Watkins absent for start of voluntary workouts

I agree chemistry isn't a concern. It's frankly that you want the studs on the team to be leaders of the other guys too. I think there are plenty of signs to date showing Sammy is just a really good player. He's just not the guy that's out there with his team every chance he gets pushing them to be better too.

For those that mention Bruce, I believe his lack of leadership is why he's always given second tier billing when talking all time DE goats. Reggie White who always gets mentioned ahead of Bruce much like Ray Lewis, Ronnie Lott are Goat listed because of talent AND the fact they raised the level of play from the guys around them too.

So be it. The team still needs to find 'that' guy. Maybe he's on the roster. Maybe he's not.

Ok, I get the general point of the argument but this is just conditioning drills...I don't think it's that big of a deal

Is a linebacker core like an apple core? Does it have seeds? Or is it more like the core of the earth (which is seedless)?

so you have been ?

Sammy aint showing up unless he gets his 10 targets

and ya can't get the targets unless ya show up.

Simple math.

He's hanging with Johnny & Josh

has to be.

Bad look for Sammy. It's voluntary but it's about being with the guys and building chemistry.

yep, see Jumbalaya's post !

Everyone showed up but him. Hes supposed to be growing as a leader in the locker room. Bad look

agreed kdiggz,

sore thumb play, playa.

Only a bad look to those who want to B word about ****.

untrue.

I don't care if he has other priorities such as gambling. all i care about is what he puts on the field.

But i could guess his team mates might wonder about all that leadership chatter he started up last year.

Not a leadership move in my opinion not even close. opposite nearly

Sammy knew that posting the photo would bring out all the hot takes from the keyboard army. I hope he's reading this thread with a huge sh*t eating grin on his face.

yep i am sure Robert Woods is just thrilled to block for him

Sammy is so selfish.

“We tried to change up a little this year, get Sammy involved,” Boyd said, laughing. “We appreciate him coming out here. The weather’s beautiful and we’ve got a bunch of kids.”

Boyd’s fourth annual Youth Football Fundamentals Camp was held at Greenville’s Caine Halter YMCA, with kids ages 6 to 16 in attendance, and Boyd enjoyed imparting lessons to the youthful assemblage.

“No matter how big or busy guys are, or what you’re doing, it’s always good to come back and show the kids that you care,” Watkins said. “These kids need for athletes to come back and not just coach football, but show them that it’s all about giving back.

Now, now...many of us actually enjoy having our noses rubbed in the easy money he makes for playing a kid's game.

Let that $6500 stack ride Sammy!....you absolute WHALE!!

What a stupid concept "Voluntary Practice"

Hockey has like 40 optional skates a year of which you hear 0 times who attended and who didn't

Only in football where players are essentially viewed as chattel is this an issue

The only good thing that can come out of these practices is no injuries

not so & I think you know it. Appearances do matter. We can quibble about the degree, but they matter. He "should" be there. It really is that simple.

too bad he isn't doing it in WNY.

Hockey teams have like 80 games a year and you hardly ever hear anything about who played/attended/won/lost or didn't .....because it's hockey.

Your favorite team needed to trade for Bennett because their other TE landed in jail for murder and Sammy is the bad guy for going to a casino. Got it.

Doesn't seem so easy when you are railed on for taking your kids to disneyland, and not immediately returning for a voluntary workout after hanging out with friends at a casino and helping out at a kids youth camp.

Far be it for a 21-22 year old kid to irrationally lash out for said criticism because he isn't doing exactly what those fans of the "kids game" would like to see. But these "adults" sure do keep holding it against him, it really shows they have the moral high ground.

I agree with that too... It's not even close to a big deal.

As a few others pointed out- 'Disappointing' summarizes it well. You want to see your franchise superstars leading the team. Sammys not... It's Unfortunate they'll have to look elsewhere for that characteristic... End of story.

Like when you're at the beer store hoping for Molson Golden, but all they have is Molson Canadian.

They finally nailed Chandler on a murder rap, huh?

Oh relax. Can we who don't have $6500 (in chips) to flash on social media not have a little fun at Sammy's expense?

Besides, as Sammy himself said, gotta teach these young kids how it's done....now they can go to his twitter/fb sites and see how.

6500 should be enough to fly up for the voluntary workouts, he should be landing anytime.

Sure you can, but I can just imagine this snowballing into a huge deal from people who won't be as lighthearted about it.

Simple solutions :

1. If your going to talk about becoming a leader make sure your going to lead by example.

2. Don't talk about it just be about it and show up when you damn well please and ignore the hate mail.

3. When you suffer another soft tissue injury this summer don't get pissed and spout of at the fan base when they bring up your casino trip.

Can't have it both ways.

He certainly can.

1. We have yet to see how he will lead once camp actually starts. You don't know what he has said to his teammates to excuse his absence.

2. Same as above. Ignoring the hate mail is easier said than done, but yes he should ignore it. The point was that it isn't crazy for a 21-22 year old kid to lash out at people questioning every aspect of his character.

3. This is assuming he doesn't work out on his own, and do his own conditioning. Of course the time he missed a workout was certainly the cause.
