Can we discuss our premium defensive draft picks?
BobbyC81 replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall
Despite all the moves made to fortify the defensive line, the key IS Star and the team needs to have a better sub, both for when Star is playing and especially when he isn’t. Star will turn 32 next month so it’s also time to acquire a future replacement. The Bills also lack a thumper LB. Edmunds and Milano are both great for the idea that the NFL is a passing league, but when they face a team with a strong running game, they’re not as effective. -

I miss the glorious days of Ritchie Incognito. He definitely was a guy to go to war with, until he took the war outside the stadium. -
A Few Thought about the Jets Game, in no particular order
BobbyC81 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Davis had those incredible plays last season when Josh scrambled and hit him at the sideline. With Brown let go, I’m sure we all figured it was to get him more involved. Hope to see him more going forward. -
11/14/21 Postgame Thread: Bills at Jets
BobbyC81 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, it was like the Bills coaching staff got on TBD for suggestions. The return of the WR runs. Moss in backfield on passing downs. Gilliam playing and also in on passing downs to support pass protection. Diggs and Davis made some big catches. Anybody know if Beasley was dinged? I was wondering why Davis saw more action finally. Total team win. Wonder how often a team’s secondary, with 5 starters, all get a turnover. Plus, 4 different players scoring a rushing TD. With a win, we can laugh that right after Spero Dedes says “Tommy Doyle in at tackle” that his man blasts past him to sack Josh. -
I agree on Williams. I want to give the coaches the benefit of the doubt but they seemed to handle Yeldon the same way. Every time he played, he ran hard, showed some moves and speed and was good as a receiver out of the backfield. Instead they keep running out guys like these schmos. Williams doesn’t have much of a resume but when he played in the last regular season game of last season, like Yeldon, he ran hard and was very productive.

I’ve seen similar issues in following the Golden State Warriors in the last few seasons. Even in their record-breaking 73 win season, they’d come out flat and look horrible. However, the length of a basketball game would allow them time to right themselves and even result in easy victories. The Bills don’t have that luxury in a football game. The NBA seasons are much longer so it would make some sense for the Warriors to not be at their peak for every game. After the success of a couple championships, they found it hard to get up for regular season games vs teams at the bottom of the standings. Again, you can easily make up for a couple of bad losses in an 82 game NBA season. The Bills don’t have that luxury in a now 17 game season as yesterday’s debacle leaves them only a half game ahead of New England in their division. Warriors coach Steve Kerr would respond to questions about why his team had terrible starts and/or terrible games by saying “they’re millennials. They have a tough time staying focused.” I don’t know if that applies to this Bills team but they sure didn’t play their best game. Did they take the Jags lately? Maybe, but, as heavily discussed, the O-Line just seemed overmatched.

That is true but he also has only 4 receptions. They may have decided that Roberts wasn’t worth keeping around as a return specialist for the money he wanted but it doesn’t make sense when you then stop using an offensive weapon because you moved him into that role. The lowly Texans though came to the same realization with Roberts when he wasn’t producing at an All-Pro level.

I hear you. I called in sick after each Super Bowl loss.

Yes, think about what Brady used to do every game. The Bills rarely touched him because the ball was gone quickly.

Bradley Gelber @BradleyGelber Something I don't think that has been talked about enough this season, has been Josh Allen protecting the football. He only has 3 INT and 0 lost fumbles to go along with his 20 TDs through the first 7 games. Continued growth from QB1. 1:46 PM · Nov 5, 2021·Twitter Web App It’s like the announcer saying a kicker has made X field goal attempts in a row.

Yeah, I was looking at the team’s stats yesterday and was surprised to see he had only 3 rushing attempts.

There were many times last season that Josh had forever to throw that I would rewind to see how much time he had. On those plays he had between 7 to 9 secs back in the pocket. The pass blocking was awesome. This season, I’m not sure if I’ve seen one of those instances. The pass protection has been a problem all season and some of us have been criticizing the empty backfield. There was one game a few weeks ago where Miss was in the backfield a lot on passing downs and Gilliam also was being used as an additional blocker. Why didn’t they do that today when clearly the protection was a problem? I know Moss got hurt but they hadn’t had him in there prior to that. Was Gilliam even active? It was a huge positive when the free agents Feliciano and Williams resigned. Now it looks like poor spending.

Trubisky to covid 19 list; Davis Webb elevated from PS

Remember that last season’s MVP, Rodgers has tested positive and is missing Sunday’s game. -
Saints need a QB. Payton did wonders with Winston. 😏
-
Considering that Pete Carroll keeps trying to make them a running team, Metcalf might really be something in an offense where he was featured. They need a monster at center who is the rock of the offensive line like Star is for the defense. There is a lot of criticism of the Bills guards but I also see Morse frequently getting pushed back into Josh’s face.

I agree. They likely would’ve made the same decision that Mahomes wasn’t ready and we had Tyrod and Peterman. They still would’ve made the change to Peterman and then when he faltered, they may have gone to Mahomes or back to Tyrod. Then in 2018, Mahomes would’ve been more ready than Josh was but the talent around him would likely be the same. The whole roster wasn’t ready to be a contender until last season.

A few thoughts about the Titans game, in no particular order
BobbyC81 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
On one play that sticks in my memory, the Titans had only 3 D-linemen, with Landry positioned near the edge, who was probably rushing. They ran a stunt and Landry got thru to sack Josh. Meanwhile, Williams is by himself near the line of scrimmage looking around for someone to block. I also noticed Williams a couple of times diving to try and get a hand on a rusher already running free. Same with Brown. -

Yes, Josh is so good at throwing on the run to the right, I’d have rather seen them run that. Being outplayed in the trenches and running a QB sneak near the goal line was just dumb. -
I guess this came from his time with Riverboat Ron.

I also watched the Niners/Arizona game and I thought it was bad with the flags. Then I watched this game.
