  1. Once Belichick saw this video he said he had to have him on his staff for his calm demeanor
  2. And SF still has a big question at QB so who knows. 2 years straight to conf championship game and came up short Not sure I'd go that far, but overall agree we don't use the running game enough. It's more an after thought.
  3. They really needed more help at end than tackle and Jones was having a good year clogging up the runs. Phillips and Settle were decent backups too so probably not! Granted would have helped last week with Jones out and Phillips playing with one arm, but didn't know that was going to happen either. Don't think Phillips was hurt back in November yet??
  4. The selling tickets to Atlanta didn't help any either even though the Bengals were doing the same. But their ticket sales didn't get all the press that the Bills got for doing it. A good reason for that is the Bills Mafia and how they follow the team far and near so was played up in press as a cool story. But was't cool to the Bengals and didn't do the B ills any favor fro ma motivational point.
  5. Kind of surprised no one referenced today's BN which had an article on this very subject. Or maybe that was what motivated OP to start thread?? https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/with-better-protection-for-josh-allen-a-top-priority-bills-need-spencer-brown-to-elevate/article_c975a466-9f45-11ed-861b-470ba25bdc5a.html I have hopes when you factor in he had no off-season, training camp, or pre-season, then add in a new line coach who I'm sure had different techniques to learn plus a different player at RG than he had in 2021 as Bates moved over. Having Brown and Bates, two relatively inexperienced players next to each other likely didn't help any either. Then he got hurt in week 6 and didn't make it back to week 10, likely still not at 100%. He attended a smaller college/conference and also didn't play in 2020 due to Covid shutting down program so add all this in, he's still a work in progress. He's a cheap contract so he's going anywhere. Do you want to trust him to improve in 2023 or bring in a mid level vet to be backup or take over if no improvement. Also think better play along rest of line will make Brown look better on it's own. I think in general the Bills tend to draft a number of players who have a potential large upside, but will take a while to get there. Edmunds, Knox, Allen are a couple of names that come to mind. That was easier to deal with when team wasn't in a win now mode as they are today.
  6. Would like either him or JU Ju Smith, but think both may be out of our price range and may be better going with 1st round rookie. Look to pick up a guard for sure. Oh and Lamar Jackson for sure.
  7. It's interesting that the Bills were the pre-season favorite to win the SB. It's rare that a team that's never even made the SB is the pre-season favorite the following season. KC had been the fav in the AFC the past couple of seasons, but not the favorite the year they won it, think NE was. In the NFC last couple of years Tampa and Rams were favorites again, teams that have at least been there if not won it all. Not that it's an excuse but it may have been that caused them to be a bit over confident and felt they could just show up and win and slowed down any creativeness particularly on offense.
  8. Yeah my take too was more like BuffaloBaumer. The 13 seconds game left me numb and lost. This one could was over early. Don't have a good "wait till next year" feeling either like I did a year ago.
  9. Didn't see this posted elsewhere. In summary his take is: The Bills were too aggressive on offense and too conservative on defense! He specifically traces the point when things changed to the 2nd half of the Packers game. While he doesn't state what changed at that exact point, my own eyeball test and memory tends to agree 100% with that point in time. https://thebuffalofanatics.com/where-did-the-buffalo-bills-go-wrong-this-season-where-to-go-from-here/ Got me thinking a bit more about the defense and their bend but don't break philosophy. That probably worked well 20 years ago with the shortage of great QB play and to a lesser degree WR's too so teams would make enough mistakes that were easily stopped over the length of the game. But now too many great QB's can carve up the openings and just march down the field consistently and it ends up with death by 1000 paper cuts as they say.
  10. The next Duke Williams!
  11. 4 of the 5 the same, but agree with you overall. I suppose the issue could be that Kromer's style didn't align with the players on the Bills strengths??
  12. Yeah I'd rather see Jets get Rodgers as would help them for a year or two, but that's about it, then would be starting over. Dak is young enough and good enough to be there for awhile.
  13. I didn't vote as think the right response was somewhere between the 1st and 3rd choice. One of the things the Bills have been pretty consistent over the years is drafting players on potential down the road. Knox, Edmunds, Brown, Groot, likely some others I'm forgetting. Knox was in college offense that had great WR so hardly used TE, Edmunds very young and still growing, Brown and Groot both sat out final college season because of Covid. Not saying right or wrong with this approach, but just what IMO I've seen them do. It's good if down the road the guy does blossom into star, but the downside on a team ready to win now it hurts as taking up roster spots with little high level playing time in the early years. Plus with a strong team around them, it's hard for them to get playing time.
