All-22 Grades for Bills/Jets (The Athletic)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Think Groot may have somewhat hit the rookie wall squared. Not only is the NFL a longer season, but he also didn't even play last season. So could argue he's well rested, but not playing for two years, could be worn out and not playing last season amplifies it. Is encouraging to see him playing better against the run than pass as more often it's the opposite for rookies, they are better at the pass rush than run stopping. Was true even of Bruce Smith. Chicks love the long ball..... and sacks -
You think??? I don't know, he hasn't done much of anything here to prove he's worthwhile as hardly had chance to play. Think his best offer may be to a team with a questionable QB in place like another thread talked about going to Indy assuming they also have Wentz. Wentz is still the starter going into camp, but if he falters, have another somewhat legit option to go to

I wonder if the Bills would allow this? If the Giants were to hire either one as GM creates an opening in Buffalo and a reshuffling of the deck. Maybe then the one eho's still here gets a promotion instead so it became a lateral move. Possible the Bills give permission to interview the two with the understanding it's an either/or situation until the Bills have time to reevaluate??

My case for Trubisky to the Colts
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was looking at the draft order, excluding the Jags and Jets, the others all have various levels of need for a QB, but not exactly a stellar class. If I'm the Lions I may try and trade that pick to a team that hopefully won't be too good next year so they'd have 2 first rounders in 2023 which is supposed to be a better stronger class. Also gives Goff one more year to prove he could be the answer -
Congrats Mitch, Welcome Deacon Morse!

Maybe Rex Ryan's or Russ Brandon, Doug Whaleys', or Tryod Taylors old place. There's likely a long list of expensive vacant real estate available in the Orchard Park area. -
My case for Trubisky to the Colts
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
Makes sense in certain ways if the Colts decide to give Wentz one more year. You then aren't going to bring in a guy like Wilson, or Rodgers, but you want someone who some ability as the backup in case Wentz falters. You don't want his backup to be a Matt Barkley type. Based on what happened in Philly you also may not want to draft someone in the 1st round either as that is rumored to be some of the issues with Wentz in Philly. Plus Indy is drafting late enough and not a real strong QB class anyway. If they decide to move on from Wentz, then think they may look for someone better than Trubisky. I'm not so sure about the Trubisky and Daboll together rumors either. Think is Daboll gets a HC job, wouldn't want to tie my fate to Trubisky. -
Yeah they do, just ask the officials. Almost every play!

Recall watching a play, thought it was in Q3 but could be wrong where there was an incompletion thrown his way. At the time watching it on TV, felt his body language looked rather frustrating , like can't Allen throw me a pass I can catch. First time I saw a WR look frustrated by the throw in the past two seasons in Buffalo.

Bill Polian hired as consultant for Chicago Bears
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Manther's topic in The Stadium Wall
The way I heard it reported they hired him as a consultant in the coach GM search, not necessarily beyond that. Hopefully for the Bears he won't recommend his son. -
Don Maynard, Fred Biletnikoff, and Lance Alworth made up three pretty amazing WR in the old AFL. Actually they didn't call them WR back then, they were either split ends or flankers. Those names did tend to sound a bit sexier than WR. Not sure what prompted the change??

Bills fans complaining about coaching...
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sounds like you're complaining! -
Agree with most of what you said. I'll add though WRT #5. Particularly yesterday, almost constantly running on 1st down really is dump. Let Allen throw, just a short 5 to 6 yard pass so now we have 2md and 4. Then can easily run or pass and keeps the defense on it's toes. The problem with that strategy is Allen rather than taking the 5 to 6 yard pass will tend to look for the 15 yard pass and often not complete, so now we have 2nd and 10 instead. I'll blame Allen there for not taking the check downs enough this year. Well actually last season, he didn't have to take them as the 15 yarders were working at a very high rate. And yes am rather surprised at #4

I will say this in the middle of the 3rd quarter, I went to Spotrac to see if the Jets punter would be a free agent at year end, 2 years remaining. But then watched the Jets punter in Q4 and he didn't look that much better than Haack. So maybe conditions were much worse than most realize. Doubt they'd cut him as no way are you going to switch holders going into the playoffs. Maybe they sign someone and keep Haack just for holding and let the other guy punt. But that means petting someone at another position go. I do think the Bills will draft a punter, the cap him for Haack is pretty small all things considered. Thought the kid from Clemson looked pretty good

To be fair I'd think they should make the 4-5 game in one of the conferences the Monday night game. Assume everything goes chalk the 4-5 winner then plays the 1 seed the following week and they have the shortest prep time OK that's what they did do NFC 4-5 is Monday

If the Bills re-sign Edmunds, they're stupid.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah but what do all these people know compared to the experts here at TBD! Yes it's a fan forum, but many of the "Experts" here seem to feel it's a coaches forum and think they know more and start threads titled just like this one "If the Bills re-sign Edmunds, they're stupid" like they know more. -
Posted this elsewhere but think Allen needs to learn to take something off the fastball. It may be OK in September an October, but with a wet, cold, hard ball coupled with a receivers wet cold hands just doesn't work well. There were a number of dripped passes too. But hard to say if Allen did take something off on some of those passes, would he have been able to get the ball to where it needed to get to?

That's not going to happen mainly because you don't want to mess with Bass WRT holder. Unless they go as far as signing a punter, but keeping Haack just for holding. I will say this in the middle of the 3rd quarter, I went to Spotrac to see if the Jets punter would be a free agent at year end, 2 years remaining. When does the Wildcard games schedule come out?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall
That would be nice, a west coast team at 1:00 eastern time. My guess is they give the Chargers a bit of a break, may be the 4:30 game on Saturday. -

Hmmm only 5 WR active, but also all 5 RB's active. Guess they are planning to run today. -

Fantasy still going?? Or is this one of these weekly draft leagues? -
Bills have underperformed this year by 2+ wins
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah but the Bengals shouldn't have lost to the Bears and Jets and the Titans shouldn't have lost to Jets (hmmm Jets won only 4 games, but beat Titans and Bengals) and Texans so give them each two more wins too then. That puts Bengals back at 12 wind and Titans at 13 -
Agree on Harrison, Neil, and Wallace being resigned. But I do also think there's a good chance some of these will be resigned such as Boettger, Obada, Zimmer, and McKenzie. Plus if Trubisky signs elsewhere, they may still try to bring in someone of equal ability and contract. Also think there's a good chance Hughes comes back for one more year at a much reduced contract. In addition can see them signing one top level interior lineman and maybe also a lower level backup lineman, plus some LB depth. Bottom line doubt the haul of comp picks will be as anywhere near as big as you'd imagine.

Jerry Hughes’ Last Regular Season Home Game?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can see this happening. The Bills drafted 3 DE early the past two seasons, so they are coming back. Think they'd like to resign Obada, could see a 5th DE signed in Hughes at a much lower contract number. McD likes the idea of a vet presence, considering the rest of their D-line are all pretty young. could see him coming back for one more season in this role before turning the keys over to likely Oliver.
