DOES THIS WEBSITE GET PAID BY THE BUFFALO NEWS?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall
And the BN also typically has the most content on the Bills so it seemed natural to put their articles at the top. Likely too more 2BD forum viewers either live in the Buffalo area or totally outside the western NY area so it probably is the most read publication that carries Bills news. As a non Western NY resident anymore, I'm glad the BN articles are at the top. -
And also lost 4 times as many too. But that's what happens when you coached for 24 years and have the same winning percentage. The numbers of wins and losses will be bigger. I'll grant you Reid has certainly done much more in 24 years, I also recall many people talking about how Reid can never win the big one. Today now has a chance at #2. My main point when looking at the names on that list other than Belichick and I'll throw in Reid too, the rest haven't won any better over their careers than McD has other than they have won one SB.

Is he really a much better of a passer than Goff? Lions did OK at QB. Certainly Jackson's running abilities add alot, but can he stay healthy because if it? Will they or do fans there realize, he's great when healthy, but can't stay that way and has struggled at times. The biggest problem with trading him IMO is the overall lack of great franchise type QB's available every year to draft. A better chance they pick one that doesn't work out than does. Then in 4 years will be looking for another one. But don't think the answer is handing Jackson $250 mil all guaranteed either.

What's this a list of coaches with worst records than McDermott?? I assume that is what this list is as if you looked it up you'd find that every name on the list has a worse record than McD with the exception of Belichick and technically Reid. But Reid has a winning percentage of .641, McD is .639 which is an overall difference of one win more liketime. With the exception of Shanahan, they've all won one SB and some have better playoff records, but if you take the one year away that they won the SB as they went at least 3-0, their overall playoff isn't any better either. This is a pretty impressive list of names, but none of which have done any better than McD except Belichick overall except they won one SB each. I do think winning the SB is a bit of luck involved, the biggest is avoid large number of injuries, timing i.e. peaking at the right time, matchups, Bills likely would have had a better shot at beating KC than Bengals, and just a bit of luck overall. As to the original point of this thread, I think one of the issues that magnifies everything is the internet. Imagine what this board would have been like 30 years ago when the Bills lost 4 in a row if everyone had easy access to the internet and there were as many sites to go to for data and information as there is today. People would have been rioting in the streets. Don't forget too that the word fans is short for fanatics which is what we all are. Anyone who posts on message boards 12 months of the year, 7 of which there aren't even any games going on is a fanatic. So as fanatics we're not the most rational thinkers as it's emotional. We likely are more emotional than many of the players are as to them it's a job, many of which weren't even o nthe team last year and many won't be here again next season. Most here rip the media that covers the team, they don't know anything, they're wrong, if they rip a Bills player they are scorned, etc. But one thing they are for the most part is unbiased. When you read many of their articles, they are much more rational takes on things overall than many posters here.

What kind of shocked me was that Darrell Revis has been retired for 5 years. Seems like he was just playing yesterday. When I saw Joe Klecko walk out, I thought wow he doesn't look like he's all there. Then I remembered what he looked like in his playing days and realized it he hasn't changed a bit. 9 people inducted! For a long time I've felt it's too easy to make the football HOF and too hard to make the baseball HOF.

He helped them get over 800 yards and 46 catches. So you think taking that away would have made the team better? Is he helping them as much as Diggs or as much as was expected, no, but he is helping. Now you're down two WR's with limited money to spend Good luck getting better. I've got no problem replacing him as the #2, but cutting him is not making the team better.

Top 10 Greatest Coaches That Never Won a Super Bowl
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall
Except the odds of that happening are very low. There are many more failures than successes with either brand new coaches, or retreads. -
So then why trade a guy on a cheap contract who won't give you much in return? Who are you going to replace him with that will still give you 48 catches and 836 yards for similar money? Or even a little higher money. Replacing him still isn't going to solve the Bills problem as right now they need a 3rd WR. Now you're getting rid of their #2. Maybe he should be a #3, but either way, you've now opened up another roster spot and saved very little if any money in doing so.

Right now I see many people posting on various threads on the message board. How can that be? I can't believe people have time to post right now and not riveted to the TV watching the Pro Bowl!!
-
But I've heard of him!

