Breaking: Von Miller to bills, 6 year , 120 million
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Wonder to if part of the reason he came to Buffalo is knowing they use a deep rotation on the D line which is good news for a 30 something year old player. Fans here don't like it, but I'm sure the older players do. -
Breaking: Von Miller to bills, 6 year , 120 million

Can recall Monday morning reading the Bills sign McKenzie for $8 mil, by Tuesday morning when contract detail came out it was $4 mil. Expect the same here. This is the first free agent the Bills ever signed that my wife knew right away who he was. She's a Dancing With the Stars viewer! -
Bills sign OJ Howard to 1-year deal
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
They can use Doyle in that role. As long as both tackles stay healthy and likely will add a 4th tackle anyway, can use Doyle for blocking. May even told him, catch 200 passes a day from JUGS machine so you're not just an obvious running play threat. But also could see them drafting a TE late and move to PS for this season. -
Austin Hooper Cut By Browns
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to MarlinTheMagician's topic in The Stadium Wall
TE take time to develop, very few rookie TE's do well. Better to let another team draft him, let him develop fr 4 years then sign him when they let him go. Granted you're not going to get the best talent as the Kelse's and Gronk's of the world won't become free agents, but the Bills need a #2 TE so that's fine as there will always be Hoopers and Howards out there. -
Bills do not tender Justin Zimmer
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree, likely sign him to a vet min contract compared to $2+ mil for the tender. Small chance he signs elsewhere, but not a big loss if it were to happen. With the injury unlikely anyone would sign him. -
Cody Ford revival under Kromer?

I also think they will draft a guy who can play center or guard. That gives them Morse's replacement and eliminates the issue you mention. -
Yeah but next year cap takes a big jump due to new TV contract. Ideally they wouldn't have done this, but with the cap dropping last year due to Covid and this year barely above the 2019 level, has been down alot all over the league. Does anyone know on Spotrac at the top it says "Current contract" Is that what he just signed today or that isn't yet updated? It says 2 year contract, but then more years below are shown, assume for the restructure?? Wish they'd list the year signed next where it says Current Contract. Has there been any details on Milanos restructure? All I've read is "most of his salary has been converted" Again not sure if Spotrac is showing pre or post adjustment??

Bills converting Matt Milano salary to signing bonus

Yes I also do. Beasley was better against zone than McKenzie was, but against man McKenzie was better due to speed. You can teach him how to find the open spots and sit down, but you can't teach speed. Will he be 100% as good, maybe not, but think it can down to either keeping Beasley or McKenzie and of the two think I'd rather have McK at this point. And admittedly as of now they still have both but do think he will be gone soon. I'm of the opinion like many he was asked to take a fairly large pay cut, he said no and they gave him permission to seek a trade. Also think he may have some desire to leave too. I suppose it's also possible that in seeking a trade teams told him yes we'll trade for you, but we then want to cut your contract in half or told him we'll wait until the Bills cut you and offer you a contract for $3 to $4 mil or so. If that's the case, then maybe he does at the 11th hour agree to a pay cut and stays. But if I were to bet money, I'd take he gets cut or traded today! -
Cole Beasley given permission to seek trade
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Your forgetting Stevenson. While he didn't show much as a rookie nor was he given many chances, he now has a year experience under his belt and likely will be given the opportunity to win that spot.. You could fill him in as #6 and Kumerow, #5 Doubt Beasley will be here thought so still will be short one, likely filled in the draft. Also may depend what happens yet a TE. If they sign a mid level dependable TE, can see them going more with 2 TE sets, thus reducing the WR needs some. Think they will still sign either a mid level TE or WR and draft a WR fairly early, maybe 2nd round. -

Could happen, he's on a cheap rookie contract so I'm sure they're going to try. -

Was Tyrod the one who ran out of bounds fairly uncontested, short of the 1st down marker on 4th down. -
Levi Wallace gone to the Steelers on 2-year deal
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
They don't have money to sign FA in all positions, so IMO would be better to spend money in free agency on line as that position takes longer for rookies to develop. So they could have signed Wallace for what you call low end starter money, not sure the Bills would or have that amount of money laying around. If they had likely would mean no money left to try and sign an edge rusher. So I'm fine with drafting a CB in round 1 and not worried that one won't be available when they pick who'll fit their scheme. They could also trade down too if needed. -

In that order too, then interior lineman in 3rd, ideally one that could play guard or center. IMO RB and CB are the two position rookies can come in and play well their first year so would be fine with CB in the 1st. Supposedly a deep draft for WR likely still get talent in 2nd round. -

Not that I'm upset about it, but they kind of screwed Beasley over by not releasing him prior to yesterday so he 'd have had an easier time latching on to a new team. But maybe they're still hoping for an 11th hour trade or they've tried to convince him to take a pay cut but he keeps saying no, so they said the hell with him. -
30% Once they decided to keep T Johnson in pretty much every play, Klein went down to less than 5% other than mop up duty. Agree though we don't need him Yes but it's fully guaranteed so unless they can trade him, they are on the hook for that amount. They could extends him to lower the cap hit, but if that happens then they are still committed to him and Edmunds, 2 LBs on relatively new contracts and the only ones that play when healthy so why do we need another? Agree with other posts, likely can see them drafting another.

Rumor- Harrison Phillips not coming back
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm guessing Bills made him an offer, he went out to see what he could get and was much higher than what Bills were offering so he took it. If it were close to Bills offer, maybe he'd have resigned. Likely too he assumed he'd get much more, hence in his mind he wasn't coming back. And apparently he was right about his value. -

There's a response about 10 to 12 posts above (page 22) that explains it pretty clearly and sounds pretty logical overall. -

OK so nothing up front other than maybe the agents share of signing bonus, then after that paid commission on game check basis just as player is. And the 10% number is much lower than I thought, only 3% -
2022 Free Agency - Around the NFL Thread
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was reading how when these contracts are announced they always list the max amount player can get to make the agent look good even though player may not ever see a good chunk of it. Got me wondering then, how do agent commissions work. I've always heard the commission is 10% and the agent takes it from the signing bonus, partly why the agent goes for a big signing bonus to make sure there's enough money so he gets paid and leave some pocket change for the player. So lets say it's announced as a 3 year, $20 mil contract. Details are $7 mil signing bonus and salaries of $4, $4, & $ 5 mil per year. So assuming the 10% number is correct, does the agent then pocket $2 mil right away. But what if the player gets cut after the 1st year so all the player ever saw was $11 mil. Does the agent give the player back money, treat it as a credit for commission on next contract, or does the player just lose out? Anybody have an answer? Do we have any agents on TBD? -
DT DaQuan Jones to Buffalo, $3.58M cap this year

Harrison Phillips to Vikings, 3 year 19.5 million
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
What hurt Phillips staying in Buffalo was Star sitting out a year. If Star hadn't sat, could easily dump him this year for next to nothing and then sign Phillips to replace him. But once Star sat out, it backed his contract up a year to the point, too expensive to cut him, but not worth the money he's being paid and then couldn't afford another big $$ contract for the same position. -

OK so then from now on will be in May. Add into that seems like Draft is drifting backwards every year too. Pretty soon schedule will be announced on 4th of July! -

Ryan Bates will be tendered by Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
From what I've read many think the Bills plan to give him a 2 to 3 year contract, this just buys some time. So if he did get an offer, bills could match and then still extend. I'd assume you could match OR exceed??
