Anybody Have A Change Of Heart About Gilmore?

Again, shoulder tackling like that is actually more dangerous than proper form tackling. Don't think he was avoiding contact but he definitely showed lack of hustle a few times.

On that play when he used the shoulder tackle, he stayed on the ground and watched the receiver continue to run down the field.

He just stayed on the ground! He didn't get back up and pursue him!

I want to keep Gilmore, but he is not worth 15 million a year.

Steph is a top 15 corner but not top 5. He has flaws. I'd bring him back but not at the $ he was looking for.

Agreed 100% and I'm one of his biggest (only?) fans here. He's a bad tackler but a very good press man corner

It totally depends on who will be the HC and DC. And also depends on what we think of Tyrod, Woods, Zach Brown and Lorax. This isn't just a is he worth 10 or 11 or 12 million question. I also don't think it was a save my ass hit, it was just a bad play on a tackle that he has often made. He's very good. Someone will probably offer him a huge contract. It depends on what kind of D we play next year but I think we let him go.

I get it, Gilmore wants to stay healthy for a big contract somewhere else next season. Remember how bad Clements wanted out of Buffalo? We have seen this before.Even given the above, Gilmore (imo) is a disgrace and I truly do hope he moves on. A case could be made that his attempt at a "shoulder tackle" cost us a game with playoff implications, on Christmas Eve.I like when we fans disagree. It makes this board great and I learn from good dialogue. Can anyone explain to me how getting rid of Mario was good but losing Gilmore would be bad?My take is good riddance to both!

He was an embarrassment today. It looked to me like he has quit on the team. Good riddance.

Yeah, that's kind of the point I was getting at. Plays that put him in danger of injury (which happened by the way) and then shows lack of hustle when the play gets away from him.

The problem with people who take notice when he doesn't make a play is that it is too often ignored when he does make a play. My recommendation to Whaley is to sign the man and pay the man. I'm confident that my take on this issue will irritate you.

No, your takes never have irritated me. Sure, we disagree from time to time. If anything, I'm glad because of the fine, upscale dialogue.

Still, I stand firm wrt Gilmore. Imo he was a wasted pick. Hey I could be proven wrong down the road. Sometimes we are wrong with our opinions and sometimes we click. Btw, how is Spiller doing these days? ;):) :)

Bill. somehow I have a feeling I will hear your scream on the West Coast when we take a corner with our number 1 pick.

Yes, you will. This league comes at you all the time with 4 or 5 wide sets. Even Nick Saban says that he employs the nickel about 80% of the time in the SEC! The best corner on earth covers ONE receiver at a time.

I still believe in drafts which emphasize qbs, pass rushers and blockers. Are there exceptions? Yes but that is what I think of them as. Exceptions, unless a teams primary needs are met.

Didn't they both play most downs?

in the past yes. But in the fully abortion rex created it would be fine to switch them in. I'd be fine with the two of them going back and forth because Hughes is a pass rush specialist and Lawson can contain on the other edge.

But Hughes belong at 34de with a good week side linebacker behind him who can cover the run. Unfortunately, we don't have that. Rexs system sucks and does nothing to help any players except the ILB's who are pathetic

Nevermind top 10-15. Gilmore is around 20-30 in the league.

Some teams stay away from him because Darby is not as good....However, this doesnt mean Gilmore is good!

What are you going to say when when several teams offer him top 5 money? And no team offers him top 20-30 money?

I'm not saying he is playing great. He's frustrating. He's not top 5 because he makes too many mistakes guys in the top 5 don't make as much (all CBs get burnt and miss tackles). But he's an excellent CB. Probably 6-10.

Done. Out.

Guys, shoulder tackling is actually less safe than proper tackling. He was not playing to save his body. He just isn't very good at tackling. Still played decent in coverage.

No.
