The fact that he has Crohn's and is an elite athlete is a testament to his fortitude and will to succeed. My father-in-law died from Chron's Disease. Henderson should sue the league. I would sue if I could not obtain an exemption from the specific rule. Seantrel should be advising the Bills (and therefore the League) of the medication(s) he's prescribed. Now we have no clue as to why they are suspending him - we never get the real truth, just the spin, but if it's because of medical marijuana he has a case. Has anyone seen a link where clearly stating that Henderson was specifically prescribed MJ by his Crohn's treatment team? If he doesn't have that, he has no suit. Even with it, he has little chance to win a suit as he knowingly took a banned substance, KNOWING he would get caught and face a 10 game suspension. What happens when the NFL parades all of the top Crohn's specialists onto the stand and asks them how many times they have prescribed MJ to their Crohn's patients. And what about his own doctors? Will they say that this form of therapy is the only one outside of widely accepted multi-drug therapy for treating acute Crohn's in this particular patient? Other NFL players have been treated successfully without MJ. This just seems like he continues to smoke of his own free will: he clearly knew the consequences and it didn't matter to him. He's smoking most of his life--before he had Crohn's, one should suspect. If he says the reason he smokes weed now (as opposed to all of the other test-positives over the years)---fine, who cares? Whatever works for him. But I don't see why the Pegulas would keep him. He's a fringe player who will never comply with this NFL rule. Nothing could be more obvious. Would MUCH rather have the players using pot instead of alcohol to wind down or anything else for that matter But the beer sponsors probably would be upset.. Can't have people smoking the herb cause they won't drink as much.. Can't have that can we Na.. just keep the players on pain killers and let them hit the booze.. However, a good lawyer could drum up a pretty good case on the civil rights basis, and overturn the CBA and the NFL's policy here. Medical mj might be the right treatment for him. Perhaps an Independent Medical Opinion (IMO) should be used by the NFL in such cases. (I borrowed that term from my professional career, where a union contract I was familiar with had various roles for IMO's) I think such a standard could be fair to all concerned.
