I live in the Pittsburgh area. Most fans are 50/50 when it comes to Ben. Ben is not a very nice person behind the scenes here. He is banned from a lot of places in town because he felt he should not pay his check "because he is Ben". He got his act together with getting married but does not interact with his fans here much. Pittsburgh Steeler fans are a weird bunch anyways. Most are spoiled cry asses and when that team don't win, you will see those towels get tossed. Back in the 80's and early 90's Id go to games and the entire upper bowl would be empty. Buffalo has much more loyal fans. I see a ton of Steeler players in the casinos here, mostly late at night, playing blackjack. Wourlds and Harrison are great guys and that night is when I got to meet a young Ben. He was a !@#$....

I think some of this info is dated. He seems to have turned things around over the last 5 years and I have some friends who see him pretty regularly and friends that hang with his family, and my wife has had some interaction with his wife and mom, and everyone seems to have a pretty positive reaction to him.

Getting married and having kids really seems to have normalized him.

On a Pittsburgh radio station said he is not committing to returning next season and is contemplating if he wants to continue playing taking into account everything with his health, future health, family ,etc and wants to make sure its the right decision whichever way he ends up...

That would be devastating for Pittsburgh to lose him out of the blue...

As many a player has said before: "The minute you start thinking about retiring you should do it"

This might be leverage, wanting the Steelers to improve the OL or possibly make other changes such as depth at WR and RB, or OC - I haven't heard much about it but Haley looked like a boy coaching against men in the playoffs.

Roeth would have to repay his pro-rated signing bonus if he retires, I believe. That would be $18.4M, which is a lot of coins to take out of the family piggy bank.

OTOH if he doesn't have the fire in the belly, he should retire.

Card shows? I was hoping he could avoid more sexual assault cases.

Big Ben is now a good husband and daddy and Vick loves puppy dogs and takes them to puppy dog class.

I think it is as much about rings as money. I think he wants to Steelers to go and do for him what Belichick and Elway have done in recent years for Brady and Manning. Go and be aggressive in free agency get in guys who can help him make another Championship run.

I'm sorry but how exactly have the Patriots been aggressive in free agency? Hogan? Mingo? The Hoodie doesn't sign star players. He makes castoffs into stars. Edited by PromoTheRobot

Pretty much everyone on Sirius yesterday (including Farve) said that Ben will be back - he just went through a tough season that ended in a tough loss, so no one was surprised to hear him say he's going to step-back and take a look at things. In fact, said that's the smart thing to do. Tomlin also mentioned that this isn't the first time Ben has talked about stepping away...

IMO, he's back next year.

They were their last Superbowl year. Browner and Revis were signed to big FA deals (cleverly structured deals but good deals all the same) to shore up the part of the team that kept falling short.

I know that year was a bit of a one off but they did it to get over the hump.

steelers aren't really in a great cap situation either. bell, timmons, harrison, villaneuva all need contracts and they have 41 mil to sign those guys.

Of those O can see them letting Harrison walk. He is 38 and that's old for a LB

And he just as quickly dumped them. Browner declined immediately and Revis island is now a resort spot for any and all WR. (Scary how fast they both declined.)

Brady is also very unusual, I mean how many pro football players are NOT the major money maker for their family like he is. Brady & Giselle are BILLIONAIRES from her super modeling days. So in other words, unlike Big Ben wanting collect every last dollar, Brady can play for less because he doesn't need the money and play for the love of the sport.

Yea he did. Doesn't change the fact that when he broke with his usual method to go and get them he did it to gear up for a run (which when you have a top flight QB that is coming towards the end is absolutely the right play).

I think an even better example is when he signed Welker (giving up a 2nd and 7th round pick) and traded for Randy Moss for a 4th round pick for the 2007 season. That was loading up BIG TIME for Brady. Edited by PatsFanNH

Well you know what they say when you start publically talking retirement you already are done.

I can't blame him his body has been beaten up every year! I also think he has missed games do to injury the last 3 years? (I am positive the last 2 seasons.) he takes some nasty hits, every bit as nasty as the ones Cam Newton gets and he has been getting them for a lot longer time.

He is coming back. Here is why:

(1) Ben is a drama-queen. He simply wanted attention by hinting that he was "considering" retirement.

(2) Ben is not going to leave having lost to the Pats***

(3) Ben will make $65 million by playing the next three years. And in Haley's offense, he rarely gets hit.

Also, none of the Steelers fans are freaking out in PGH. This is mostly viewed as Ben being Ben.

Oh. Sure. Ben announces he'll contemplate retirement the same way he announces he's sick/concussed/depressed/suffering jet lag/might have to cut off a toe or two to make it onto the field each Sunday.

Put another way:

this....exactly.

But the Steelers should play it safe. Lets trade EJ for their 2nd. :)

It's clear he's sick of his "****" HC. He's questioned the guy's coaching ability as recently as this week.

He's got to be thinking if it's worth it to have to deal with Tomlin another year.

You mean he doesn't like CHEF! But I thought he was one of the best coaches in the NFL! (Sarcasm)

He's known for this. He talks up his injuries constantly so he can come back, and be the hero. This wouldn't be much different. Plus he missed out on the Super Bowl, yet he still found a way to weasel into the headlines this week.

So your saying if he was on the Pats he been traded by now for a comp 4th round pick lol.. (that wouldn't fly here)
