My interpretation of "Not far off" leads me to Gronk since he played with Gilmore in NE. I think the Bills will spend more money in free agency than Beane made it seem back in January, but to me Jackson and Jones may just be too large amount of money to complete the deal.

Bills don’t need a number 2 receiver
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BuffBills51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree, but a very good slot guy I'd assume they'd be looking for, easier said than done with limited $$. But do agree with you they don't need a #2. Another response posted listed the number of missing targets that needs to be replaced, believe it was around 125. Add a good slot replacement, that number is reduced by around 70 so now need another 50. Get a good 2nd TE or another WR and you're back even. Also wanted to comment on the Berrios posts, isn't he also a return guy? Maybe he's viewed as the #4 WR and return man, fills two roles. Nothing too bad with only 500 yards as WR then if also returning. -
Feliciano cut [now according to Bills]

1 year prove it deal...OJ Howard?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
OK, did you really come up with this or are you taking what Joe B's article in yesterdays Athletic suggested? LOL Actually was a good all around take on which FA's to resign, who to draft and who to go after in FA. Went through a bunch of contract adjustments to make to free up money, who to cut, etc so the money all worked including who you'd then sign. Along with signing Howard he suggested; Fitz, Joe Mixon, Adam Humphries, Jeff Wilson, & Connor McDermott. And he suggested they resign Phillips, Hughes, Bates, and Kumerow and down the road Zimmer -
Rumor- Harrison Phillips not coming back

Agree on Bates, Zimmer being injured, likely can get him back for less than the tender guarantee, believe it's $2.5 mil? Sign him to vet min contract?? -
Spotrac spitballs C. Kirk & C. Williams to Bills

Got to remember the income tax only affects half their pay. The week they play in Buffalo, NY states taxes will be taken from that pay check. -
Rumor- Harrison Phillips not coming back
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with you to a point, not sure it's really take it or leave it in the case of someone like Phillips. In some cases it may be a final offer by the team. But with Phillips there likely is some back and forth, but could be they are so far apart, he (and the Bills) figures no way this will get done. Or on about March 14th we'll hear they resigned him. I think they need to draft a guy, but this team is in a win now mode so not so sure I want to depend too much on rookies particularly on the D line as takes some time to develop. IMO CB, RB, and some O-line rookies can come in and look very good. Other positions usually takes some time. -
Rumor- Harrison Phillips not coming back
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall
Likely that the Bills don't want to pay him what his agent says he's worth and will get as a FA. Is the agent correct, we'll find out in a couple weeks. Or the Bills due pay him what he wants or close to it, then he does sign. Maybe as others posted the Bills plan to sign another better FA or draft one high. Can't get out of Stars contract this year, so he's not needed that much or at least valued that much. -

RG3 scraps Washington exposé book

Can't help but think if this book was already written and ready to go to press, someone may have copies to, so still a fear for DS of it being leaked. -
Cole Beasley given permission to seek trade
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Sure, Beasley wants the trades, but will another team agree to it. It also means the other team is likely taking on a larger salary than if Beasley's a FA, so why would they? Also does Beasley have anything coming due from the Bills if he were cut tomorrow? Looks like if he's cut before March 20th, answer is NO?? -
Cole Beasley given permission to seek trade
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, but teams know if he doesn't get traded, the Bills will end up cutting him. So the only reason to make a trade would be you get hm exclusively if some team is worried he wouldn't sign with them. But when factoring in his contract, age, and knowing he'll be cut, will be surprised if a trade is made. -
Hows the field goal kicker(s) done there at his school? To me holding is just as important, infact maybe even more important than the punting part of the job. IMO there are more missed field goals every year than there are punts returned for TD's or even longer than 30 yard returns. With the Bills as prolific as their offense is, to me the holding part again trumps the punting part of the job. Admittedly for a college punter holding is likely a difficult thing to evaluate as he may have held for 3 different kickers, some of which may not have been very good. So was it him or the kicker?

Bills' traits players in later draft rounds - Troy Andersen
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Lothar's topic in The Stadium Wall
Seems like one of the things Beane goes after is future potential. Love him or hate him, Edmunds was drafted very young and the expectations were he could improve greatly. Last year they drafted two guys, Groot and Brown who didn't play the season prior in college. Oliver was drafted after his junior season. And the biggest of all Allen, a guy many predicted to flop, but was drafted on potential and having a large upside to him.. -

Todays Take on Generational Money Where is That Line ?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to T master's topic in Off the Wall
Exactly and these athletes, he mentions Harry are hanging out with these others who are also making $10 mil, it's hard not to some extent keep up with the Jones. Maybe once every couple weeks all the D lineman go out to dinner someplace and the bill is $5k and this weeks it's Harrys turn to pick up the tab. Doubt he's going to go live say on Grand Island either. -
Safer Punting Rules Coming??
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall
Corrected! If all 32 teams in the league agreed to place the same identical roster decisions as far as keeping or dressing ST "experts" what you're saying would work great. But as soon as one team ignores the agreement, they may steal a couple of games. BTW ask Green Bay how that worked out. Is a certain irony too that Bojo is their punter as most everyone here was pining for him. -

Just read this article that the NFL is considering changing rules to make punts safer, the article though doesn't mention anything specific as to what they plan to do or even consider. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/changes-could-be-coming-to-the-punt-in-the-nfl/ar-AAUpoj8?li=BBnbfcL

Question for you, why does grass grow in the summer? Answer because the ground gets warmer. Put heaters under the field, which I believe they already stated they plan to do to keep the field from freezing. Would the heaters keep it growing all year, no likely once we get to the bitter cold of January would stop growing, but by then you're down to last potential game or two anyway and would still be OK for a couple more weeks. What typically makes the grass look terrible every winter is once it gets buried by snow and gets no sunlight, it turns brown. Can recall winters with little snow, lawn barely turned color. Maybe they even plan to put artificial sunlamps in the overhang area to help it grow a bit longer. Think they have grounds keepers too that tend to know a little more than the typical homeowner does about how to keep their lawn looking best. And BTW when I lived in Rochester, I'd typically mow till Thanksgiving, Often had to let the 1st or even 2nd snow cover melt to get the final mowing in.