So you're getting the YTTV thru wireless? And no lag or stuttering?? I wonder if one of these days the ESPN's, YES, NESN, etc will off a full stand along version to pay for without needing a cable or streaming platform also? I'm assuming there is something contractual that prevents that, else many would be offering it. There's ESPN+ but that's not exactly the same.

Hasn't happened past few years as schedule didn't allow it, but for awhile it was just lucking out for a few years that two SB teams played each other the following season. So if Chiefs win would think it would be rematch with Eagles. 2nd choices Bengals If Eagles win then either 49er's or Bills

Aaron Rodgers to the Jets for 2 first round picks?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Lost's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's cause he's actually a very good QB. Will be interesting to see what happens in Philly when he gets new big contract. That's kind of using flawed logic though as before this latest influx of very good to great new young QB's, there weren't nearly that many around. So odds were heavily in your favor of supporting this argument. -
Dan Orlovsky All-Time QB list
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall
They played in a different era so hard to compare. What would be interesting to compare QB against entire league averages. My gut tells me Marino would be further above average than Rodgers. He was great in a non passing time frame. Montana was fabulous in SB's. Other times good, but not that amazing. No way Mahomes should be on the list at this point in career. -
Joe Danna named Bills safety coach
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
The guy they fired Salgado was only named safety coach of Bills last year. Sometimes I think these firings are the result of someone else becoming available. They wanted this guy last season, but couldn't get him, now he was available so simple solution is fire the one we have?? -
Looking at our options to rebuild the o-line in 2023
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Think one new starter on the inside to replace Stafford, agree not giving up on Brown who's on a cheap contract and missed entire past off season. But could see them bringing in mid tier tackle to step in if Brown doesn't do better. Can see them drafting an interior lineman to start in 2024 unless they decide to extend Morse (yesterdays Athletic suggested that) If Morse retires then add one more player needed this year, but can see one being a rookie and one a vet. The one wild card would be if they decided to move Dawkins inside to guard. I've read many posts suggesting the Bills draft 3 or 4 lineman. IMO that's a total waste as will either result in pretty much all backups being rookies or cutting draft picks, neither which is a good idea. To me doesn't make sense to draft more than two as draft picks need to have a "landing spot" on roster. -
Titans are switching their field from grass to turf
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall
Get with the program. We've moved on from Edmunds, now it's Oliver. -
The long term solution for most teams who have an established #1 is sign a reasonable priced experienced QB who's no longer getting any contract offers to be starter. Bills should follow suit. I read one lime the backup QB typically gets about a half dozen snaps with the starting offense each week. So to me drafting a QB for backup makes little sense as he basically will never have got much of any experience. For those you sign a vet. Teams that don't have an entrenched starter, it's different, then a rookie backup is OK when not 100% sold on starter.

Ryan Fitzpatrick better option for QB coach
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
As many have already stated he may not want to put in the time requirement to be a coach. But the second and maybe more important point is Webb has shown enthusiasm in coaching. While I agree with everything you state about Fitz, it doesn't automatically translate into being a good teacher as ultimately that's what coaching is all about. I've seen many people over the years be really good at something, but that doesn't mean they have the ability to explain it in a way that others will understand. -
If you take Brady out, the other five won a total of seven SB, not that impressive considering how talented those 5 were. Mahommes is kind of an outlier in there too as hasn't been around enough to see what happens long term with team. So do agree with the OP is hard to field and maintain a top team when the QB makes a disproportionate share of total salary cap. Put it another way, lets assume Bills won SB next season, after that Allen plays another ten years and they never win again. They win division most years, maybe get to 2nd round of playoffs, one, maybe two times made conf championship. Would you be happy, and content and not question need for a coaching change. That's kind of what Ben Ro, Manning, Rodgers, and Brees did. It was always wait till next year, were always good, but never able to win it all again. Maybe a better idea than a separate salary cap would be a bonus amount of money not counted towards cap and you get to use it every X amount of years. All the money can be given to one player or split up between a couple of players if team doesn't have a true franchise QB. Likely most of time money would go to QB, but not always. Money comes out of owners pocket, can choose to spend it or not spend it, but gives a team a better chance of keeping core together.
