billsfan60
Everybody anoints saban a lessor god but fail to remember he couldn't find his butt with both hands as HC of the phish. Bama is home and wouldn't miss a Tide game but no fan of saban. He's a recruiting genius and knows how to pick coordinators, but if he's smart he'll stay in Tuscaloosa cause he would simply fail again on the big stage. My sense about Saban has always been that he personally makes sure every single person in the program knows exactly what to do, and he makes his instructions as clear as possible so it's easy for each individual to do his job. billsfan60
Alabama is a house divided. It's either Bama or auburn. Friday night HS, Bama on Saturday and church on Sunday (except during the NFL season). Saban showed his true colors in the way he departed Miami. To top it off as a 40 year Bills fan, Saban's time with the phish tainted him forever for me. Love my Bills and hated wrex, jauron, moron, mularkey. Same with saban and the Tide. I know it's irrational, he's been great for Alabama, maybe because he has the personality of a door knob, but for what ever reason that's the way it is. He's a winner and I can appreciate what he does as a coach and recruiter but wouldn't want to be stuck on a desert island with the guy. Saban will go down with Bryant as an all time great and Alabama is lucky to have him. As far as the patsie*** thing goes, I don't think you can view college ball the same way as the pro game. Jalen Hurts will be gone from Alabama next year and someone will take his place. With any luck there will be no drop off. Brady on the other hand, will go all the way from cocaine to rogaine in his time with the putridiots. Like the Bills, Bama is about the institution, not the won/lost record or the star power of the roster. The Bills, the Cubs, the Packers, the Brooklyn Dodgers, Bama, Notre Dame and many others transcend statistics and championships and are institutions because for a myriad of reasons they resonate with their core fans. There's no such thing as finding a new team to root for.

The University is now ranked high academically and admission is highly sought by students from all over the country. He is the greatest coach in the history of college football and it isn't close. As far as the pros, he wanted Brees and was given (and promptly cut) Dante Culpepper. With Brees he would have won a super bowl, maybe a few. How about getting Saban to do some mentoring on Dareus? I'm sure he was a father figure for Marcel at Bama but Marcel on his own is not known for his maturity and work ethic. Dareus has been subjected to a lot of personal tragedies and trauma in his life. However, his less than resolute attitude and irresponsibility that he currently exhibits are not attitudes that his stern college coach would have tolerated while under his guidance. Coach Saban would respond to Marcel in a second if he reached out. He did quite a bit to help Upshaw, and I'm sure many others. I once heard Marcel on a video after he was on the Bills. He said that Coach Saban controlled "every minute of your life" and would have to lighten up if he returned to the pros. When he was at Bama, I heard no stories of him challenging Coach Saban or acting out. I don't sense that he is a bad kid. I just hope he isn't content to have all that money in his pocket but I am not all that confident.

Bill from NYC
Maybe they're instead cleaning up. I think that they were actually better last year and were injured on defense down the stretch. The thing is, Saban coached teams really don't get worse. This team needs more pass rush but it looks like some of the LBs are coming back, and they seem to be sending in defensive backs on blitzes. Saban has been able to give some freshmen playing time already and they look very deep but we shall see.

GunnerBill
I see Bill's "if Saban had just had Brees he'd have won a Superbowl" line got another outing. Plenty of coaches who you can say that about IMO. Saban is certainly a genius college coach and a tremendous recruiter. He was JAG in the NFL, he knows it and he won't come back. Part of me would like to see him try but I think 'Bama is his last job. So far this season 'Bama and Clemson continue to look a class apart from what I have seen. Clemson's QB went out last night though. Could it even threepeat as the Championship game?

Plenty of coaches who you can say that about IMO. Yes, plenty of coaches could say that, but you are not understanding what Bill was referring to. When Brees became a free agent, that's the guy Saban wanted. Saban and the Dolphins would of had Brees if it wasn't for the stupidity of the Phins medical staff. Brees failed the Phins medical exam. Stop and think about that for a moment. If the Phins had cleared Brees shoulder, the Bills would have faced Brady and Brees twice a year for the past 10 years. GunnerBill
I understand that is who he wanted. CBF CBF, I didn't have complete faith in the Tide this year because they lost just so many great players on defense. But they are a totally different team this year. This offense is MUCH better than they were last year. I'm not kidding, they have 6 excellent running backs, great receivers, very good blocking and the best #2 quarterback in America. And of course, the best coach in the history of college football. I'm still not fully convinced about this team but Saban teams get better as seasons progress. And obviously, the Clemson loss was huge. I'm happy tonight. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clemson, Wash St, Auburn ..Things change rapidly but things are going well for the Tide right now. :) Coach Saban even said that this comment was a bit much and that he should have quit at just the word poison. The Tide has the best pair of safeties I have ever seen on a college team at the same time. Ronnie Harrison is a monster, and gets better each week. He is listed at 6'3"/215 but he plays stronger than most linebackers. And did you check out the true freshman DE Labryan Ray (#89)? If he stays healthy he is well on his way to greatness. The kid is tossing people around as he is FILLING IN for an injured Da'Shaun Hand. As I said, I expected a lot less from the defense and I'm liking what I'm seeing. Bill from NYC
Another great win today boys! Looked a little sloppy out there early on but regrouped nicely CBF It was a strange game imo. Yes, they were awfully flat in the first half but they are catching many much deserved breaks this season. The last 2 qbs the Tide faced were brand new, and Bryant Denney Stadium is NOT the place to start your career. Now, they play LSU after a bye and might even get Da Shaun Hand back in the lineup. The best teams they will play lie ahead. Is this team as good as last years? On defense, I am thinking no way, except the secondary. Is the offense better. Yes, I think they are better and much, much deeper. I am not going to talk any smack. There are several teams that I have a lot of respect for, but I can't say that any frighten me. It will be fun!
