Possible we use Allen like Ravens use Jackson?

To those of you who have used the "confused" reaction to my post without comment, why is this confusing to you?  I would not be surprised if the coaches tried to find a way to get their future franchise QB on the field somehow, even if he is not starting. I don't think this will necessarily happen, especially after hearing "No Place To Hyde's" logical explanation on why it wouldn't make sense, but I don't think it is outside the realm of possibility either.

Confusing to me because Jackson's athleticism adds a multi-dimensional aspect that Allen doesn't.  I expect to see both Jackson and Flacco on the field at the same time to open up the double pass and other trickeration.  Maybe Jackson comes in for a play here and there to run the Wildcat.  None of that would work with Allen.  In our case it wouldn't be having a package for Allen so much as it would be benching your starting QB for a series in the middle of a competitive game.  I don't think you do that in the NFL...not with the QB.  The QB needs to be a leader and stay on the field unless he's hurt.  You either bench Peterman for Allen or let Peterman roll.

Game in hand one way or the other and we want to get the rookie some reps, fine.  Hail Mary situation and we need Allen's arm to get it there, fine.

So I asked this question in another thread but it is kind of buried and I was wondering what people thought so I decided to start a new thread for it.

There is a lot of talk in the media about Baltimore having designed plays to get Lamar Jackson on the field to utilize his unique capabilities, but no one that I heard has speculated that we might do the same with Allen.

I know there is a risk to messing up the rhythm of the offense when you do this, but does anyone think Daboll might design some plays for Allen in order to take advantage of his mobility and big arm, as well as get him valuable game time experience? I know he is not really a gadget type of player, but I think it could really create some mis-matches for the Defense given how different his skill set is from Peterman. I for one would love to see this happen.

I am very positive that If in a Hail Mary situation Allen takes the snap. Outside of that, I think whoever they start is their QB...

I don’t foresee joe Webb packages or hard count specialization

I get that. I honestly think Allen is more athletic and mobile than he is being given credit for, but as someone said earlier, he is mobile compared to other QB's, Jackson is mobile compared to other football players.  That makes sense.

Lol, I intentionally avoided using the term "package" when talking about special plays for him, just to stay out of that rat hole.  ?

Allen is quite athletic and quite mobile, and not just compared to other QBs.

He is quick and shifty for his big size, and a fairly legitimate running threat, in a way that Peterman is not.

Don't think we will see him on some gadget play, however.  I just don't see that happening.

What plays are packages do you run with Allen that you don't with Peterman? Go deep and chuck it 70 yards?  That might get a tad predictable.

You can’t argue tha they bring different skill sets and therefore might have the be defended differently. Of course, I guess that is true of most QB tandems. I guess I’m just trying to find a way to get Allen on the field. :)

What are their different skill sets?  They have different strengths and weaknesses.  Maybe you bring Allen in for a Hail Mary if you haven't cross mid field.  What else do you run with Allen but not Peterman without tipping your cards?

The difference is JAckson can pass (arguably) and hes definitely a run threat.  You can run option plays, designed QB runs, or let him execute the standard offense.  Allen has decent mobility but no defense is scheming against his run game like Tyrod, Vick, Jackson.

I could see value bringing Allen in for a Hail Mary situation, since he has the arm strength.

He could be our Hail Mary specialist in the same way that EJ was used as the Hard Count specialist.  B-)

Ha I totally forgot about the Ej hard count thing. How ridiculous was that.

Having said that. If we need a 70 yard hail mary at the end of a game, I would seriously hope the coaches put Allen in there. It's rare that a guy can throw it that far, and with respect to Peterman, Allen could probably get it to the endzone
