Anybody Have A Change Of Heart About Gilmore?

Bill from NYC

Recommended Posts

I get it, Gilmore wants to stay healthy for a big contract somewhere else next season. Remember how bad Clements wanted out of Buffalo? We have seen this before.

Even given the above, Gilmore (imo) is a disgrace and I truly do hope he moves on. A case could be made that his attempt at a "shoulder tackle" cost us a game with playoff implications, on Christmas Eve.

I like when we fans disagree. It makes this board great and I learn from good dialogue. Can anyone explain to me how getting rid of Mario was good but losing Gilmore would be bad?

My take is good riddance to both!

Nope been saying it all year he is a very Good player and has been for years and this defense (no matter what it is or who is coaching it) will be worse off without him.

However i have also decided this team is not that close and there are some very big problems with it (wont say the areas cause dont want to Hijack the thread). So because of those problems i have changed my tone on re-signing him. Not because of the player itself but because I dont think they are built in a waynto commit long term to a top end CB.

He is an absolute piece of garbage. Show me one INT where he challenged a WR and stripped it out or fought for the ball. Not. Every INT of his was thrown right to him. His half assed tackles where he lowers his shoulder and the TE jumps over him or the WR bounces off him and runs upfield for another 15 yds. ****ty tackling, indecisive, meek, quiet, non-leader. Blah. See ya!!

Tyrod standing in there, taking big time shots when passing. I know it's his job, but when I see wimpy Gilmore afraid to tackle and avoiding contact time after time each game all year I find its disgusting and brutal. He's not a team player or an average corner. He's out of here and not worth the money. Cmon lets agree on this please.

Mario is having his 2nd poor season in a row, so I think it shows to be a good move. I think Gilmore is a good CB with a lousy DC. I think he could be valuable in a better defense. Not sure we have a replacement for him too.

I've just about always felt he was way over-rated. His body language on the field is that of a soft player who likes to be seen at the periphery of plays, instead of where the action is.

I fully understand that his leaving would create a big hole for us, but boy do I want him outta here.

I mean, there was that one where he basically ran the route for the defender and cut in front of him for the pick and almost took it to the house. Think that was Cincinnati?

Bobby makes a good point. This D isn't a corner away from being elite. It's missing a bunch of parts and investing in Gilmore might not be the smartest idea. Love the player (as you all know) and I'll always root for the guy because he's criminally underrated amongst this fanbase but maybe calling it quits isn't the worst idea.

The tackle attempt doesn't change anything. I pay my guys to cover first, the rest is gravy. I just hope we fire Rex into the sun and restore this defense to what it should be. Damn it, Tyrod deserves better, as does Shady and Sammy.

Bill, this game was filled with missed tackles by almost everyone on defense. Of course that Gilmore shoulder bump was a big play that was very costly. You may find it surprising but I don't that a top tier cover corner isn't the best of tacklers.

In my view Gilmore falls in the top fourth or third rankings at his position. If he hits the market he will reap a contract that will fall into the category of a bonanza. You may not place value on cover CBs but I do and so does the rest of the league.

You have been denigrating him since he was drafted because the position he plays doesn't fall into your value system. I disagree with how you rank the position in importance to other positions and I disagree how you rank him as a player.

If the Bills lose Gilmore to the market it will be create major void that will have to be filled. On this issue of Gilmore I haven't agreed with you from the beginning and I will continue to disagree with you.

The problem with people who take notice when he doesn't make a play is that it is too often ignored when he does make a play. My recommendation to Whaley is to sign the man and pay the man. I'm confident that my take on this issue will irritate you.

Agree completely Gilmore spends almost the entire game looking to avoid contact. Please just let him move on.

Bill. somehow I have a feeling I will hear your scream on the West Coast when we take a corner with our number 1 pick.

Again, shoulder tackling like that is actually more dangerous than proper form tackling. Don't think he was avoiding contact but he definitely showed lack of hustle a few times.

Not only would I replace him with a lower talent guy who actually has heart, but he also reminds me how I want a coach who holds players accountable. He's disgraceful and I can't imagine his teammates like playing with him based on how he actively avoids tackling.
