Dude, you seriously need to come back... not having this Roll Tide SEC BS at the top of the thread list!

Personally I think Ryan Day is in serious jeopardy after 2024 if he can't beat Xichigan... and I am also very concerned about the state of QB play as well going forward. When the playoff expands is when we will know what's what... I just hope that they get the QB right.

Reminds me of Clemson 2019. Big lead early, controlled the game,  A million ways they could have won, huge game changing calls by the officials, giant QB performance, failed chance at the end.

I hope you return soon and all is well! OH............

Is there any chance that Brown upsets McCord in the QB competition?

There is always a chance, but I sincerely doubt that Day will break from the Meyer way of committing to a QB and sticking with him... it would take a monumental effort by Brown or injury to change the depth chart IMHO. I have seen this movie too many times where even if the QB performs better, the established backup gets the job (see the disastrous Barrett decision where Burrow played better but Barrett was handed the job).

Gameday baby LFG!!!  Not entirely sure what to expect this year. The roster looks stacked but the QB is just a huge question mark. Hopefully Day will continue his streak and develop a fourth consecutive new starter into a first-round draft pick. I'd also like to see the defense take a significant step forward after dropping a major bag on Jim Knowles the year before last. And of course The Game has become even more of a pressure cooker as TUN looks like it has its best team in years.  Can't wait -- fight the team across the field and Go Bucks!!

Quick thoughts on Wk 1.

  • Defense looks incredible -- DLine made a huge difference, Sonny Styles living up to the hype at safety is great to see.
  • McCord looked stiff -- I don't think he played badly, but he needs to loosen up. Playcalling didn't help.
  • Playcalling was weak -- way too conservative for this much talent at the skill positions. Open it up!
  • Chip Trayanum should be RB1 -- I know there's a lot of investment in Henderson, but Chip looks different out there.
  • Stover was a menace at TE -- love to see it.

Went to the game today vs Youngstown. First time watching specifically Marvin Harrison Jr for whole game. Holy cow he runs some sloppy routes. His talent is undeniable and he'll dominate college just with that along with size and speed but he needs to work on a lot before getting to the pros. I figured he would be pretty polished with his dad helping him out.

Big week this week! Some notes...

- McCord has looked pretty cool under pressure, so this will be a huge test whether or not this carries over once he gets top level rushes in his face. He's definitely looking more Burrow-like which is a positive.

- The offensive staff needs to do a better job in allowing McCord to spread the defense out in their playcalling... far too much short stuff which can be dangerous.

- Is it me or are the RBs not much of a speed threat outside and are very north-south oriented? I don't think that Notre Dame will be too worried about covering outside runs, which could be an issue.

- The defense has played great and has been quite sharp, which is VERY encouraging. If the offense has long stretches of little production, the defense could be  huge factor in keeping it close enough to pull out a victory.

Terrible choke job by Notre Dame.

Everyone is talking about the 10 men on the field blunder, but NOBODY is talking about the screen pass on second down by ND... had they just run the ball instead of passing to run clock, TOSU wouldn't have had enough time to win that game. ND was literally running the ball down our throats in many instances. That one play cost them the game long before the last few seconds.

Well, time to revisit my notes before the TOSU/ND game:

McCord has looked pretty cool under pressure, so this will be a huge test whether or not this carries over once he gets top level rushes in his face. He's definitely looking more Burrow-like which is a positive.

McCord played like Joe Burrow in the end, that same sort of cold calculated delivery, and what a time to do it. He proved a lot last night.

- The offensive staff needs to do a better job in allowing McCord to spread the defense out in their playcalling... far too much short stuff which can be dangerous.

Finally we saw what can happen when Day allows McCord to sling it, and boy did he sling it when we needed it! Could Day have been holding things back for this game? Interesting thought.

- Is it me or are the RBs not much of a speed threat outside and are very north-south oriented? I don't think that Notre Dame will be too worried about covering outside runs, which could be an issue.

Although it wasn't an issue, the RBs still are playing north-south and not too many plays went outside for the backs. Honestly the emergence of Chip Trayanum was exciting- he plays with juice and more quickness, which is a dynamic that needed. He could be special.

- The defense has played great and has been quite sharp, which is VERY encouraging. If the offense has long stretches of little production, the defense could be  huge factor in keeping it close enough to pull out a victory.

Well, the defense did its job in pass defense, but the run defense was not good... far too many runs by all of the ND backs which could have been catastrophic but fortunately Hartman wasn't up to the challenge.

The play before that on first down they chose to pass and not run.

Both of those plays were terrible play calls. The Irish deserved to lose for doing that.

It was all a blur in the end... my wife already was saying "this game is over" and I'm like (in my Belushi voice)....

"IT'S OVER??? WHADDYA MEAN IT'S OVER???" 😆

I truly hate going to god forsaken west Lafayette.

As an IU grad, I can attest that nothing good has ever happened in West Lafayette. Except perhaps the birth of Axl Rose. The whole place smells like cow turds. You probably don’t care, but Incould deliver a 10 minute rage tirade on that bastid Brian Cardinal right now.

BTW: Welcome back.

Not at PUke. They’re bad at football this year. If OSU gets past PSU next week, then they’ll win easily until the showdown up north.

Ugh we will see. That place is kryptonite and our OL is 🗑️

The timing of this particular road game is truly impeccable.

How about angry Ryan Day though?  I think he’s actively fighting against the complacency that led to the road losses here that plagued Cooper, Tressel, and Meyer.

I never thought I'd say this but I missed Sean Clifford.  Drew Aller has the arm but he's inaccurate and has a lot to learn.  Love the defense of Penn State.  Too bad the offense isn't quite there.

Penn State really knows how to destroy 5 star QBs...and get scrappy 2 star QBs to play with moxie.  McGloin, McSorley, Clifford >>> Hackenberg & Allar.  Pribla may be in that former camp too....just disapointing.

Strange part with Allar is that he isnt bad.  He has ALL the tools.  He is poised and confident.  He doesn't throw interceptions.  He is just inaccurate (thus far) and has no good receivers.  Dare I say he needs a Josh Allen type of turn..

Tough game - OSU just had more playmakers on offense.

With all the frustrations watching McCord's week-to-week and quarter-to-quarter development, the OL's shocking struggles on run blocking, and the injuries on both sides of the ball... one could be forgiven for not noticing that this season has strong 2002 vibes.
