Josh Allen ain’t bad

Recommended Posts

We're being awfully critical of a guy who hasn't play in a football game in several months and was his first time playing against NFL level talent in a new system. I thought overall he did good under the circumstances and am excited to see his development continue.

Today was proof he isn't ready to start, but he's clearly a talent worth developing. Once he learns the game he will be unstoppable... assuming we have receivers who can keep up.

Today was proof that the 3rd string o-line sucks--most of the time he was running for his life, put him with NFL players and see what he can do.

Almost counts in horseshoes, but that didn’t happen. You think Peterman or McCarron would have had the night they had behind the OL Allen had? If you’re gonna nitpick the bad , give credit for the good

You made a specific statement and I made a specific counter-argument.

Your quip about horseshoes is worthless. If you have nothing valuable to add, then don't bother.

None of the O-lines performed very well, as a whole. I don't think McCarron's line was much better than Allen's, if at all.

And awfully critical of Edmunds...and Foster....

Everyone is excited.

That doesn't matter.

Time is needed for him to develop into a good NFL QB saw a lot of mistake kind of passes if he was to go from the start 7 & 9 would be the best this team would see this year !!

Peterman looked good with the 1's now it's AJ's turn with the 1's then we can get a real over view of both !

Both AJ & Nate looked good though from what i saw but i'm still liking AJ to be our starter .

It’s an easy thing to say when Peterman and AJM play lights out. Folks will be singing a different tune as soon as those two show how “average” they really are.

It almost sucks that both played so well tonight because seeing Allen with the 1’s or 2’s would give us more insight and that’s not going to happen next week.

Allen needs to improve each week, he was patient in the pocket but things need to develop faster. Tough to tell if that was him, the WRs or both.

Foster did himself no favors nor his QB. If you want to make the team you have to lay out for that ball, instead he throws up the mitts in a half baked attempt.

Agree completely.

I think Allen stares his target down a bit also.

I noticed this in his college film, doesn't seem to have changed much at all.

Foster sucks.

If you came out of there unimpressed by Allen you didn’t watch the game. I was with some Steeler fans and they were blown away. The one guy was all fired up yelling at us “how can you not love this guy?!?” He was fantastic. Allen is a great athlete, with a cannon. He made 4 or 5 throws in that game that no one other than Aaron Rodgers can make. I’m excited to see him play with Corey Coleman so he can run under those bombs. Allen played with a garbage OL and CFL receivers.

I was honestly thinking the same thing.  Only player I’ve seen make the rope throw to Ray-Ray and the TD to Ray-Ray like that, is Rodgers.

The thing that stood out to me was Josh Allen's ability to escape the rush.  Even when defenders got hands on him, they couldn't seem to bring him down.  It was very similar to what Ben Roethlisberger and Cam Newton bring to the table.

On the night, there were at least 2-3 "wow" throws from Allen.  The zip and placement on that touchdown was impressive.  I know that people were always impressed with EJ Manuel's physical abilities too, but I don't ever remember being wowed by anything he actually did on the field.

Quite a few of Allen's incompletions were the fault of his receivers.  Either drops or poorly run routes.  Between the sieve of an offensive line, and the awful play of his receivers - you have to wonder how Allen would look with the 1st or 2nd team.

I don't think you can fault Allen too much on the 4th down play -- simply because it was 4th down.  He was trying to make something happen and there was nothing to lose.  Now if he does that on 1st-3rd down, it's another story.

How about the back foot to Khari Lee right before it? That was another Rodgers special. Considering the OL he played behind and the receivers that he played with I was thrilled. He looked way better than anyone expected.

THIS.

People have made up their mind about this kid, and it's just freaking stupid. But it's the same damned people since day one, so easy to ignore.

I thought that was more...Matt Stafford-esque.

The kid can do it all. Hopefully, he pieces it all together.

I thought Allen was impressive, especially given the OL and WRs he had to work with.  His stat-line and perception looks a lot different if Foster makes that TD grab.  The media would have that “should’ve been” TD throw on a loop all day.

That being said, he cannot do what he did on that 4th down play.  It was tipped up and almost picked, which would’ve led to a convoy of Panthers going the other way.  With how good our defense should be, we can’t be spotting teams TD’s like that.  It’s ok though, rookie moment and he should be able to learn from it.

We can't make excuses for him either. That's the kind of stupid play that results in -7 point momentum-changer.

"Nothing to lose" isn't accurate. The Bills were still in the game.

You could say the same thing about the posters here that have excuses for every bad thing he does and are comparing him to current/future HOFers. In this very thread I’ve seen Rodgers’ and Newton’s names brought up. That’s silly and stupid homer BS. Sorry if some people here aren’t buying that **** yet.

Right.

You haven't seen that from ME.

????????????

You can't be serious?!?!

He looked like that in college... bad foot work, over thrown balls...late decision making. But out of nowhere... he'll make a few throws that will "Wow" you...

Allen is a project, he was a project during college, coming out of college... & nothing has change. He has a little talent... but was he worth a 1st like the 5 experts thought? Heck no!

Other experts like Bucky Brooks, DJ, Charles Davis, heck our own best reporters, Sal, Joe B, Fairburn, ect... all said he should be a 2nd rd pick, but given the position it's not going to happen.

That's what people got confused on. Just cause he was projected to go in the 1st doesnt mean he was suppose to go in the 1st. Projects like Allen shouldn't sniff the 1st... but it's a QB league..& this stuff happens.

This is why something's I love what McBeane has done & some things I don't.

Like, what made then not want Deshaun Watson??? What made him not worth the 11th pick 2 years ago? Yet, the Pegula's went gushing over Allen??? How you not gush over Watson???

But hey drafting Allen was bold... & like I've said... "Its a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off"

EJ & JP looked better then Allen in their preseason games... that's facts...not being negative

Care to comment on Allen’s escapability, monster arm, and above average running ability?

Peterman and McCarron had better stats but it was easy to see who has the most talent.

For the first time in 35 years, it looks like the Bills drafted themselves a gem at QB.

I’m not saying he will be as good as John Elway because that would be idiotic but that is exactly who Allen reminds me of.

I brought up Rodgers because I don’t think any other QB (with the possible exception of Stafford as someone noted) could have made that back foot throw to Khari Lee or the TD throw to McCloud. No other QBs in the world have the requisite arm strength to get the ball, from that position, past the defender. That’s why Rodgers name came up, not because Allen is going to the HOF after 1 preseason half.

In terms of Cam, he really is the appropriate comparison for Allen at this point. When he entered the league he had the same strengths and weaknesses (and size) as Allen. We are always using player comps for rookies based on that. That doesn’t mean that he will be a future MVP.  It just means what he does well and what he needs to work on are similar.
