#Bills are zeroed in on Sean McDermott as their next HC. Could have something finalized in the next day or so.

Edit: Didn't say in this post, but great job Leroi!

Second Edit: Sal Capaccio

If Sean McDermott is new Bills HC, and it appears things are headed that way at the moment, keep hearing Mike McCoy could join him as OC.

Where is Leroi?

Reportedly Mike McCoy.

McDermott. McCoy. McBills.

Lets hope they are as successful as McDonalds.

#Bills HC search apparently ends where it started, w/ #McDermott. He nailed interview, but real interest in Keith Butler had been expressed.

Who?

Also for those who didn't see the other thread or the shoutbox - per Leroi this is whaley's guy and he sold the Pegulas on him. They did not meddle or override him. Just so we get the narratives correct

of course :flirt:

Lots of people thinking Watson and the Bills makes sense... Remember DW likes big, strong QBs. TT was a Rex guy. Don't think it happens

YardsPerPass.com @YardsPerPass 2h2 hours ago

I have no inside info... but just look at the QBs DW has drafted... EJ and Cardale. Then look at PIT... all bigger QBs

YardsPerPass.com @YardsPerPass 23m23 minutes ago

If it is McDermott you're gonna start seeing some people mocking Reuben Foster to the Bills

McCoy is a huge get too if he comes too. He was OC when Tebow won a playoff game. Let me repeat that... he won a playoff game w/ Tim Tebow

YardsPerPass.com @YardsPerPass 17m17 minutes ago

Kyle Orton threw for 3800 yards and 21 TDs in 2009 w/ McCoy as his OC in DEN

Who are they looking at for QB?

McCoy would be excellent. Someone that understand NFL passing game and hopefully Whaley defers to him when drafting the QB.

me too, his QB track record is not good.

McCoy as OC: anyone else thinking that bumps up odds on a chance at Phil Rivers? :o

well there was that rumor on facebook :D

Brees, Romo, Cutler, Cousins

I'll add my same disclaimer to this: Leroi dropped these names casually with no actual context. I take it as something the FO likely wants, but pieces would need to fall in place for it to be correct.

besides Cutler that list gets me excited .... just when I'm out they pull me back in !!!

Brees would be a the top for me, honestly never considered him. He will make the perfect mentor for Kelly with similar styles :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Does McDermott have a working relationship with Gus Bradley?

McCoy as OC

Bradley as DC

That would be sweet.

having former HCs to rely would be a huge plus. Dammit now I'm drinking the Kool-aid !!! better not screw this up Bills.

@nfldraftscout

Firing a defensive-minded coach to hire a defensive-minded coach. Usually see that go the other way.

I like this, shows that they are picking the best guy plus our D sucked so ...

He didn't want to move to LA from San Diego, why would he even consider buffalo.

Because LA represents heathen hedonism, Buffalo is just a colder SD :D

Leroi speculated this as well...

Leroi has some busts but when it comes to big news he is money, so good as gold in a couple yrs.

Oh god, not one of those.

At least he is not TraitorNick

Thank You, been saying for awhile Polian is massive overrated as a GM.

Won in Buffalo, Carolina, and Indy. 6 Superbowl appearances. Thats overrated? LMFAO! This might get the prize for most ridiculous thing Ive read in these threads. Was he three time Nfl executive of the year or was it four? Edited by TANK2

OK here is Chenelly and this may tie into jw's tweets about the "left field candidate" and the "Oh boy" and "Whaley lead search and Pegs final say" comments:

@anovakovsky80 Steelers defensive coordinator. Former player. Mentored by Dick LeBeau. Refused to interview until Pittsburgh is out.

Joe Chenelly @jchenelly 1h1 hour ago

@ty_boe He's on the record saying he'd run whatever it takes to win.

Joe Chenelly @jchenelly 1h1 hour ago

@ingram40 The narrative that ownership is now again with McDermott is true.

Joe Chenelly @jchenelly 1h1 hour ago

@doncosimano No. He won't leave Steelers for anything less than perfect situation, whatever that is to him.

Joe Chenelly @jchenelly 19m19 minutes ago

@Hogan8r I don't think so. He's legit, had a lot of success in Pittsburgh, former player, under Dick Lebeau.

Joey Porter !

We are totally keeping Gilmore then, right?

Likely not, I would say, and I'm a big Gilmore fan. McDermott runs a zone heavy 4-3 scheme and Gilmore, IMO, struggles a lot in zone, but is very strong in press man. No need to spend big bucks on a man corner for a zone scheme

TT and picks for Brees may make sense if NO is waiting until 2019 to make a run.

With a $37 mill dead cap hit for the Saints?

The Saints have $36 mill available right now under the cap, though that includes something like $16 mill for Brees. But they'd pick up $16 mill or so on the cap this year with Tyrod.

Can't see it.

I prefer a zone scheme myself as you do don't have to have super athletes to make it work. Also the players tend to be bigger which makes it better against the run and don't need to spy on a Running QB as they are facing the line of scrimmage. The one downfall is guys like Brady really carve Zones up. But maybe we can get him as our next QB B-) .

Top 7 scoring offense.

Kiss that goodbye with this hire and TT else where.

Top 16 yards offense. That matters too.

And the folks who did most of the scoring were the running attack. The passing offense was substandard.

And they couldn't score near the end of games when we needed it.

The offense was more impressive than the defense, but they were far from great.

McCoy as OC: anyone else thinking that bumps up odds on a chance at Phil Rivers? :o

Pretty sure the Chargers don't want to go into interviews for a new coach saying, "Oh, and we want to trade Rivers."

Potential coach: "Oh, trade Rivers, gotcha. Oh, hey, I just remembered a previous appointment, Excuse me."

John Butler to be DC.

With McDermott reported to be the leading candidate for the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching vacancy by The Buffalo News and his friendship and respect for Butler, a highly-regarded assistant coach for the NFL’s top-ranked defense, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Butler emerged as a strong option for the Bills’ defensive coordinator position should McDermott land the job.

McDermott has interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers’ job and also met with Bills owner Terry and Kim Pegula.

Butler has drawn praise for his work with the Texans’ second-ranked pass defense, coaching safety Quintin Demps, who has six interceptions to lead all NFL safeties, along with cornerbacks A.J. Bouye, Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson and an injured Kevin Johnson.

Butler interviewed for the 49ers’ defensive coordinator job last offseason, opting to stay with the Texans along with linebackers coach Mike Vrabel after being pursued by 49ers coach Chip Kelly.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien regards Butler, a former Penn State defensive coordinator, as a future NFL defensive coordinator and head-coaching candidate.

"John Butler is an excellent coach," O'Brien said. "John Butler, in my opinion, is destined for great things in this profession. I think he'll be a coordinator someday. I think he'll be a head football coach somewhere someday. Did a great job for us at Penn State and he's done an excellent job for us here as guys really rely on him.

But can McCoy coordinate a running game? He's a passing game specialist and that's the opposite of our strength.

This is an intelligent point and a question that deserves an answer. Unless he's bringing a QB, I hope he can also make the run game go.
