A Few Thoughts About The Game

1) Here is the bottom line.....there are no better fans than us. It isn't close. Make no mistake, people know this. Fans from other teams look at us and know what we go through. There were fans laughing today when the situation looked grim. But tell me, how f&^%$&*g great was it to wind up on top against a team with some talent and a smug coach? These people stopped laughing.

2) Sorry to say this, but the Raiders were running succesfully against Merriman. There is no point in denying this. That said, I think that he is going to be a dominant LB on this football team. How great is that?

3) Very disappointing play by McKelvin on the first play of the second quarter when the receiver just took the football from him. At some point, the Levy/Jauron cancer (and yes, I am calling McKelvin a Buffalo Bills cancer) will be chopped off.

4) Go ahead.....compare Poz to Barnett. There is no logical comparison. Wow, this man can play football! I would take him on my football team any day of the week.

5) Here is the thing about my man Dareus.....The kid bit on a couple of screens. I understand this. He is a rookie and this is to be expected. My point is that without him, we would hve been slaughtered. I love the way this kid plays football. PLEASE forget the stats.

6)The TD run by Fred Jackson was about as nice a run as I have ever seen by a Buffalo Bills football player not named OJ.

7) I am going to make a statement. D. Nelson is going to be a great

receiver. I like his potential more than that of Stevie Johnson, or at least as much.

8) I will do it. Props go out to Spiller. He went down WAY too easy more than once, but he played well today.

9) I will also concede that Bell played well today. So did Levitre. They were quite the pair. Even when Fitz threw the pick, they played their positions played well. That bad pass was all on Fitz.

10) Speaking of Fitz, consider me of the opinion that here is no qb better suited for this particular football team right now. This man can play football, and I really appreciate this.

11) I want to say more bad things about McKelvin, but I'm not going to ruin a beautiful day of being a fan of the Buffalo Bills football team.

12) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Raiders' RB's averaged 4 YPC. Not great WRT league-wide average, but great for the Bills, especially against a quality running team like the Raiders.

Good points on most but i take exception with a few:

McKelvin didn't play particularly well, but sometimes, the other guy across from you just has a hell of a game, and that's what happened today. I'm not excusing McKelvin, but the Raiders WR played great today. He displayed some excellent hands and body control to come up with some of those catches.

Spiller didn't "go down too easily." Huff tripped him up, which is a tackle no one can break. The other time he was smacked in the backfield the second he got the ball. His other plays he looked very good.

Good comments.

I do think Bell and the o-line deserve a little more respect for how they handled both the run and pass blocking. In particular I note how well the Bills have been running to the left side of the o-line in the last two games.

12) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will add:

- Good play calling on the O side of things even when we were down by 18. Also, fantastic execution led by Fitzy.

- Byrd seems to be improving in run support. He was in places I did not expect

- Our O today masked a pretty poor pass D. I am not sure what the problem is . We seem to have the talent.

- Pretty good game management today which goes hand in hand with the O play calling. No obvious coaching flaw jumps to mind which was quite opposite to the multiple 'wtf' moments I would have in any Jauron-coached game

- This team did NOT give up and kept coming back.

I don't expect us to win next week but I want to see a well played game and a good honest fight. The media has started giving us some love in line with our gutsy performances. Go Bills !

Merriman has done nothing these first two weeks to make me believe this. He's basically been invisible and that's a primary cause of the lack of pass rush from the defense.

We played two of the top rushing teams in the league. Our entire MO was to stop the run. Say what you will about Merriman's performance, but stop the run we did.

Let's see what type of pass rush we can generate when it is top priority, coming up this week!

So, it sounds like we might need to draft a DB early next year?

Bah! Beat me to it! Yes, if there's anything Bill would love...it's having this post be in any way responsible for drafting a DB in any round higher than the 4th.

