Golden Tate 63 receptions, 706 yards, 4 TD... Tyrell Williams 38 receptions, 618 yards, 5 TD, Williams has almost the same amount of yards and 1 more TD but is also 5 years younger and 4" taller. I don't hate GoldenTate but if both players will be commanding top dollar which i think they will be then I'm going with the younger guy who is 6'4". I agree but see the point I have made elsewhere about the benefit of a vet - even one with his best football behind him - in helping in the room and taking the pressure off a highly drafted rookie. Tate is someone I see benefit in our young receivers (including potentially a rookie) learning from. What will they learn from Tyrell Williams? And struggles running routes but puts up numbers as a #3 with Philip Rivers throwing to him. Whole different ball game bringing him in here and trying to make him the focal point of your attack. His sloppy route running will not get him open when he is the guy being doubled rather than the two beasts ahead of him on the depth chart in LA. EDIT: I don't hate Williams and I wouldn't hate us signing him, he is clearly better than the guys we have here. But I think there will be better options that represent better value and better fits. If you care about him being younger it is because you want to throw a 4 year deal at him paying decent money and make him a key long term piece of your offense. Also remember he plays in a crowded offense where Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Melvin Gordon and Austin Aekler are all ahead of him in touches. It hurts that Manny Sanders blew out his Achilles because he would have been a good mentor for the guys we draft. The upcoming class of free agent receivers is a bunch of #3 guys who have either never lived up to their potential or whose best football is behind them. He fought for it really well after he fumbled it and recovered it with 3 defenders close to the ball. blacklabel Posted December 14, 2018 Share Posted December 14, 2018 Whatever they do for the WR group, I'm not expecting a "true #1" to suddenly appear on the roster for next season. Rather, I think they will have "pass catchers by committee" much like New England has always done. Aside from Moss, they've never really had a real number one wideout. They've always used a variety of receivers, tight ends and running backs. Given that Daboll sharpened his skills in NE for many years, I expect the same type of setup in Buffalo. Lieutenant Aldo Raine Posted December 14, 2018 Share Posted December 14, 2018 I watch a lot of Chargers football, and like I said before, Tyrell Williams is a better version of Kelvin Benjamin. He has good hands and gives 100% effort. But he is not a good route runner and while his straight line speed his fast, he is not crisp and quick in making certain cuts.
