Rex said he was going to be DROY before his injury. I was always surprised they got rid of his so quickly

Decent player who wasn't yet back to 100% when McBeane parted ways with him. Just not a McD preference at the position. He wants guys that can move and cover. Never one of Ragland's strengths. He showed some glimpses last year and I wish the kid well.

Does this mean the Bills shoulda kept Rex?

No Rex should have kept Schwartz and just be the HC.  He would still be HC now if he had not changed the defense.  He was fine with the players and with game management.  2015 they had top 10 offense and Rex's defense got worse every week.  Losing A. Williams hurt but it was the scheme that destroyed the defense.

He was pretty effective in KC from what I hear and saw.

I didnt like losing him..but its not the end of the world.

Hopefully it doesnt shape out to be a jerry hughes kinda miss for the Colts.

Even if not a fit as a starter, I probably would’ve kept him as a package player on that cheap contract and realistically Little trade compensation but not a huge deal

When they interviewed Schwartz for the HC job he was asked if he would stay on as DC if he didn't get the job. He flat out told them no. That was more than a week before Rex was interviewed. Hiring Rex probably made it even easier for Schwartz to walk away but he couldn't do that until he was fired because he would have forfeited his $2m salary. Schwartz and Rex just isn't a good match. Rex is too much the blowhard.

I'll put you in the Rex was misguided camp then.

Sounds a little like projection on your part, as I didn't mention Rex at all. It was a general statement about the drawbacks of not having continuity, not about any particular hiring or firing. For what it's worth, I was never a fan of Rex.

That's one move I really disliked last year... He definitely has the pedigree to produce at a high level in this league.

McBeane pulled the trigger too soon imo.

But in a very scheme specific role. He’s be great as a thumper under schwartz for instance but not so much sideline to sideline for us.

for a blow off pick though - I’d take 3 years of him in goal line or “and short” packages and think he’d still be better than most league minimum backups in case of injury despite scheme challenges...
