league discipline if they proceed with an interview of a college coach if the school has rejected their request.

... Colts should thank their lucky stars......"STORMY McDaniels" would have done another hatchet job like in Denver.....best thing that could happen to this little gnat is he hangs with Pats thinking he's an heir apparent shoo-in for BB and.....Kraft hires someone else....

I think last seasons "talk" with Kraft to remain in NE*  may have altered his ego.

I called it (lamp) ;)

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who interviewed for the Green Bay Packers' head-coaching vacancy last week, confirmed he is returning to the Patriots in 2019.

"The book is closed," McDaniels said Tuesday on his weekly conference call, when asked if he anticipates interviewing for any other head-coaching jobs this year. "It's always a humbling experience to have an opportunity to interview with anybody for that position.

Would it be a pain in the ass to list all eight teams with vacancies in your original post, then to update them as coaches are confirmed hires?

Tampa Bay- Arians

Green Bay - LeFleur

etc.

etc.

I will admit ... this idea is being shared because it would make MY life easier, LOL!!!  So if it won't work for you, feel free to tell me to go scratch (invitation only open to YOLO).

Jets stuff

Quote

@RapSheet

Source: #Baylor coach Matt Rhule sent a text message to his staff indicating he’s staying in school. Essentially he’s not going to the #Jets.

@RVacchianoSNY

It’s not clear if the Jets actually offered Matt Rhule their job, but Rhule pulled out of contention over staff issues, a source confirmed. Jets weren’t going to give him total control over hiring assistants.
