If La'el Collins drops do Bills take him?

Perspective: this is a young man's livelihood we're talking about.

If he's not a suspect, then he's been unjustly prevented from millions of dollars that he worked his tail off to earn.

You may not agree with the salaries paid to athletes etc., and that's fine. It doesn't make it any less true that this investigation cost him millions.

Now, if he's not clean in all this, then I have no empathy for him at all.

Goodell is the problem: he's a coward, unimaginative, and backward looking. If this guy is innocent (most likely scenario) it costs him north of $10 million. Thats obscence. There should be a clause which says that if a material event happens x days/months predraft, then at the commissioner's or a committee's discretion the draft rules may be modified for that individual. Its too risky and makes these guys too vulnerble to dirty tactics , like what was tried on Winston. In his case it was ongoing so it didn't have much effect. In collins case it was brand new. His case should be on review, and pending further investigation he could be reinstated for the supplemental draft or 2016. Goodell is an ass

stop - Yes, all social ills are Goodell's problem, Ferguson, Baltimore, Global Warming, ISIS, etc., yup, all on Goodell—he should have a clause in the process to cover all these, and every other unanticipated world problem that affects the draft. He is so myopic.

Take him

Any chance he is represented by the firm pegula owned and we have the inside track to him.

He's represented by Deryk Gilmore of Priority Sports and Entertainment. I'd bet the Saints have the inside track just because he's a Louisiana boy and they do have a need at OG, unless he's dead set at playing at OT.

That being said, every scouting report I read on him stated he's best to play at OG, but could still play RT in a pinch. Unfortunately I think the NYS income tax situation will eliminate the Bills from contention. Miami is also supposed to take a hard run at him per their beat writers

Dirty tricks on Winston? The timing of that lawsuit has alread been explained. Keep rolling on though....

Goodell and the NFL have no duty at all to a guy who is being questioned about the the murder of his child and the mother of his child. He understood the rules of the draft and accepted them. When he wasn't taken in the first round, he, through his agent, announced to all 32 teams that if they didn't draft him in the next 2 rounds, he would not sign as a later pick. Then, surprise, no one picked him.

There is no way the NFL should change the rules for this kid. He could have been drafted in the 4th or 5th easily. If he's any good, he'll make his tens of millions. If he's the next Robert Gallery, he won't.

No one here really cares if this one particular guy gets a break. Why would they? This is just more irrational (and typical) dumping on the league and Goodell.

Just watch the games.

The agents statement was fair, but was there a statement on the other issue? Isn't that normal?

I cant fault a guy for not making a public statement about a murder case the police want to talk to him about before he even gets to sit down with police.

Of course, but I thought the other day he indicated that it was "too cloudy" for them?

if hes cleared the clouds are gone and you are looking at a first round talent at league minimum. the only teams not interested would be the ones that dont think they have any shot.

Either that or they will begin production on the La'El Collins 30 for 30. :)

If he is cleared, and if the Bills somehow land him - it would be an unbelievable stroke of luck. They had no first round pick and they'd still end up with a first-round talent. In fact, the amount of luck that would be required seems to put Buffalo sports teams out of the running, but who knows.

The worm has turned! For the most part.

Imagine that...a starting 5 of:

Glenn-Collins-Wood-Miller-Henderson

or

Glenn-Miller-Wood-Incognito-Collins

It sure would be. But I can see that he'd probably rather stay in his home state and I'm guessing he grew up a Saints fan, so double bonus for signing with them.

I've seen nothing about him being the father. You have link otherwise?

The rumor has always been that he was possibly the father of the child. He has denied that he was the father of the child. I believe he said he hadn't spoken to her since September.

Pretty much the case here. Goodell and the NFL in general are far too dogmatic with their rules. Much like zero tolerance policies being dogmatic with rules without taking into account context or circumstance is dumb and doesn't work.

The NFL Should have some sort of discretion when it comes to these issues. In this case they should allow Collins to enter the supplemental draft. Give teams more time to sort out the situation and get info on it, while allowing teams to assess his worth through the bidding process. Instead you are kind of screwing up the kids future because of speculation and unwillingness to act.
