He does it because he realizes an unconventional approach *may* win and he needs to at least give it a try, regardless of how stupid he looks. His ability to co-opt a picture of his staff buying polling numbers, with his campaign message in this advertisement, is first rate. His Biden-like forgetfulness, that he created some of the corporate powers and special interests he is now assailing, is a thing to behold. But, what I think I like the best, is his idea of “Join our campaign to clean up Washington". It’s a little wordy, though. Maybe try something like “Drain the Swamp”?