  14. OK yeah guess that could explain it. While Bengals just marched down the field. LOL
  15. But you can't cut him. The only option is to trade him and the team trading has to be willing to either pay him $10 mil in 2023 or work out long term deal. And if I'm Oliver I wouldn't take anything that's not going to give me more money long term and still be good deal for 2023 too. Otherwise I can just play for the $10 mil guaranteed.
  16. Looking at these two stats seem out of alignment. I'd have thought with only an 8 minute difference in TOP wouldn't hve yielded such a difference in number of drives?? Only eight Bills offensive possessions Time of Possession: Bengals' 33:54 to Bills' 26:06
  17. When will the SB be held, Easter Sunday? If only still playing one game per week a double elimination takes much longer. Also gives many teams a number of byes once past 1st round. It works well in baseball as the team who lost often plays a doubleheader game to get back to winners bracket and play on.
  18. After the Jets game, the Bills won 8 straight. But they could have just as easily lost all 8. For a team with SB dreams, they should have been able to have won at least some weeks easily. It's not just the last game. So while I agree with you the team did win 13 games, it's also a bit suspect as to how they won them all and would be worried that they could repeat that without more bigger changes. Think the truth is somewhere in between.
  19. Can I be your assistant? or assistant to assistant?
  20. If that were to happen I'd be more in favor of the Bills making more drastic moves, Let Edmunds and Poyer walk, trade Diggs and Oliver, other moves? and gain a bunch of draft picks?? Take a step back, let AFC East blow up for two years, then come back with rebuilt younger cap friendlier team. I think when paying a QB of what Allen is getting, you're forced to do these mini rebuilds every few years so maybe this would be a good point to take one of them.
  21. True, but still may be hard to get a team to take on $10 mil. Teh question then is how to replace him and what are you doing with Edmunds? If also don't sign Edmunds, and replace with rookies team is likely to take a significant step back short term like 2023 into 2024. Then start to ask is it better to blow things up bigger and reset things?
  22. So you don't think Oliver is worth $10mil?? If so why would some other team take on that contract? Either the Bills or another team are on the hook for the $10 mil, unless he's given a long term deal that would have to make sense for him to agree to. Else he'd decline play out his option and then team stuck with $10 mil salary.
  23. Unless Doyle is ready to take a big jump which no one has any ideas has hardly played, think you need better depth on the OL that you list. Need at least one better player there than you have in case on injury. Not even sure you have any back up center there?
  24. OK don't disagree with any of what you're saying, bu this thread was started to say Peyton isn't all that great of a choice which I agree with. You want to make changes, find someone better than Peyton is my argument. There's also a lot of these hot offensive minds who they made head coaches who are now on the unemployment line too, great as a coordinator, but failed as a HC. A better option may be to keep McD as head coach, but get one of these offensive wizes to be the OC. I also think your argument about Marino stems quite a bit on luck more than an inferior team, being at the right place at the right time avoiding injuries, getting the right match up in playoffs and all of a sudden you won the SB. Meanwhile a deserving team never gets a crack at it. Did Marino have an inferior team or just at the wrong place at the wrong time? Excluding the one year the Bills went to the SB as the wild card, I think they won the division 6 out of 7 years straight so Marino was in a dog fight every year right in the prime of his career. Was it really an inferior team or were they both great teams but just that the Bills were a little better? Add to that when you have a generational talent who is paid top $$ in today's NFL it's hard to get a strong enough team around him. Manning, Rodgers, Brees all of them only won one SB (Elway twice) as is hard to build that team around them. The team will win every year and potentially be in the running to win it all, but only one time they were at the right place at the right time and won it all. How did Brady manage to win them all, who knows, maybe it was all on cheating?? Bengals also were helped a lot by being really terrible for a long time and having a number of top 10 draft picks, where the Bills were never quite that bad in the past 40 years.
  25. Yes it is hard to get as makes little sense. First comparing QB's has little to do with how good the coach is or isn't. I guess Brian Billick must be the greatest coach of all time as he turned Trent Dillfer into SB winning QB. So are you saying Miami didn't win any because Marino was no good or Shula was no good. How exactly did Marino become this loser? Was it his fault or coaching? Either one of them, you're wrong on as both were excellent. There was probably more questions on how good Allen would be coming out of college than Brees. Allen was doing pretty well under Daboll, so maybe Dorsey is turning him into mush, but not McD. OK so you can blame McD for hiring Dorsey but he was the consensus favorite for the job. He had very little if anything to do with Allen's development good or bad as he's a defensive coach. If you want to compare coaches, compare their record which are pretty much the same. You want a different coach and think McD isn't very good. OK can't argue with that, but don't try and show that Peyton is any better. What you could have said and would be true so far: McDermott is Peyton 2.0 That would be a fair assessment.