And, in any event, I think we have our new, young potential corner replacements already starting to make some noticeable plays. Williams, Searcy and Rogers are doing well. McKelvin has 1(one) game to show some improvement, or, perhaps it's time to put Corner out there until Williams is ready to start. IMO, it's just a matter of time, reps and proving they can be consistent.

So far, the coaches have had to get on these new guys for being too aggressive(going for picks, intercepting Hail Marys)....instead of for not knowing WTF is going on. Major difference.

Agreed on all points, Bill.

McKelvin will eventually be replaced. I know what you mean by that "cancer". How many more years are on his rookie contract? Id bet Buddy is just playing it out for now.

This to me was the best part of the game. I watched the game on TV, but at times even through that the raw energy in the stadium was overwhelming. I think it took a game like this, at least for me personally, to realize how starved as a fan I've felt for the last decade. I'm just so used to watching them buckle that it has become a habit to hope for the best but deep down expect and be prepared for the worst. But I never felt like that today, even when they were down at the half. It was easily the best Bills game I've seen in a decade--I'm still in awe. I love everything about where this team is at right now, despite the flaws. Edited by Jack Straw

I just don't think Mckelvin was that bad. When a QB throws a perfect pass and the WR makes a spectacular catch I just don't blame the DB. Mckelvin actually had good coverage most of the day. Wilson was the one that should have made the play on the long TD.

I also don't think our run defense was bad at all. McFadden is a stud. The Bush TD was terrible, but I thought we contained Run DMC for the most part. The pass coverage against him was worse than the run coverage.

Can't say enough about D Nelson and Chandler. Wow. Just making play after play.

Our line played good for the a second game in a row. Fitz's ability to read a defense pre-snap and throw in less than two seconds is downright remarkable. It's not like he has a lot of time back there. There were only a couple plays when he had a lot of time. That said, if they can do this, because he and Freddy are so good at making something out of little that we can succeed. Not only succeed, but scored 40 points a game in two games. Amazing.

CJ had a very great game for his touches. He's looking better and better.

Chan can coach. I'm still undecided about George Edwards but Chan can coach, both as an offensive mind and as a motivator. This is a different team.

People may not want to hear it or believe it but Buddy Nix has been assembling a kind of player with almost every signing. And it makes a difference in this team and its make-up. A lot of players that may have been available that fans wanted us to sign are not that kind of player. We have a tough, smart team, for the first time in a long time.

I would have to agree with that, what an incredible game, I'm still wiped out.. Only possible way it could've been better for me was if we were playing Miami.

All good points, as well as the OP. What I really came away with from this game is, once again, how hard Fred Jackson runs. He simply REFUSES to allow the first tackler to take him down, even if he looks totally wrapped up. Plays look dead in the backfield and Freddy will fight like a beast to get a few yards out of it.

What was amazing was that they stopped the run in the second half (Pass defense was a complete joke as Campell was completing every single pass in the 2nd half). Not sure if the Bills made an adjustment or if the Raiders chose to not run the ball. Even after the Bills scored the TD on the opening drive of the 2nd half, the Raiders were still up by 11 and it would have been prudent to continue running the ball.

- Our O today masked a pretty poor pass D. I am not sure what the problem is . We seem to have the talent.

There was absolutely no pass rush today. They feared McFadden so much that they let Campbell sit in the pocket and shred our secondary to pieces. The Bills are committed to stopping the run and have done a good job in the two games and have forced the QB to beat them. Today, our offense was better than theirs and hence the win.

I have been saying this for a while. Nelson is a winner and knows how to win ball games. All he does on the field is make plays. He is our Hines Ward...Unassuming, but does his job. He is a clutch player and I think he is Fitz's go to guy on 3rd downs..Definitely has the football "IT".

Campbell had a very good game. IMO, if we had to play them again we would play the exact same defense, and there is no way he completes as many passes, especially the bombs. He made a ton of very good throws. Obviously 35 points is way too much to give up. But Campbell was throwing out of his head all day, all the way up to the great Hail Mary he threw. He isn't normally going to do that, and I I don't think he's a bad QB.
